Hannibal Lecter
The Riddler
still so insane to me that the term “murder husbands” was used in canon. freddie lounds was just straight up calling them gay in the newspaper.
hannibal cradles will in the same way judas cradles jesus and that’s something i don’t think i’ll recover from.
for all the biblical references hannibal makes, talking of god and death, he neglects to mention the devotion of judas to jesus.
never forget that hannibal made sure that the soup wasn’t going to burn will’s mouth before feeding it to him, you know the soup he seasoned specifically so he’ll taste good after sawing his head open and eating him? and they say romance is dead
“Hannibal has more power in the relationship then will”
Do you think either Hannibal or Will would try to use 'gen z terms' and it makes Abigail upset that she has to live with these CLOWNS
Hannibal (2013-2015)
2x10 - “Naka-Choko”
Hannibal (2013-2015)
1x13 - “Savoureux”
What do we think
They’re the same picture….
Will’s obsession with Hannibal felt like an infection spreading while Hannibal’s obsession with Will felt like a fire igniting a beautiful display of prayer candles.
Will had no desire to know Hannibal. “Let’s just keep it professional,” “I don’t find you that interesting,” The man is honest and clear about this. He has nothing but distain and contempt for the idea that some psychiatrist is obligated to stay beside him, analyzing him. He is not as charming to Will as Will feels he is to everyone around him, almost angering him.
But then he needs Hannibal. Only Hannibal understands his mind, whether that happens to be a positive or a negative feeling. That feeling gets pushed further and further, but somewhere along that even the pain of his desire becomes a dependency for Will. More and more of Will Graham becomes obsessed with Hannibal Lecter.
Hannibal Lecter could not deny himself Will Graham. There was an immediate pull, for him. Someone who pushed him away so harshly becoming someone who embraces their own darkness? He could never have had anything more fulfilling.
While Will wanted to contain his obsession, cut it out, avoid it or deny complete submission to the infection of Hannibal, his submission was inevitable. Hannibal felt a burning need to see and be seen by Will. It was beautiful, what they had, and nothing could matter more to him than what he had.
Masculinity and femininity should’ve been more tactfully utilized in Hannibal. But while I feel like there could’ve been many more examples of plot relevant gendered ideas, I do really like how these concepts exist currently.
We see Hannibal as someone who is truly unafraid to embody both masculinity and femininity; He cooks, exhibits traits of perfectionism and cares deeply about appearances. (All things that can be seen as feminine or traditionally feminine.)
We see Will start as someone who is heavily one to present, which feels like a feminine idea, but he still remains nearly a stereotype of masculinity. He likes fishing, he doesn’t care about his appearance as much. He likes the outdoors, he drinks whisky, he’s emotionally distant. (All things that can be seen as masculine, and if not masculine, the antithesis of feminine.)
Over time, Will begins to understand himself a bit better. I believe this comes with a healthy dose of dropping some of these masks. He is masculine, he is a masculine person who enjoys masculine things, but it becomes less performative as he
also, hannibal uses his “feminine” traits as a way to manipulate people. i don’t think he does anything unless it benefits him at the end. there is a general habit of society that makes people trust those who have traditionally speaking, feminine hobbies.
and he was a psychiatrist. which meant he probably knows more about you than you do. it makes one trust his judgment, in a way.
think about it, would you—someone who holds a certain position in law enforcement, and have probably have many people who would benefit from you gone—wouldn’t you be a little wary of what you’re consuming? and yet, jack crawford was ready to dine with him, without much hesitation.
I like this addition a lot, you could not be more right. Because his “femininity” disarms people. His personality is warm and intuitive, traits that make him easy to trust.
While he has very self serving motivations, that makes it incredibly easy for him to make it seem as though his motivations align with anyone at all. Will, Jack, Alana, Abigail. The people around him have been largely expendable his entire life, making the fact that he can deduce their feelings, desires and thought processes even more beneficial.
I also want to bring observation to the fact that he utilizes his “masculinity” in contrast to these “feminine“ hobbies in a way that lacks the traditional “red flags” of masculinity. Psychiatry causes him to be nonjudgmental. His calm demeanor puts people at ease. His soft spoken and monotone voice is able to take away the edge someone who has the preconceived fear of men as much as he can. He is incredibly humble when convenient, and incredibly observant. And he is a genuinely kind, gentle and seemingly generous and supportive person.
He manipulates further even than he needs to in order to fulfill his own motivations. To him, satisfaction comes from both his goal and ability to reach his goal and to not be stopped.

Hannibal has a rolladex of names for people with Trump bumper stickers, people who sell ai art, people who express antivaxx beliefs and lifted truck drivers who have LEDS
sometimes i’ll be watching hannibal and think abt how often we see hannibal just in his house in a three piece suit. he’s not going anywhere or doing anything he’s simply eating or just doing small tasks but is fully in a suit. i hate him.
God forbid a man wants to feel pretty.
