“It is always a pleasure to be in your presence, Wenyuan.”
@hao-shuiyin liked this!
“I’ve always been curious about something, Lady Hao.” Since Guan Yu was away on private business, this led Zhou Cang to spend some quality time with his wife Shuiyin. Whether it be about Guan Yu, their children, or pretty much anything else, he enjoyed these slow, quiet moments- and that was quite rare on his part.
“How did you and Master Guan Yu meet? I don’t think in all the time I’ve knew you and him, I’ve never asked.”
It was a sunny, lightly breezy day; a perfect day to have a little picnic. Shuiyin found the perfect spot to share lunch (which she had made for herself and her companion), on top of a hill and underneath a peach tree. The hill she picked had the most beautiful view of the scenery; Shuiyin could see the lake, the trees, civilians passing by, and a view of Chengdu's castle.
Shuiyin was reaching into the food basket, pulling out a freshly made meatbun when Zhou Cang asked her how she and Guan Yu met. Where could she even start? She handed the meatbun to Zhou Cang and moved her hand to grab another meatbun for herself. "Hm... Well, I've known him long before he met Lord Liu Bei."
She took a bite out of her meatbun, and pondered how to start the story of how she met Guan Yu. "It was my sixteenth birthday, and it was the first birthday I spent alone. My parents had passed away weeks prior due to illness, and we couldn't afford a doctor to properly care for them while they were alive. I wandered away from my village because staying in an empty home was getting rather gloomy."
Another bite into the meatbun, Shuiyin gathered her thoughts to continue with the story. "I was on a bridge, staring into the water as I consumed some moon cakes. I remember shedding tears due to loneliness, and I saw myself reflected in the water. I thought I looked so ridiculous with my crying face that I thought about throwing my moon cake into the water and distorting my reflection."
A fond, nostalgic smile formed her face as she looked out to the scenery in front of her. "I made an attempt to throw my moon cake, but I felt a strong hand grip my arm before I could do it. I looked into my reflection and holding me back was... a not-so-long-bearded Yunchang." Shuiyin laughed, thinking about the big contrast between a much younger Guan Yu compared to the current Guan Yu everyone recognised. "We were strangers, but he... felt a concern towards me more than a regular stranger would. I felt he was very genuine, and... warm."
She turned her gaze to face Zhou Cang. “That evening, before I started crying, I made a birthday wish: I didn’t want to be alone. And fate brought me my Yunchang.”

“Nothing’s too much; the truth’s the truth, and it’s always good to tell it, no matter how harsh it may sound. He prides about being fast while I call him a cheater!”
“I see where you are coming from, but perhaps he is as fast as he is because he’s trained himself that way? He must’ve trained very hard. His speed is almost on par with Red Hare. I have never seen a human run as fast as he.”
“... What if he isn’t human?”

“I think a date is overdue, wouldn’t you say?
boldxvirtue:
“With all due respect, my lady, and I have to say this in the most blunt way possible: he’s an asshole, plain and simple.”
“W-- That’s... that’s a bit much, don’t you think? He’s certainly a lot, but that?”
“Even if Zhou Cang liked someone like Yinping or any girl, I bet he’d get rejected in a second.”
“Well, I wouldn’t go that far. He has his certain charms!”
“I don’t think I feel comfortable about the idea of my daughter marrying... that one.”
kanudono:
“My lonely days are over…”
“-- and life is like a song.”
