“An uncomfortable truth” manhwa. To read or definitely to read?
U still doubt to read “An uncomfortable truth” or not, the answer is definitely yes. Regardless of what kind of books U prefer. If U like Hemingway and Dostoevsky (like me), U’ll love it. If U prefer Joanne Rowling and Steven King (like, lets be honest, most of U:), U’ll still find it fascinating.
Well, the rest can contain a kind of spoilers. Read at your own risk.
The beginning we can see even in Lezhin preview. A murder and the story told by the criminal. Keep this fact in mind every second U read the story. EVERYTHING we see is NOT a secret for the MC… Even when other charas try hard to hide facts from him. U need to understand it to imagine what exactly had he been through…
And. Always keep in mind it’s also a mystic to understand how complicated the plot and charas really are. Not just mystic, it’s Asian mystic. (If U know what it means…) Psycho and mystical sides are equally important and mixed into a tragedy.
When Yoseob begins to talk, a lot of time is spent to describe their school and domestic life. If U’re not attentive to small details, U can easily mistake this story for the ordinary “teenage drama” about jealousy and “brother complex”. Be sure it’s not this easy! It’s not a teen drama. It’s a tragedy of post-traumatic syndrome, unspeakable loyalty and confrontation with primitive, harmful society. Have some patience and don’t judge anyone too fast. Motives of charas are described well and deep.
If U read thoughtfully U’ll see several important confrontations:
1). Between fake rules of society and real care of Yoseob towards his hyung. His way of care and protect is not smth ordinary (selfish and coward) people can accept. But it’s the only thing that really works. And the only thing that his brother really needs deep inside.
2). Between true feelings and normatives. Jaeha feels guilty for his attachment towards Yoseob because ALL people around insist it’s wrong. But in fact they are against only because it’s creepy and uncomfortable for THEM. They don’t care about Jaeha. They care only about their own asses.
3).Between real victims and “drama queens”. We have two couples in the center of the story. Yoseob and Jaeha are both child abuse survivors. Both suffer from PTS. And they don’t talk much about it or use it as an excuse.(Jaeha always blames himself.)
Yura and Taeoh both pretend to have traumatic past. But! Let’s not mess up with terminology. Things can be upsetting, offensive or annoying. But it’s not enough to leave a psychic trauma. These two talk a lot about their “suffering” and always use it to defend themselves when they do disgusting things. Actually it was Taeoh who is responsible for all the tragedy that happened later. And his excuse was an imaginary conflict with his older brother.
It’s also interesting and precious that drama between Jaeha and Yoseob isn’t based on conflict between them. Absolutely opposite. They truly love each other and both fight mystical obstacles as well as “real life” problems. Yoseob is tormented by consequences of his horrible childhood. Jaeha is locked in a mirroring maze of social norms. (Read carefully and U’ll see I mentioned mirroring maze for reason;) They have no chance to get help (even if people around promise it…) or to live happily ever after. But still their love is so strong that still reaches each other without words, simply through touches.
And here I want to warn both BL fans and haters. I know U both always wait for sexual/romantic parts. First ones - to fangirl/boy, second ones - to whine in disgust. Calm down and read. Their love is beyond sexual or romantic expressions.
I’d like to write much more and analyze every episode. But it will mean spoilers…
So let me say the most important thing - it’s a true literature. I read a lot. And can compare. Seriously. This work is on the same level with Dostoevsky, Moem, Kafka and Akutagawa Ryunosuke. It’s a must-read if U’re crazy (just like me) about Nobel Prize in literature. If U’re more into mangas and manhwas, well, if U love “Moritat” and “At the end of the road”, read it. If U loved first season of “Killing Stalking” - read it. If U was into “Tokyo Ghoul”, “Another” and “Shinsekai Yori” - absolutely read it! Even if U’re into “Kimi ni todoke” but not afraid of tragedy, read it. And… If U have never read manhwa before, read it. It’s a good start with only one minus - U’ll have very high standards after it…

Upd: It’s finished. And I swear it’s the saddest but one of the most beautiful books (not only manhwas but books in general) I’ve ever read…
P.s: Don’t forget to read only legally!!!!
