His feet are dragging down the hallway, his suitcase dragged behind them. His face is tense, eyes red from sorrow and exhaustion. He almost slumps against the door as he slides the key in to unlock it. Luke breathes a sigh of relief as the warmth of his home, your home, floods over him the moment he steps in the door.
You always kept the house like a sauna, since you were always cold in any weather.
He locks the door behind him again, still on edge after the last case. He always came home on edge. He turns around, ready to drop asleep on the floor itself, when he hears you softly snoring. He rubs his eyes and wanders a little further into the apartment, where he finds you, asleep on the couch.
He sighs, a soft smile overtaking him despite the events of the past 48 hours. He shakes his head a little at your position.
You were always a wild sleeper - falling asleep in the oddest positions. Right now, your legs were curled up, knees facing the couch. Your torso was twisted over itself, your chest facing up to the ceiling. Your face was turned away from the couch, one arm slung up over your head and the other crumpled under the pillow. From the position of your elbow, Luke could tell you had been propped up on it, trying to stay awake.
He rolled his suitcase into the bedroom before returning for you. This was a ritual for his late returns home. You would always attempt to stay awake to greet him home, but fell asleep the second the clock passed 12. And no matter how exhausted he was, or how bad his case had been, he would carry you back to bed. You and he had devised a little game - if he could put you in bed and then fall asleep next to you without waking you up, he won. If you woke up in the middle, you won.
Although the sleep deprivation really put a damper on your win.
