Here is the link to my final portfolio. I actually really like how my portfolio ended up. I think that I could've added some more floral design- maybe on all of the pages rather then just my Introduction page. I had a hard time with the page layout when I was exporting the document, but was able to fix it by resizing the format. enjoy!
Here is my poster final and some of my thumbnail sketches and a work-in-progress from about a week ago. From the start, I knew that I wanted to have a witch emerging from the mysterious forest, but I actually changed up my poster quite a bit before coming to this final poster. Mainly, I spent the most time trying to figure out how to blend the witch into the background and look like she’s actually in the picture. I mainly used the blur tool to help blend in her hand to the background and dull out the edges from her edit. For this poster the only research I did was to find the trees image and I just looked up inspiration from “The Haunting” on Pinterest. Overall, I would maybe make the title pop out more and maybe make her blend in better by putting the trees in front of her but overall, I am happy with how my poster turned out and it definitely gives the hopeless mysterious horror vibe I was going for.
Hello! Here is my final poster for my movie “Into Shadow’s Peak” on Jan 1st. I had a lot of fun editing this poster in photoshop. I edited a picture of my sister dressed up as a witch, but ended up blending her in a lot to make it look less fictional. I had a bit of trouble editing her in so that it did not look super tacky, and I also had trouble finding the creative commons at the end because the initial source I pulled the picture from was not reputable. I think overall it turned out as expected but I am seeing small details that I could have worked on already like blending and using the stroke tool more to emphasize the letters.
Week 14- Poster work in Progress.
So far, I have all of the major elements that I wanted to incorporate in the poster. I also wanted to find out how to somehow make the witches’ fingers look longer by stretching them out some. I still need to add some edits to the words and change the font at the bottom to make the credits appear more exciting. One problem that I encountered was that the picture I took of my sister dressed as a witch was not scary compared to the background picture I used. I tried to fix this by distorting the image placed so that it looks like the fog is covering her, but it messed with the outline I had so her outline is not as crisp as I would like it to be.
Here is my work-in-progress. I have some work to do with putting in the credits and also tweaking the witch a little bit more to fix some of the lighting issues. I used a layer mask and made her somewhat translucent to add depth to it and make it look less like a cartoon. At the moment, I am debating moving my title up to fit the credits at the bottom, or if I should just make my credits smaller to fit the space.
Here is some thumbnail sketches so far from my movie poster idea. I am doing a horror themed poster with a witch coming out from the forest. I am going to combine a picture I took of my sister dressed up as a witch into the foreground of a picture I have of an enchanted forest, so i will be working a lot with the blend tool. I decided to put my title in front of the witch to pull attention towards it, and because I will be stretching out the picture of the forest to match the poster outline, I also decided to put the credits down under the title where that blending will help in order to take away from the space. I got the ideas for the trees and forest from horror classics like the haunting.
POSTER LOGOTYPE: Here is my logotype so far, still needs some tinkering but I found a font I liked and then used the curvature tool to add points, and bring them down to give a horror-y look. I got ideas for this style from movies title fonts like the Haunting, and American Horror Story (series).
Here is my ideas so far on what I want to do with my movie poster. I am going to place an image of a witch coming out of the forest, known as Shadow’s Peak. It is going to be a horror plot-twist that scrunches your forehead wondering what is going to happen next. One reason why I am interested in a horror poster is because I appreciate working with dark, defined lines.
Here are my ideas for my movie poster project. I like horror movies, and have watched a lot recently (from Halloween), so I was inspired to do a horror poster. I gathered ideas from movies like the Haunting to get a cool tree idea, and then I also want some sort of character to be the focus point, so I was thinking of either a creature standing in the trees coming out of the fog, or a young scary woman. If i can successfully make it look like the character is coming out of the fog, then I am going to make the fog the monster in the movie and give it an intense and dangerous look.
Here is the final product of my mask (with correct format) along with the swatches and layers is used. It is a New Orleans- Mardi Gras- inspired mask. During this festival, people wear masks of all kinds in different shapes and colors and get to go out and meet new people: not confined to any identity of beauty, class, or looks while the mask is on. Personally, I enjoyed doing the black and white version more, because the designs and patterns stand out a bit more to me and look more prominent without the color. I struggled with the technical aspect in this project a little bit. I accidentally deleted my mask three weeks in, so decided to do a smaller mask so I had less surface area to cover. Another challenge I faced was transporting into a different format. InDesign kept making my computer shut down so I was never able to add a header. enjoy!

Here is my black and white (but no black and white) mask. I changed my idea to a Mardi Gras celebration inspired mask after my last full- face mask got deleted. On this one, i tried utilizing the blend and line tool to make a pattern that made my mask less bland in the back. Using the gradient tool helped me add dimension to my mask. It’s what I used on the top of the mask to try to portray that the mask was curved a little to fit someone’s face. enjoy
This is my mask so far, I got inspiration from a traditional celebration mask, but stuck to just the outline of the face to give it a mask shape. I am working in making it look less like a face- and more like a mask. I utilized my gradient tool to get the color blends.
Here is my mini- animation! I struggled a bit in the animating stage- keeping Mr. Potato Chip proportionate while jumping. If I were able to keep him the same size while he jumps, it would have lead to a smoother transition like he was gracefully flying in the air like intended. Another minor setback I encountered was that I had to change my character last minute. I had to use the shape and face that I had to warp it into something completely new (the curvature tool was my friend on this one). Overall, I really liked how my animation turned out and I learned a lot about movements in animations and how hard it is to make even something simple like a Potato Chip look like its moving naturally.
Here is some of my sketched and design idea for my mask project. I think i am going to stick with like a porcelain white and purple color scheme for my mask and also add some sort of design that will really help with dimension.
Here’s where some of the inspiration for my mask came from. My mom and her side of the family are from Japan, and I have always admired the different types of masks that vary facial expression and color and represent different things.
Mini Annimation Week 3
Here is my mini-annimation so far. I had to change my annimation yesterday for something that came up that I realized might be sensative to a specific culture, so I improvised but I am rather satisfied with this little guy. I'm going to add him jumping up and down as the movement for this annimation... enjoy:)
