Surge’s transition to a hero has been….rough
A surgamy doodle for valentines 💕
Became a handler to get into that kinky power play dynamic shit with an unstable pilot, turns out I’m just an overglorified bureaucrat spending most of my time doing paperwork or being at staff meetings. All the pilots are officers and outrank me and if I say anything a little too spicy I’m in the brig for a week and my pay is docked for half the year, this is bullshit I want my money back.
Ah, rookie mistake, see what you wanna do is capture an enemy pilot first, then do the kinky power play dynamic with them! You still have to do paperwork though, the genre is called mechsploitation and oh boy are the military gonna be sure to exploit you too.
You get used to it though! That's what my handler says at least.
Yeah I tried that, I was told no!
Apparently that’s not allowed, something about “they’re prisoners of war, they have protections” and “they’re still officers, they still outrank you and you still have to respect them” and “that’s well outside of your authority”
Idk I think it’s dumb but now I’m in jail awaiting a court martial for insubordination and abusing prisoners, I think they’re kicking me out of the military.

Contrary to popular belief, Sonic doesn’t struggle with blurting things out before thinking about them.
In fact, pretty much everything he says is very carefully considered!
Sonic’s just an asshole.
There is a seriously underrated possible mentor-mentee dynamic you could do with Shadow, Surge and Kit. He’s probably the only person in the world who can truly related to and understand where they’re coming from.
He may be harsh about it, but he’s the only one who can really empathize with them and it’s a a tragedy that IDW isn’t taking that opportunity. I high key don’t even like Shadow, but it’s such a good plot line that I’m upset no one really seems to go for it.
While everyone gushes on and on about training and making new pilots, all the cybernetics and social conditioning, no one really thinks how handlers are trained.
Oh sure, there's academies, schools, and training courses a plenty, but those usually cover how to properly handle a pilot, how to keep them in line, or at the very least how to direct them what to destroy and not to destroy. But surprisingly little thought is put into how handlers are supposed to lead and direct their pilots in the middle of combat.
The traditional answer some still believe is simple; they don't. Mostly amongst militaries, handlers are strictly to ensure pilots are docile and obedient, but the actual command is left to separate officers and commanders.
But some militaries and most corporations have decided in recent decades to shift the responsibility of battlefield command to the handlers themselves as combat as become smaller in scale. And to cut down on manpower.
These days, most groups instead opt to give handlers only partial leadership training in whatever schools they go too, instead preferring to assign them to older veteran pilots to teach them how to properly lead a pilot into combat. And to determine if they are good enough to stay a handler.
Often nearing their retirements or end of contracts, veteran pilots have often been piloting longer than new handlers have been alive. This means two things, firstly older pilots tend to rely less on stimulants and drugs, their years and decades of experience often meaning they can pilot their mechs even better than a regular pilot can even when totally or nearly sober.
While still far from being well adjusted, they're far less reliant on a skilled handler to keep them in line, giving the young handler more room to fail without serious consequence.
Secondly, older pilots can largely handle themselves in a fight, those decades of experience almost means they know the ins and out of a shoot out like the back of their hand. This is also combined with an unspoken agreement that in these unique bondings, pilots are effectively given the right to "constructive insubordination" and allowed to openly question or out right ignore bad orders.
No where is this a codified thing and the degree of independence varies, but generally in theory the handler is still in charge theoretically and their world is still law. In practice it often comes to down he-said-she-said, which means it's the word of a fresh college grad new kid against the pilot who are often on a first name basis with generals and senior executives. Young handlers usually don't win those.
All this means that while a yound freshly trained handler may have all the legal power in the world. They can very quickly find themselves powerless if they play their cards wrong.
This is all on your mind when you arrive at your new FOB. Freshly minted Handler insignia on your collar and a uniform that barely even has creases on it yet. In a few moments, you're about to meet the the pilot that can make or break your career as a handler.
Having been the guardians of the Sol Emeralds for probably a long time, Blaze’s family/royal house was probably revered as god emperors at one point and maybe still are to some extent
If I was a peasant a few hundred or thousand years ago I’d certainly worship the floating glowing dude with fire powers as at least somewhat of a god
Which Sonic characters would kill and why?
Would kill with no/few qualms
Silver - Post apocalyptic futures aren’t friendly places with simple rules, you survive by any means necessary or you die. Silver has lived almost his entire life in that world, he may not be blood thirsty but he also won’t to pop your skull like a balloon with his mind.
Kit - Little dude’s just straight up losing it, he wants Surge to be happy, he needs Surge to be happy, if they means endangering people, who cares. If someone wants to take Surge away from him, he’ll be more than happy to make sure they never get the chance.
Surge - Straight from the tube, Surge never exactly had a high value on life, particularly others. She’s not exactly killing people to kill but she won’t even think once if she accidentally murks a bystander. Lately she’s become more aware and cautious, still just as willing to kill but against folks who actually deserve it.
Whisper - Basically just canon tbh, she has to be convinced by other characters not to immediately kill certain people, she’s not losing a wink of sleep over it.
Omega & Metal Sonic - These guys do not give a fuck, they’d kill someone just cause they could if they weren’t restrained. They are purpose built killing machines one of which openly scoffs at the concept of mercy and compassion and the other agrees.
Gardon - You know Alfred, Batman’s butler? Yeah he’s basically the same thing. You think those medals from his time in the Imperial Navy were just for show? Princess Blaze refuses to kill her foes, a belief which he has nothing but the utmost respect for, he however subscribes to no such niceties.
Would kill with reservations
Shadow - He takes his promise to Maria seriously and that means not killing people. He may find it frustrating at times, sometimes stacking bodies may be the ideal route, but he doesn’t for Maria. He still allows himself nuance, if killing one person saves a thousand lives he’s not gonna hesitate at all.
Knuckles - Knuckles is a warrior through and through, and sometimes warriors kill. He’ll almost avoid killing as the first course of action, everyone deserves a chance to admit defeat. If he has to kill, he’ll he disappointed that he had to resort to it, at himself and the other person.
Rouge, Jet, Wave, & Storm - They’re thieves, to them an ideal job means no ever knows they were there. They may be criminals but they’re murderers, sure push comes to shove they don’t have any issues in self defense, but they won’t take it easy and it won’t be their choice. Besides, murder gets the cop’s attention way more than robbery.
Wouldn’t kill under almost any circumstances
Amy - Amy’s quick to defend herself and others, and is no slouch in a fight, but she absolutely abhors any idea of killing even the worst people. She fully believes that everyone can be helped and reformed. Though she may, under the most extreme circumstances, kill if there is no other solution, and she’ll be a wreck about it for quite a long time afterwards.
Blaze - Despite an unwavering sense of justice, killing has never been something Blaze has been comfortable with. One of the first of her very few royal decrees when she came of age was to outlaw the death penalty in the Sol Empire entirely. She won’t rebuke the concept entirely but if there’s a way to avoid it she’ll take it even if it’s at a greater cost of something else.
Vector & Espio - They’re detectives, their job is to gather evidence and catch the criminals. They aren’t the judge, they aren’t the jury, and they sure as hell aren’t the executioners. They’ll kill strictly to defend themselves and others and only once non-lethal options have been exhausted.
Sonic (Post-Forces & Metal Virus) - Freedom is the greatest thing a person can have, but what if they use to rob others of their freedom? What does he do to those who dedicate themselves to killing and hurting as many people as possible, people who refuse to change under any circumstances? To protect themselves freedom of most people, wouldn’t it be best to take it away from some? Sonic hasn’t slept right in a long time.
Refuses to kill at all
Sonic (Pre-Forces & Metal Virus) - Freedom is the greatest thing a person can have, the freedom to be themselves, to do want they want, to see the world. Killing is the ultimate removal of that freedom, ripping it away irrevocably, something Sonic refuses to do even at the cost of his own life.
Tails - Heroes don’t kill, and he’s a hero, he wants to help people, to save people, even bad people, even if it endangers himself. Sonic always finds a way to get everyone out alive, that means he can find a way too.
Tangle - Genuinely doesn’t even think of it as an option, heroes like Sonic beat up the bad guy and save the day, they don’t kill people, Sonic doesn’t kill people! Besides, someone’s gotta stop Whisper from putting a bullet between the eyes of every new bad guy.
Cream - Obvious reasons
hi there! i like this analysis and i agree with majority of it (although for different reasons) but i’d like to add my own thoughts:
Shadow: would kill without hesitation. he has been inherently programmed to attack in the most efficient and fatal way like it’s nothing. he doesn’t *willfully* kill, at least in most cases, but he isn’t given the autonomy to check on anyone he attacks or hold back to ensure he doesn’t kill them. he murders squad jackal and doesn’t even remember, because it’s just another mission for him. i think a better way to frame it is that shadow won’t necessarily murder, but he does certainly kill without hesitation.
Jet: would NOT kill. ever. he prioritizes racing, not violence. he is hotheaded with his words, not his actions. the entire riders series overstates that he has a very strong moral code and honour system, so he wouldn’t even accidentally kill someone. they’re not violent thieves, they’re famous extreme gear riders who happen to also treasure hunt, but this part of their lore was inherently tied to them learning more about their heritage. idw is the only source of media who strays from this piece of canon, as even archie and its spinoffs honoured this connection. jet would never kill.
Storm: storm COULD kill, by accident. it’s been shown that he has immense strength, and is the official enforcer of the babylon rogues. he loves a good brawl, immediately squaring down with knuckles. he would not however, kill. when he accidentally attacks the robot in riders, he rushes over to apologize and try to help it back up. he arguably is the kindest of the three rogues and certainly wishes no severe harm on anyone, so the only time he’d kill someone is if they were brawling and he accidentally hit them too hard (bad control of his power, akin to shadow)
Wave: this one seems a little contradictory, but she still probably wouldn’t kill anyone ever. she’s the rogue with the highest moral sway, opting to help the more heroic characters with no reservations. however, she’s also the only canonical dirty player. while she would never get her hands directly dirty, it’s possible for her to manipulate a scenario so that someone gets injured or taken out of the equation, even if this proves to be fatal. the complicated setup to a scenario like this would never be seen in the sonic canon though, so she’s safely tucked away under someone who would never kill. if anyone were to expand on sonic though fanworks, there is canonically-adjacent potential for someone like her to kill though, the plot just has to be nuanced enough.
Blaze: sorry, you got this one entirely wrong. her character description and depiction in rush is literally built around the principle of her never holding back her immense power, having a bad temper that fuels it, and has absolutely no qualms with using lethal force. blaze is one of the MOST violent sonic characters, which is worsened by her social aversion and isolation. she is willing to seal off the sol dimension to protect her people, even if it causes the deaths of her friends or other communities. the whole point of the rush games was to STOP her from being pro-murder by warming her up to the concept of friendship. this didn’t work too well though, and she’s still extremely pro-murder.
Espio: this is another one you got entirely wrong. as far back as his debut in knuckles chaotix, espio has been described as hotheaded and violent, with the other chaotix (namely charmy) being tasked with calming him down. he wishes death upon eggman with pent up murderous rage spanning multiple games, and all his comic depictions have him as an assassin or would-be assassin if other people didn’t sway him out of killing. did you miss the tinker issues of idw where he wants to arrest and ideally kill eggman while he has amnesia, and reminds sonic that he fucked up when eggman ultimately returns? “death to the evil one, prepare to DIE eggman” is not a quote from a character who is above killing. espio is about on the same level as omega, which is saying something.
Sonic: oh boy. i’m not going to cite every instance of sonic being okay with murder across the games and comics, but while he’s typically considered a hero, i think this is a horrible representation of his character’s core values. sonic wants adventure. he wants to help people, but not systems. not governments. sonic is very anti-organizations, which is why it bothered so many people when movie sonic was cooperating with GUN. yes he hates evil, but he doesn’t like to be a pawn or an ally because he values his freedom above anything. this also makes him irresponsible, as he will “save the day” and liberate a place but take off, with no regard for order or those who have to pick up the broken pieces. you’re correct that sonic values freedom, but he’s also selfish. if he had to choose between someone’s freedom and his own, he still always chooses his own. sonic would kill for his own freedom if the force of someone else was trying to trap him in. mr “all stories have to end” the hedgehog is fine with killing given the right circumstances. it’s simply not true thay he’s unwilling, his morals are firm but the circumstances are what define how likely he is to kill. we don’t get variety with the circumstances in sonic anymore because that’s not profitable.
okay, i’m gonna speedrun these last two because they’re easy enough to oneshot and this is getting long LOL
Tails: play the adventure games. tails is pro murder, not just pro killing. idw itself comments on how if it wasn’t for sonic, tails would have become another eggman. prime is a blatant example of this.
Cream: the whole emerl arc in sonic x???? the fact cheese is a flying nuke in advance??? she might be very very against it, but don’t infantilize her because she’s a child. she has a good heart but she hates evil and loves her friends. if she had to, even if she hated it, she would kill. she has killed. it hurt her, but she has done it.
Yeah I made this when I was semi delirious at 5 am, idk what I was thinking with Blaze lmao
The only take I’ll defend is Cream, I wasn’t thinking of her being young but from the metal virus arc where she didn’t want Whisper to kill Eggman at the time she’d probably be the most cool with it, that’s it

Has this always been a thing or have fan arts of Amy given been in an arms race to give her the biggest boobs they can put on her. Seems like every drawing of her online increases her breast size by two degrees.
you don’t need anyone else.
Random Surge Headcanons
⚠️Surgamy & Minor NSFW ahead, be warned now.⚠️
All Headcanons are under the assumption that both Surge and Amy are adults.
- Exponentially stronger than Sonic in raw performance and only very slightly slower than him and very technically well trained, but only in specific circumstances set up by Starline and lacks any real experience to properly use her power.
- Absolutely terrible at flirting, can barely muster a coherent sentence when attempting and almost has a heart attack when given even a basic compliment. Amy said she looked handsome one day and Surge went unresponsive for an hour, almost died when she met Rogue.
- Absolutely zero rizz, unfathomably negative rizz, physically could not have less rizz if she tried. Fortunately for her, that’s exactly Amy’s type.
- Hardcore lesbian, men don’t even remotely interest her. Very confusing for Starline when he found out cause before his modifications and brainwashing she wasn’t and he didn’t do anything to add that.
- Surprisingly very good with children, but in perhaps the most dangerous and reckless way possible. They’ll be unharmed and very entertained, but boy are they not really gonna be safe.
- The only time she’s had a positive conversation with Sonic was when she asked him for advice on how to take Amy out on a date. Tails is the only other one who knows about it cause it was at his house, none of them have said a word about it ever since.
- Surge has begun to work with Tails more often with experiments regarding her powers. Kit is not a fan but Surge tells him it’s just so they can be stronger together, nothing more.
- ⚠️NSFW⚠️ Surge and Amy have barely done it, every time they’ll just barely start before Surge gets a PTSD episode from Starline and ending it abruptly. Surge is immensely frustrated every time it happens.
- ⚠️NSFW⚠️ Surge is the sub in the relationship. Absolutely no idea what she’s doing, let’s Amy lead the way.
- Also terrified of Vanilla, logically
Create Your Own Airforce: East Germany Alt History, 2015
Lore
The year is 2015 and the Cold War rages on. While the world enjoys the respite of the Second Detente, the East German government has renewed its commitment to modernizing its air force after finalizing the retirement of its last MiG-21, removing the last MiG-21 from its arsenal.
This comes after a series of agreements with the Soviet Union to expand the East German Luftstreitkräfte with a large array of modern 4th generation fighers.

Sonic Headcannons, Alcohol Tolerance Edition!
Permanently Sober or Can’t Get Drunk
Shadow - Gerald wanted to remove as many perceived flaws or weaknesses from Shadow as possible, including the ability to get Drunk. He physically cannot process alcohol at all, let it having an intoxicating effect on him. This isn’t much of a problem since Shadow doesn’t drink anyway.
Sonic - Sonic is weird and unusual in many ways, one of the many quirks and oddities is that he just can’t get drunk. No explanation or reason, his metabolism is only somewhat above average. Sonic’s just weird. Sonic prefers fruity cocktails for their taste.
Knuckles - Technically, Knuckles can get drunk and has, but he’s spent nearly his whole life brewing his own moonshine so strong it would kill most regular people. He simply has such an insane tolerance that he may as well be immune to it. Knuckles makes his own moonshine.
High Tolerance
Vector - He’s simply been drinking longer than most of Sonic’s friends have been alive, he’s got plenty of experience on handling a little alcohol. Vector prefers a nice Guinness.
Storm - He’s just a big guy, there’s a whole lot of him to dilute the alcohol, anything short of Everclear or whatever Knuckles makes is going to struggle to get him sloshed. He doesn’t really have a preferred drink, so long as it has high alcohol content.
Marine - Technically Marine is still very below the legal drinking age of the Sol Empire. In practice, there’s few people willing and less able to stop a sailor from drinking, and oh boy, she drinks a lot. She prefers straight Rum.
Vanilla - These days Vanilla rarely drinks, a glass of wine or two for special celebrations or when out with friends. However back in the Freedom Fighters days Vanilla used to be able to out drink just about anyone around. And despite the years she’s still needs a lot to even feel tipsy. Her favorite drink is red wine.
Average Tolerance
Rouge - A wine mom through and through, it is the drink of high society after all? She’s been to enough fancy parties with enough alcohol to stay sober after a few drinks. Not that you’ll be able to tell if she’s drunk anyway since she never shows any signs until she’s passed out. Her favorite drink is champagne.
Amy - Easily the most responsible drinker behind Vanilla, she’ll have a few drinks when out with friends of age, but will rarely go past two or three. She never drinks alone, always in social situations. Her favorite drink is a strawberry daiquiri.
Jet & Wave - Pretty frequent drinkers, they’ll always have a few toasts after a successful job or race. Despite being able to drink roughly as much as each other, Jet always brags about how much more he can drink, much to Wave’s annoyance. Their favorite drink is Whiskey.
Starline - He drank fairly frequently, but never more than one drink at a time. He cut back dramatically when fired by Eggman and when making Surge and Kit. His favorite drink was a rum and coke.
Lanolin - Turns out leading a commando team and being a notable leader of the Restoration in the Sonic world is extremely stressful, who could’ve guessed! Lanolin only began drinking as a form of stress relief, her preferred drink is just regular beer.
Lightweight
Blaze - She doesn’t really drink that much aside from formal occasions, which are fewer and farther between than one would imagine. As such she’s developed almost no tolerance much to her embarrassment every time she gets tipsy over half a glass. Her favorite drink are hard seltzers.
Surge - Talks a big talk and is eager to prove she’s better than Sonic, that includes in drinking, cause Starline made her better, right? Yeah, no, she’s s total lightweight, the lightest on this list in fact. In part cause of a strange quirk with the modified Metal Virus inside of her dramatically increasing her susceptibility for Alcohol. She doesn’t have a favorite drink but prefers higher alcohol content, much to her dismay the next morning.
Tangle - Pretty much skin and bones, coupled with her own low tolerance, means she’s gotten drunk from just a single drink. Fortunately Whisper is always there to make sure she doesn’t drink too much. Her favorite drinks are fruity cocktails.
Silver - Silver never had a sip of alcohol until he went back to the past, and it turns out he loves drinking. Doesn’t matter the drink, he loves the taste and the buzz regardless. He’s easily the heaviest drinker despite only getting to two drinks before being drunk. He’s also routinely flips from giggling endlessly, sobbing incoherently, and casually dropping the most horrifying trauma from the future all in the span of 30 seconds. He doesn’t have a favorite drink, he’ll drink whatever you put in front of him.
Espio - Can’t handle shit despite his best efforts too. He’ll whenever the Chaotix are celebrating something, but he doesn’t last long before Vector bans him from drinking anymore. Like the weeb he is, his favorite drink is Sake.
Doesn’t Drink/Isn’t Allowed Too
Cream - Self explanatory, she’s too young and Vanilla doesn’t let her.
Tails - Hates the taste and feeling of alcohol, has been given a few sips to try by Sonic (he’s a good brother, not a responsible one) and has disliked it every time.
Kit - Tails didn’t drink, so Kit doesn’t drink, at least according to Starline’s logic. It’s the one thing Kit is still grateful to Starline for seeing how easily Surge gets drunk trying to copy Sonic.
Charmy - Isn’t allowed to drink much to his disapproval by Vector or Espio. The Chaotix agency has 7 locks on every liquor cabinet just cause of Charmy.
Big - Alcohol tastes bad, ergo, he doesn’t drink.
Eggman - Refuses to drink, believing it to lower his mighty intellect. Despite his general refusal to drink, he does have a preference towards Brandy on the exceptionally rare moments he does.
Whisper - After the original Diamond Cutters were killed, Whisper briefly tried drowning her sorrows in alcohol before sobering up through sheer force of will to hunt down every eggbot in existence.
Jewel - Never got into drinking, she doesn’t hate it and will drink a little if offered or at an event, but won’t go out and ask for a drink.
