Drill Rig Stabilizer Legs
HARDAB use three stabilizer legs on our rigs but why not four? A man with the name Thomas Dalton ( that has a master in Mathematics and has been a Top Writer on Quora in 2014 and 15) explained this brilliantly on Quora when asked why a camera tripod have three legs and not four, that same answer justifies the use of three stabilizer legs on our drill rigs.
– Three legs are the minimum required to be stable in three dimensions (in technical language, each leg constrains one degree of freedom). The problem with four (stabilizer legs) or more is that they may not all be able to touch the ground at the same time if either the ground isn’t level or the legs aren’t all the same length. This causes things with four legs too sometimes wobble.
