homecomings
Jo leans into the kiss to her temple, relaxing at the compromise. Â She knows sheâs lucking out pretty fiercely, which is okay by her. Â Her spirits are highâ-her family is back to the way it was, and it feels good to have him home. Â It feels like anythingâs possible and they can make everything work out, simply because Daddy is home. Â âThank you, Daddy,â she says with a soft little smile. Â âThat sounds nice.â Â Sheâs hoping for warm milk. Â Warm milk and cookies before bed is the best, if you ask Joanna Harvelle.
Ellen smiles and nods ever so slightly at his suggestion that they all have milk and cookies.  âHelp me in the kitchen?â she proposes, as she settles the shotgun behind the bar, in a safe place.  The fire will sit low in her belly, but it will stay.  The heat of it may burn slowly inside her for the rest of her life.  Her husband is home.  Thereâs nothing more important in the world than that.  Or keeping him where he belongs.  She has so many questions only he can answer, and sheâs longing to ask them.  Why that hunt?  Was there something wrong?  When she pleaded with him to stayâŠwhy didnât he?
Bill still wants a little time with his bit, and he thinks that this is a fair suggestion, honestly. It's a special time, he's home, so she should be allowed a little indulgence. Just not too long, because he may jump his wife first if they wait a little too long. He nuzzles Jo's hair with a bigger smile for the agreement from Ellen. "You're very welcome, Baby." And of course it will need to be warm milk! He knows that helps her falls asleep too, so there's a double reason for warming her milk.
Shifting, he lifts Jo from the bar and nods. "We'd love to help you in the kitchen. Right, Jo?" He's hoping she meant all of them as he moves to the end of the bar and waits for her to slip out from behind it. His arm is out when she gets close too, so he can draw Ellen into a hug and have her closer. There are a lot of answers he knows he owes her, ones they'll need to discuss and for her to hear. But that can come tomorrow. After they get their girl to bed, after she has her anger out, and then they can sate that fire that burns in them both. "Warm milk and cookies for our daughter."
