YES!!
Be happy. Even if the only thing that makes you happy is your morning tea. Live for that morning tea intake. Make it marvelous. Get excited about it. Buy mugs, buy a tea maker, buy a massive stock of teas so you can have an endless variety. Maybe learn how to make it, open up a tea business. Let that small happiness, whatever it is, become your passion. It’s what will keep you alive.
Today’s journal extract. Seriously. Do whatever it takes to keep yourself happy and alive. (via thoughtsforbees)

giving money to the homeless people you see panhandling on the street is direct action
Yeah, directly going to find their drug addictions.
this just in everybody: drug addicts deserve to die of thirst, starvation, exposure, or withdrawal symptoms!!!!!!! i mean, its not like they’re actual PEOPLE with HUMAN RIGHTS or something lmao, that would be SO fucked up. gosh, i’m so glad we finally cleared the air around this issue. check out this amazing humanitarian up here folks.. truly a role model :’)
people act like drug addicts don’t, you know, tend to their basic human needs before doing/purchasing drugs. chances are you’re giving someone money for water and medication. if you’re really that fucked up about it buy someone a giftcard for starbucks. op, i’m sorry you had to see that comment it’s batshit.
also why is every homeless person now suddenly a drug addict? there are plenty of other causes of homelessness.
^ exactly. mental illness is a huge contributing factor to homelessness, and being kicked out for being LGBT is a big one for younger people.
Tbh a lot of people are paranoid to give homeless people money because sometimes instead of buying necessities like food or clothes, they’ll just buy another bottle of alcohol or cigarettes (in SOME cases). In NYC that happens a lot, and especially where I live.
I was walking around town doing photography one day and watched a person while doing my loops beg for over four hours (possibly longer; I was down there in the afternoon), only to go spend the money on a bottle of alcohol.
And when I was down in South Carolina I watched a guy panhandle money for a bus ticket, but bought cigarettes instead.
If you really want to help someone but are afraid of that happening, buy them food directly. Ask them what they’d like. Give them a bottle of water, some socks or a pair of shoes.
I got extra money in a paycheck so I went to the thrift store and bought a bunch of XXL sweatshirts and scarves to hand out.
If youre concerned about giving someone money because you dont want them harming themselves or youre concerned they’ll spend it on something unwise like alcohol or drugs, give them items thatll still be beneficial instead.
I would like to just add to this post that you can literally die from alcohol withdrawal and it is one of the worst drugs to go off of without proper care.
“Alcohol withdrawal symptoms can begin as early as two hours after the last drink, persist for weeks, and range from mild anxiety and shakiness to severe complications, such as seizures and delirium tremens (also called DTs). The death rate from DTs – which are characterized by confusion, rapid heartbeat, and fever – is estimated to range from 1% to 5%.Because alcohol withdrawal symptoms can rapidly worsen, it’s important to seek medical attention even if symptoms are seemingly mild. Appropriate alcohol withdrawal treatments can reduce the risk of developing withdrawal seizures or DTs.” [From WebMD link above]
So maybe keep that in mind when you’re criticizing people for spending money they got panhandling on drugs and alcohol - sometimes the care they need at that moment is to not suddenly go into physical withdrawal with no support system to care for them during it.
It’d be great if that wasn’t the problem, but we resist allowing shelters to exist that provide functional alcohol addiction treatment to people with no money. It’s a lot more helpful to criticize the system that makes addiction the less painful option than existence than to demonize the people surviving that way.

Oh my god
I just wanted to address something after having a conversation with a friend and realising there is a slight misconception when it comes to protein, as well as getting it from plant based sources.
Our recommended protein intake daily is 0.8 grams per kg of body weight. The average woman aged 19-70 needs roughly 46 grams daily. Some people think we need 100g or some crazy high amount, but unless you’re doing strenuous exercise or activity, we don’t need much more than 46-48.
The second misconception is that vegetarian or vegan diets make it hard to obtain protein. I just logged my breakfast and lunch into tracking website, and before even adding dinner or snacks I have already eaten 51 grams of protein. All I’ve had is homemade cereal, oats and almond milk. Completely plant based, very high-carbohydrate foods, and I have already met the RDI before 1pm. Dinner is usually a much more protein-rich meal, including things like lentils, spinach, broccoli, beans, mushroom, tofu, tempeh, veggie burgers, etc, but even with simple grains my needs have already been met for the day.
As long as you’re eating nutrient rich foods and eating sufficient calories (i.e. 2000-2200+ daily), it is practically impossible to be protein deficient.
