hsmtmts: thoughts

so far I’m not a big fan. i thought it had a cool concept, but so far i’ve yet to get invested. i’m really not into the romance/love triangle since i don’t even like the characters involved. the writing can also be quite cringeworthy at times, like when the drama teacher said that she was triggered as a millennial. i also don’t appreciate how that choreographer trashed the two sequels, since i’m of the opinion that hsm2 and hsm3 are much better than the first movie.

that’s not to say there’s nothing good about it. there were a few funny lines here and there. so far my favourite character is Gina. i’m interested to see where she goes, and if the show will commit to her being a real villain. i also like that the teenagers actually look like teenagers. i’m definitely still gonna keep watching it, but i definitely don’t have high expectations.

ALSO i love that Nini has two moms. even though the show has been painfully straight so far, i appreciate that there’s a lot more representation in modern disney shows. i hope they have more screentime later

Not to harp on this again all day, but I feel like the whole thing with Max and Fang getting together but being terrible for each other because they're so emotionally stunted would have been great. If it was actually JP's intent. And I really don't think it was.

Everyone always talks about this, but honestly? The older kids should be so much more fucked up and vulnerable than they are. I'll give the younger ones a pass, esp Angel, because they may have been too young to really remember everything that happened to them/may have actually blocked out those memories. But all of them seem like perfectly fine and well-adjusted people, especially for being, yknow, tortured and raised in a cage.

Which brings me to my main point: despite not talking to anyone besides each other for the past 2 years, they don't really seem? Emotionally stunted? Max is awkward around adults and other kids her age, but she's able to adjust incredibly quickly and act like a normal person without much issue other than just being kind of sassy and abrasive. She should probably have way more trust issues than she does, but she warmed up a lot of characters outside of her flock so fast, much faster than she probably should have. And Fang seemed to blend in with the other kids at school with no problem at all. True, we didn't really get to see inside his head and how he's feeling but like? He gets a girl within a couple days of being at the school.

My brain cell just stopped working so that's all I have for now but I just. So much potential. All wasted.

Day 7: Barbie as Blair Willows from Princess Charm School. I like Blair, she is a hard worker but at the same time knows when it’s time to ask for help. The only thing I don’t like from this movie is her Princess outfit(it truly doesn’t work for me).

Day 4: Barbie as Eliana from Fairytopia. I admit that when this movie come out I was already too old for it. I’ve only watched it as an adult and it’s a really simple movie that it’s really cool is Eliana herself that even without wings managed to save everybody.
