Addison helped move her hair from her neck as she brought it around her neck and clasped it in the back. “I’m glad you like it,” she smiled softly, “I wanted to make today extra special for you. This is only the first part of your gift… the second, you’ll get tonight.”
“Tonight huh? Well, do I get a hint as to what tonight entails?”

“Maybe I’m not the one who’s changed,” she shrugs pulling out her phone and looking at herself in her camera, “It’s whatever. Are we celebrating your twenty-first or are we going to keep shitting on Mia?”
“What is that supposed to mean? You’re not just gonna use my birthday to get wasted or high, or whatever it is you’re doing these days.”

“Open it,” she smiled hard hoping she would like it. She spent two hours in Tiffany’s trying to find the perfect gift. “I get off in two hours and then I need to make a quick run to the store but yeah, I will be there.”
Harriet opened the box and saw a beautiful silver necklace. “Addison Montgomery. No you didn’t.” She pulled out handing it to her to put around her neck. “I’ll never take this off. This is beautiful. I love you, thank you.”

“Things change, Rhett,” the girl rolled her eyes. She didn’t mean to come off so angry but it seemed to be the only emotion she has lately.
“You’re completely unrecognizable and it’s disgusting. Who are you and what have you done to Mia.”

Addison let a smile creep onto her face when Harriet said those three special words. The redhead had been feeling it herself but was afraid to actually say it aloud; she didn’t want to scare Harriet off. She handed the girl a small box then placed a kiss on her forehead, “I love you too.”
“Addie, oh you shouldn’t have. What is it? You’re coming over tonight right? You’re not on call, you can’t be on call. It’s my day and I want to share my day, with the woman I love.” She said biting her lip.

Mia looked at her phone seeing the date and frowned, “I didn’t even know what day it was, honestly but, uh, happy birthday. We should go out for drinks.”
“What’s happening to you, Mia. You never forget. You used to call me at 11:59.”

“How could I forget?” she smiled bring the lit cupcake closer to her so she could blow it out.
Harriet smiled and giggled as she blew out her candle. She hugged Addie, “I love you,” It was her first time saying so but she knew for awhile.
She looked up as someone called her name, “Can I help you?”
“Happy birthday Harriet,” “Oh thanks Mia.”
Oh, wow, thank you for remembering. Yeah, I’m 21 now. How crazy is that? I can drink legally without my fake, so that’s a breather.

Addison nodded as she scooted closer towards the bed, “I wanted to ask… well, why did you need surgery in the first place? I mean, you never told me and I figured you would in your own time… So, I didn’t really want to ask.”
“O-oh. Well, the wounds are old wounds that my dumb ass ignored for awhile and then they got really infected. That’s all.”

“I don’t want to intrude…” the redhead trailed off, “It’s kind of personal and you don’t have to answer it if you don’t want to.”
“Addie, we’re together, right? You should be able to ask whatever you want.”
