Steddie crumbs (we should’ve even call them crumbs anymore because they’re definitely more than crumbs) that we got in season 5 that I will never get over:
1. Steve choking up talking about Eddie’s death
2. Steve being angry at Eddie for sacrificing himself
3. Steve saying Eddie’s name the most
4. Steve being the only one (aside from Dustin) that’s affected by Eddie’s death
5. Steve being the only one that used something of Eddie’s (Eddie’s spear and Eddie’s shield) and was fully aware that they belonged to Eddie — he held Eddie’s spear like it was something precious when Dustin first gave it to him
6. Steve being the only one (other than Dustin) that avenged Eddie’s death yelling “for Eddie” when they were attacking vecna
7. bonus: Steve being the only one of the adults that stayed in Hawkins he wants to get a house in forest hills the trailer park that Eddie lived in
Steve has been bottling his emotions up for so long, and right before the final battle something inside him finally snaps. He’s so angry at Eddie for everything that he put them through. For almost dying. For the reckless, selfish choice that nearly got him killed that night. He can’t take it anymore. It’s all just too much…
the most shocking thing we got from the finale was them basically all but confirming steddie. or at least showing us they did care about each other and part of the ONLY scenes with steve crying or showing any form of PTSD had to do with EDDIE.
steve was dressed like eddie, he did it for eddie, he settled down in hawkins and wants to move to forest hills where eddie lived and wayne probably still lives.
dustin and steve both got to honor eddie munson even if they could never clear his name- they both got to be more than anyone expected of them.
The Steddie crumbs we got in s5 will keep me fed. Steve mentioning that he was looking to get a place in Forest Hills? The trailer park?? I squealed.
I know Eddie is gone, and it will break my heart forever, but that’s why we have fanfic. He’s alive here. He’s got his posters up in Steve’s (their) trailer, he’s riding shotgun in the pickup when they get Dustin from college for a road trip. He’s teasing Steve about having to say “penis” in front of teenagers. He’s right there in the stands cheering on his coach boyfriend and swooning over him in that baseball hat.
Love it or hate it, season 5 gave us fuel for so many more stories where we can write the happy endings they all deserve.
Eddie didn’t just HAUNT the narrative. He was the narrative. He was Dustin and Steve’s narrative this season, everything they did was in part because of Eddie in some way.
We did get Eddie back, guys.
He was there when Robin asked for bad news first “always”, and later when she broke down after almost losing Steve.
He was there when Jonathan still hated Steve’s guts instead of seeing how he changed, and later when Steve makes sure to thank him for saving his life.
He was there when Nancy promised not to miss this time, and later on when she put everything she had into saving her family.
For Dustin and Steve? We watched Eddie in every scene they came on. We saw them cry, tear each other apart, hug, love, and heal through Eddie. Through his memory. Through everything he ever stood and died for.
and you just know if eddie was still alive he’d be attending every single one of steve’s games. he’d flip off the other team’s parents. he’d pick a different metal song for steve’s team to walk out to every time. he’d paint the kids faces with dragons and devil horns and a bunch of other cool fantasy shit. he’d begrudgingly bring the orange slices and hand them out at the end. he’d stare at steve’s ass in his coaching pants the entire time and completely ignore the score.
