MASTERY JOURNAL ENTRY: MULTIMEDIA ADAPTATION

This time around I approached my assignments different. I finally found a system to getting work submitted on time and my thoughts were well thought out so this story was better than I could have imagined. After feedback from my peers, I took Virginia Woolf’s “A Haunted House” and turned it into a brother and sister learning to listen to each other and find a bond that they lost growing up. The brother, Jake, learns that his sister was hiding what their stepfather did to her growing up. The house that they were haunting was their childhood home and the room was that of a Little Boy who was the son of Jake’s sister, Janice. Instead of a couple trying to find love, it was a brother and sister trying to build their bond to live at peace in the afterlife.

I learned that as a writer you have to look at all different angles of a story. I often read things only once or twice and stick to my original interpretation of the material. I’ve taken advice from my peers and reread the story and saw the other views. My original interpretation was revamped and it challenged me. I stepped out of my comfort zone and I’m proud of what I’ve come up with.
