i finished ship of magic :D!!! i loved it a lot more than i thought i would. i loved certain povs a lot more than i thought i would as well.
i think the farseer trilogy is such an effortless flexing of robin hobb’s ability to write limited pov political intrigue stories. the way she drip feeds world building in those books is unmatched. that being said, she’s flexing completely different muscles with ship of magic. she kind of lures you in with the farseer books and then once you’re invested in the world she goes full high fantasy, and it was just really great to be along for the ride lol. i cannot wait to read mad ship….
something i’m really enjoying about ship if magic is that it reveals just how much of the world you see in the farseer trilogy is impacted by the fact that you only get to see it through the eyes of a child.
i also like having that knowledge going into ship of magic and reading from wintrow’s pov bc he has the exact same thing going on!!! the entire time you see him do things he thinks are right (morally or personally, maybe both) and then he sees the immediate, negative result of having made that choice. and you think “ah, he will learn” and he just doesn’t because he’s a 13/14 year old boy lol.
okay i have a little over 150 pages of ship of magic left and i am So Scared. everything is happening so much.
something i’m really enjoying about ship if magic is that it reveals just how much of the world you see in the farseer trilogy is impacted by the fact that you only get to see it through the eyes of a child.

He is always so proud of her
Every Arya & Lyanna parallel: → rhaegar's rubies
ARYA
"Mycah and I are going to ride upstream and look for rubies at the ford." "Rubies," Sansa said, lost. "What rubies?" Arya gave her a look like she was so stupid. "Rhaegar's rubies. This is where King Robert killed him and won the crown."
LYANNA
Rubies flew like drops of blood from the chest of a dying prince, and he sank to his knees in the water and with his last breath murmured a woman's name . . .
The dead horse beats me
He's exceptionally beautiful today. 💗
