I saw something that was like “we put our lives on pause, but getting vaccinated can help us be able to hit play again” and it just bothered me because I’m not just starting again where I left off. I graduated from college in spring of 2020. I’m never going back to living there and regularly seeing my college friends. I’m never getting my graduation ceremony. I’m not getting my last months of college back. They’re gone!
So anyway this post is dedicated to anybody who went through any transitional period during the pandemic. Whether you graduated, lost somebody, moved, or anything else where you will never truly be able to get the last months/year of [whatever] back. It’s so easy to feel like you should be over it by now and just be grateful whenever you can eat in a restaurant and go into stores again but you lost more than that.
I’m just tired of seeing so many things about “going back to normal” when a lot of us don’t have the same “normal” to go back to.
the best thing about the moon and the sky and the stars is that while you can't ever take a picture of them that does them justice......you don't need to. they're gonna be there tomorrow
Some organic chemistry notes from spring semester, glad to finally have a short break.

Dear college students...
After the first two weeks or so, don’t drop a course without talking to the professor of that course. And this goes double if you’re already earning a passing grade. I know: stuff comes up, life happens. But also, that’s a lot of academic work to write off, without talking to the relevant person about how you’re managing that academic work, and how they can help you with it.
This status indirectly brought to you by the student who was earning a solid B and dropped the course without warning. And that’s a lot of their work and mine just… down the drain.
I’d like to comment on this as someone who has dropped 3 courses so far in college.
Just because you’ve put in a lot of work on something doesn’t mean you should stick with that class. The first class I dropped was an astronomy class because I was so bored and the professor wasn’t teaching in a way I understood. That was a class for my major, which lead to me switching to something else I enjoy way more. The second was the same semester when I was looking into possibly choosing computer science. Again, I dropped it. Most recently, I dropped an environmental statistics course that was for my ChemE focus area. In all of these cases, I was passing the class with an A. Two of those are permanently on my transcript as withdraws. I don’t regret dropping any of those classes even though I put in so much work for them. The commonality in all three is that I didn’t feel like I had retained anything I learned and was putting massive amounts of time into a course that I wasn’t seeing any payoff from. And yeah, will I have to make up those credits somewhere else? Yes, but it was so worth it because I was beating myself up for not understanding what I was doing. My course load feels so much more manageable, fun, and engaging as a result of dropping those classes.
Do I agree that you should definitely consult your professor first? Of course. But don’t feel bad if you still think it is in your best interest to still get out of that course

Hi! I know I’ve been gone for a while, and I’m sorry for that. I've had a lot to deal with since covid hit last march and posting in addition to all that felt overwhelming, so I decided to step back for a bit. I’m not promising to be consistent with this blog, but I’m going to try to post a little more often than I have been.
This image is from the fall 2019 semester, I had no idea what was coming or how much I’d miss going to class and studying in coffee shops and on campus. Hopefully everything is more normal in the fall.
so metropolitan museum of art has a register of books they’ve published that are out of print and that you can download for free! they’re mostly books on art, archeology, architecture, fashion and history and i just think that’s super useful and interesting so i wanted to share! you can find all of the books available here!
GUITAR SONGBOOKS
I’ve managed to collect a ton of official guitar songbook PDFs for various albums which are totally accurate and verified. I thought I’d make a masterpost for anyone who would like to use them! These links should send you to Google Drive and you can download them from there.

Hello, any chemical engineering students out here with good grades? Are you guys willing to share any tips? I am just starting in my first year and I don't understand majority of it and my lecturers are of no help. Any textbooks that you guys think helps a lot or any websites? Please help a student out, thank you.
Honestly I'm in my 3rd semester now and I'm still figuring it out. My grades were not amazing but I did decently good. So those are my takeaways from my first year as an ChemE major:
don't stress about grades. chem e is one of the most difficult engineering courses and at least at my uni, most of first year classes have around 4-5 ECTS points.
i can guarantee you that almost noone has any idea what's going on. my classmates and i spent the first two moths having no idea what the fuck was happening and what was really expected from us. so don't stress too much about it.
find people you can study with. you are going to have to study a lot so may as well have fun with it. (because of covid my friends and i try not to meet up so we do virtual study sessions,we play music, complain about the professors, explain the concepts to each other etc)
try to attend as many lectures as you can! I know they seem kinda useless right know but belive me you gonna be glad you did when you have to study for midterms and exams.
usually the professors have everything you absolutely need to know on their powerpoints and pdfs. Ask upperclassmen if you absolutely gonna need the recommendated books or if you can do without them.
college books are fucking expensive. in my country we are extremely lucky and almost all universities provide them for free. However if you have to buy them yourself these sites may as well save you some cash: https://z-lib.org/, https://ebookee.unblockit.lat/
Slader and Chegg help but discussing it with a classmate is usually much more enlightening.
my biggest takeaway though is to find: 1. your study style (how do you absorb information better, what helps you retain this information) and 2. what does your professor expect from you ( it is usually in the syllabus but tbh if you are confused just send an email and ask them, most of them are going to appreciate it. if you don't what to ask upperclassmen they usually know what's up)
also join your uni's facebook, intsa etc groups that are about your major (most of them contain notes and crucial info about your classes + any specific questions you have usually sb will answer them)
Everyone's experience is so different and I really hope I have helped in some small way! For any further questions my asks and dms are always open! Hope you have a lovely day!
Also if anyone wants to add on that, fell free to do so!
I absolutely agree with everything you said above.
In my experience (also as a 3rd semester ChemE) most of us are confused about the content, and that shows through in exam scores. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing though. Study groups and the list of most important topics on an exam that professors usually provide have been some of the most useful study tips I have. Also, don’t wait to start assignments until the day of or the day before. The earlier you do an assignment, the more time you have to get help if you don't understand something and you’ll probably be less stressed too. Study and review sessions put on by the TAs or your college help too.
I hope that helps, feel free to reach out if you have and questions!

Hello everyone!!
So with covid forcing most universities to switch to online instruction, a lot of incoming freshman as well as current students aren't going to be on campus. With this in mind I thought it could be fun to make a uni studyblr directory!!
Basically if you would like to participate please reblog this and add your university (or country/state if you're more comfortable with that), your major, and your year in the tags!! In a few days I will compile everyone's info into a large directory and masterpost. Feel free to participate if you are in undergrad or grad school!! This is really just for fun and to allow you guys to connect to people in your area/major!!
Tldr: making a uni directory reblog with major, year, and uni to participate
Executive Dysfunction & ADHD study tips! 😙 🌷 😘
I’ve collected study tips from myself and others who struggle with studying. Here’s a masterlist of strategies people use to help :) For those curious, #3 is my personal favourite and is probably the main reason I didn’t flunk all of my classes this year. Feel free to add your own!
Sleep, eat, exercise. The basics. Treating my body right helps me keep a routine and makes me less prone to impulsivity. This makes it a little easier for me to do the things I need to do and fight back my executive dysfunction.
Play idle games while working. Anonymous says “I get bored very, very quickly and need constant stimulation, so every time I have to wait for something, I will immediately divert my attention. Having an idle game running helps me not to lose too much focus, so I get more work done as a result.”
Use a tutor. Since I can’t follow self-imposed deadlines, I create external deadlines by booking tutoring appointments. This forces me to make sure I have at least a basic understand of the material before the session so I know what to go over. Most schools have free peer tutors available, so take advantage (if your school doesn’t, try a study group)! This is a great way to create deadlines you can follow, and it always helps to study with someone who can answer your questions and keep you on task.
Play music. @luminarily says “Sometimes I sit in silence and I get bored of it or I get a song stuck in my head or something. But I have forcibly linked music playlist and actually doing something I need to do so that when I put on music I am automatically forced to do the work I was supposed to do. So it makes the work and the listening more enjoyable both and it’s easier to stay on task… I use unpaid youtube on my phone so I can’t leave the tab or else I can’t listen to music anymore so I can’t go on my phone. And also youtube mobile lets you set watch time timers, so when my music stops I take a break and don’t burn out!”.
Play ambient noise. Similar to #4. I am not stimulated enough when taking notes, reading textbooks, etc., but listening to music can be too much and makes me stressed. I like to play ambient noise (my personal nerdy fave is Slytherin dormitory ambience on Youtube lol). It’s enough to stimulate my brain, but not overpowering to where I get distracted or stressed.
Block out time to do work. @tidal-rose says “I find it easy to do stuff by saying ‘I’ll do it tomorrow.’ But I don’t mean the procrastinate-y ‘I’ll do it tomorrow,’ I mean plan to do it tomorrow. Set aside a block of time when you are going to do nothing but the task. …I just realized this sounds like such a neurotypical answer oh gosh. It really does work to hack my executive disfunction”
Have a plan. If I don’t have a straightforward + actionable plan for right when I wake up, I will just do literally nothing all day. I have to know what I’m going to be doing when I wake up, like “shower, be at the library by 10am, and do practise problems there”. If I only have a vague plan like “study chemistry tomorrow” it’s a lot harder for me to do anything.
Start small. It often feels impossible to do even the bare minimum. When I can’t even get myself to write a single sentence of my paper, I try to do even less than that. Literally just open up a Word document. Even just opening up a blank page is a fantastic start, and starting is the hardest part.
Change locations. The longer I sit in one space putting off an assignment and stewing there in my anxiety about it, the harder it is to start. So I move. Even if I just go from my desk to the floor. Sometimes this can change my headspace enough to make it easier to do what I need to.
I just finished up my first year of college and there are some tips I’ve seen going around that just aren’t true or at least didn’t work for me. So, here is the advice I wish I had.
1. Read. Your. Syllabus. Trust me on this, sometimes professors hide assignments and free points in the fine print to check if students actually read it. Don’t miss free points.
2. Extra credit isn’t very common, do it if you have the time.
3. You might not get along with your roommate, so learn how to compromise. Don’t spend the whole semester fighting with them.
4. Avoid people and activities that you don’t feel comfortable with. This is your time, don't waste it on things that bring you down.
5. Early classes aren’t as bad as people make them out to be. I’ve had class start earlier than 8:00 each semester and I loved it. I’m not a morning person either, so that’s saying something.
6. Schedule classes at times that you feel most focused. There is nothing worse than going to lecture and accidentally falling asleep.
7. Go. To. Class. You are paying for them.
8. Try to eat somewhat healthy. Don’t be that person who eats pizza every day of the week.
9. Try to get enough sleep. Sometimes it’s not possible, but if you have the chance, take it.
10. Take advantage of student discounts.
11. Have a water bottle on you at all times. Dehydration is no joke.
12. Changing majors is completely fine! I ended up hating my major and switched to a different and I am so, so much happier.
13. If college isn’t for you, that is also fine. Do what is best for you.
14. Similar to above, if you don’t like your college, but still want to get a degree, transferring is a great option. I can’t speak from personal experience on this one, but I know people who have and it has made all the difference for them.
15. Don’t feel pressured to party and/or drink. If you want to that’s fine, but watch your deadlines and gpa.
16. Take advantage of free events put on by your college. Mine has movie screenings and all sorts of events.
17. Dorms aren’t that bad. I actually really liked mine and the rooms were a decent size.
18. Don’t pack more than you need and don’t buy everything off of those “what you need for college” lists. If you’ve never used something in your life, you probably won’t use it in college.
19. Start studying for exams at least a couple days in advance.
20. Past exams and practice exams are your best friend. They make studying so much easier.
21. Buy shower shoes.
22. If you’re having trouble in a subject, use your resources. There are tutors and hundreds of online videos and resources to help.
23. Studying the day of the exam isn’t helpful, it just stresses you out.
24. Try and get some exercise. Even just stretching for a couple minutes helps.
25. Make time for yourself.
26. A couple good friends can go a long way, you don’t have to have a big group.
27. Imposter syndrome is very real, but everyone is thinking the same thing so try not to worry about it too much.
28. Have fun.
I’m sure I missed some points here so feel free to add your tips to this list.
