god I’m still so fucking pissed about voltron, but especially Klance. listen. I know. I know it’s 2020. But I could write a whole essay on this. Like,, we weren’t crazy, the subtext WAS there:

The part that angers me the most is that the creators didn’t realize what a perfect narrative arc set up because they were too goddamn straight to understand the inherent homoeroticism of rivals

Not to mention in the FIRST EPISODE it established that their rivalry was one-sided, meaning Lance was just like, excessively fixated on this guy. to the extent that he’s so familiar with his haircut that he can identify it at a distance

the fact that he calls his haircut a MULLET, which makes that double gay

despite the fact that Lance apparently claims to hate Keith so much, this is how he talks about him when he isn’t around:

just…. the way that Lance’s whole insecurity subplot could have been really interestingly resolved by the person he’s jealous of/admires falling in love with him!!!! It just would have been good writing!!!! especially since Lance’s insecurity issues were mostly unaddressed!!!!!!

jfghgh just….. all the ingredience were there,,, like the narrative felt like it set itself up for it and the writers just. Didn’t even realize they made a recipe for an IDEAL rivals to friends to lovers……. I’m so bitter

also lets just not forget that Voltron deliberately tagged their show and their Youtube videos as KLANCE with ZERO INTENTION of following through with it. Not to mention the fact that they had full interviews about Klance to get people to watch vld.

and a common misconception is that they knew the fans liked klance but were too cowardice to go through with it, or that they didn’t go through with it specifically to spite fans.

They were working on the episodes longggggg before they started airing. There was virtually no influence from the fan response. It was never even on their radar (which. Again. They were rivals!! how could they be that oblivious!!) but they teased the fans with it anyways

and then they prided themselves on having ‘actual gay representation’ in a flashback, only to reveal in the very next scene one of them was dead. fuckin. yikes
