if you allow me to get sappy for a moment, i’ve been reading and importing these books for nearly 7 years and knowing I’m gonna be able to pick these up in stores in september and the covers are THIS incredible … makes me so, so, so fucking happy. i am legitimately so grateful for harpercollins for this

i know a lot of people knee-jerk dislike the covers because they’re new, and not tom, but legitimately they are really, really, REALLY good. there’s so much detail - inspiration from irish architecture and buildings, the deliberate choices in the background stencils, etc. 

dd is my favorite, probably because my ONE complaint is how skeletons free these covers are but there’s skulls EVERYWHERE here!! i love the black and yellow that reads as caution/danger to me, the beautiful buildings, the skull, the power in valkyrie’s position/pose. the hat floating off looks weird and makes no sense in context but whaaatever, lol. 

mc is a beautiful pinky-purple, and i love the little monster faces on the remnants! i like that the illustrator has taken the original hardback concept and added valkyrie to it, truly, a decision after my own heart

db made me lose my fucking mind because I went “that’s vile and— DARQUESSE, HOLY F U C K” and then just screeched. i love how this cover reads as two ENTIRELY different concepts depending on whether or not you’ve finished the book. on first glance, it’s valkyrie being killed by some scary bad guy. after reading it’s darquesse having a GRAND OL TIME meeting vile. look at her hand gripping vile’s, an implication she’s not completely powerless here. look at her expression - she almost seems to be smiling?? also the fucking genius of Big Silhouette skulduggery having an incredibly similar pose to Vile. SO, SO, SO GOOD. 

also valkyrie is totally going “this bitch EMPTY, YEET!” on dd
