“Trauma” - This is the first drawing of mine I have ever felt inclined or comfortable enough to share with or post online. To create it was a very cathartic experience, and the end result is one of the only times with my art where I have ever felt satisfied or happy with the results.
For me, it represents what it feels like to have PTSD flashbacks relating to childhood/medical trauma, but you can interpret it however you like. Such as, it could also represent a feeling such as having a lost or dying childhood. I was also heavily inspired by Vylet Pony’s Song “Huntress”, if you haven’t heard it, please take a listen. (It is an incredible song by an even more incredible artist, the entire album “Monarch of Monsters” is a masterpiece.)
I chose to draw rabbits/hares since these animals hold a lot of symbolism to me. A baby rabbit looks so sweet and innocent, like my childhood, while a grown hare looks so paranoid and scarred, like my adulthood.
I also just wanted to say that I appreciate the vent art and tumblr community as a whole. These experiences have all been very healing to me, both creating art, and sharing art with one another. It helps me to remember I am not alone with these feelings, and that while these feelings can be painful, they are also okay to have, as long as they are expressed in a more safe and controlled creative outlet. So thank you all for that.
This drawing has even inspired me to try painting as I’d like to have it tangibly on canvas one day, as well as a plethora of other brainstorming ideas to continue with digitally. I hope to have more to share with you all soon.
I also hope this post inspires someone else to create some form of vent art and feel the same comfort and relief I felt while doing so. I felt such a weight off my shoulders and a strange sense of freedom afterwards, like I was finally letting these feelings go after all these years. And if you’ve read this far, thank you, that’s very kind of you and also means a lot to me.
Sincerely, ap.
