Whenever people are like transmasc/transfem kris I'm like okay it's your headcanon okay whatever I get being enby isn't mutually exclusive with these things but I fucking wish this didn't happen with literally every nonbinary character ever in fandom
I wish being unaligned wasn't just treated as a stepping stone for something more binary aligned and that being unaligned wasn't treated as less real than binary transness
Why are enby characters considered okay to headcanon as binary in some way and be up to "interpretation" when we very much do not do the same with binary trans characters??
It's not even just Kris. Chara, Frisk, Interloper from Corru.observer too, and I'm sure many others
Why do we have to be put in feminized or masculinized boxes to be acceptable?
I'm sure a lot of this is people relating to the experiences of these characters and I can't blame them for that at all, people do this for a lot of characters they like and relate to.
But why do nonbinary people have to confirm to your expectations of femininity or masculinity in order to be considered by you, why can't we relate as we are? Headcanons do not exist in a vacuum and it's very, very clear to me people struggle to accept ninbinary characters that aren't "girlish" or "boyish" flavored
In a lot of these conversations people are completely ignoring the fact that Kris is the only human in a town of monsters. Textually there is a racial element at play here and it gets so fucking overlooked in favor of being "purely" a queer thing which fandoms in general always. Always have an issue with but that could be a whole different rant
But Also the thing is, there is transmisogyny at play in this conversation, a nonzero amount of the pushback against a transfem Kris headcanon specifically is because people hate transfems, and fail to recognize that masculinity is generally seen as more inherently neutral and default than femininity is, and that's a huge fucking problem that needs to be taken seriously and addressed. We shouldn't be attacking people and harassing them and you need to check yourself as to why someone's headcanon feels like a personal attack
Ultimately a headcanon does not change the text of the narrative, people are free to interpret things as they please but I wish people would check their biases and that unaligned characters could exist As being unaligned without people putting them into boxes
