I know I haven’t been on here in forever (and that is mainly due to insane amounts of schoolwork and stuff), but I have to just rant and I don’t want to put it on my personal blog.

Math is not something I am particularly great at. It is pure torture whenever I take a test because even if I leave feeling great, I find I get a letter grade below what I thought I got.  I studied really hard for four days straight.  I went through the 13 page study guide. I reviewed everything until I could say most of it without even thinking. When I got to the test, I wrote down all I could so I could go and reference it. I didn’t get a super great grade. I still have to get a good grade on the final to be able to pass the class with at least a C. And while I am dealing with this realization, I get to listen to the guys next to me go on an on about how they only studied for one day, or how they forgot to go to class because they slept in. One guy got 98% and only studied for one day. It might not feel all that great, but I am determined to at least get a C, pass this class, and get it over with.

Ava couldn’t trust her words then, so she simply nodded and stepped to the side to watch while he cut the meat.

 ”While you’re doing that, is there something else I can do?” She was eager to help, but confused on the details when it came to cooking.

The knife paused just above the meat as he was about to slice it again. After a moment of deliberation, he pointed at the vegetables with the knife. "W-well you could wash those. Don't take the skin off the potatoes, just get all the dirt off of them."

Ava pouted at his amused expression, but pulled out a cutting board. Her hand wavered when it came to pulling out a knife. After a moments hesitation she pulled it back and declared “I don’t know how to cut meat.” A half-lie - she knew how, but fingers twisted around the handle of a knife brought back too many bitter memories. She hoped they didn’t show on her face.

Odin took the knife gently from her hand, understanding in her troubles. He was aware that Wrathia had made several things sensitive, especially knives. It wasn't something that would end well if he acknowledged.  "L-let me do it."

"LET’S NOT - I mean, let’s not grill the meat…” Fire had a way of getting out of control with Ava’s new-found abilities, and so she tended to make any flames around her scarce. “Cooking it with the vegetables will taste better, right? Grilling is overrated… yeah…”

Odin raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at his lips. He tried to suppress it for her sake with little success. "It'll take longer, but the meat will be a lot s-softer," Odin said. "W-we just need to cut the th-things up, then we can put it in the oven."

She turned, idly gesturing to the fridge off by the far counter. “I put the meat in there, and some canned vegetables in the cupboard. But I wasn’t sure if canned or fresh was better? So I got some fresh too and put it in the fridge.”

"Fr-fresh tends to be better." Odin went around the kitchen and took out the various ingredients. He organized them on the counter - meat in one corner, fresh veggies in another, then the canned ones off to the side.  "Well, what w-we could grill the meat, or we could cook it in a pan w-with the vegetables."

"Oh thank goodness,” she breathed before blinking and announcing “I mean - uh - well lets get started then!” to cover her initial relief. The last thing she needed was for Odin to discover her long history with burning foods on a regular basis.

Odin smirked. It was pretty easy for him to read her reaction to things. Really, he was glad to help out. He stared at her for a few seconds. "Wh-where are the ingredients?"

Ava’s mouth twisted into a small pout. “I can cook just not…” she cleared her throat. “…not very well. I’d appreciate your help, if you’re willing.” She hoped he was willing - the last time she attempted cooking meat ended with something more akin to a block of coal than anything actually edible.

"I d-didn't have any other plans," Odin said. He wouldn't say that cooking was his favorite hobby, but he found something about it to be fun, in a way. Ava probably wouldn't be that bad of a person to cook with, either. She wouldn't be stepping on his toes and snapping at him like the twins.

"I, uhm… I had ordered some meat and vegetables from the marketplace down the road, but I was too nervous to try and cook them." She twiddled her fingers, but her eyes snapped towards Odin with a small glimmer of hope. "Do you know how to cook?"

"I-it's one of my few unknown talents," Odin said with a soft smirk forming at the corner of his mouth. "I-I'd be up for working together to make the birthday dinner, unless y-you need to prove yourself or s-something."

Ava looked at her attempted cake, a tiny smile on her face from his words. "That's... good." She cleared her throat. "If you want, you can toss the cake, or give it to your sisters, or something. I won't be offended."

"M-maybe I can give it to my sisters," he said. "They always try to steal whatever cake I get a-anyway. I might as well just let them have it." He looked to the fridge. "D-did you have anything else you wanted to do today?"

"Yeah," she pulled up a chair to the counter and sat in it with a depressed flop. "But its your birthday. I thought I could at least make a simple cake.” She sighed, the air blowing up her bangs. A small smile cracked across her features. “At least the icing was smooth.” She looked up to him, kneading her hands together. “I hope this didn’t ruin your birthday, or anything.”

Odin shrugged, putting the plate back down on the counter. "Birthdays h-have never been the greatest thing in my family any way. This is honestly one of the b-best I've had."

He briefly wondered what they should do with the rest of the cake, seeing as neither of them seemed to inclined to eat it. Throwing it away might be a bit rude, though.

This incites multiple groans (except for Maggie as she is completely enamoured) from the rest of the group, and a ‘s-stop trying to m-m-make this shitty journey of ours in-into a musical you asshole.’ from Odin.

Ava pulled out a fork and experimentally jabbed her slice, before carving a chunk off and skewering it on the end of her silverware. She bit down and chewed, before her face twisted and she forced herself to swallow. "It... could be better," she mumbled, looking deflated.

He did the same, bracing himself for the worst. It was probably a lot easier for him to eat it, as at that point he was recalling he hadn't eaten almost all day.  "W-well, you are learning," he said in a weak attempt at encouragement.

She puffed her cheeks out and they flushed molten gold as she muttered "it's not my fault..." and she automatically started rubbing her blazing face to disperse the slag that was gathering.

"Anyway, I guess your age doesn't really matter. I was just curious."

Odin nodded, serving the cake onto plates. He pushed one plate closer to her, and held up his own. It was hard not to start getting a bit hesitant as to eating it. But, if eating it would stop her from asking so many questions, he would be willing to eat the whole cake then and there.

"Nuthin’." She sniffed. "I just think you’re lying." She uncrossed her arms and laid her hands on the table. "I mean, you’ve got way too much scruff to be seventeen, unless you’re apart of some lost race of mountain men.”

She paused and laughed a little. “But I guess that’s not out of the spectrum of possibilities.”

Odin's scowl deepened. He rolled his eyes, trying to avoid having to answer her question directly again.  "S-says the girl who glows when she starts getting mad," he retorted.

Ava opened her mouth to respond, before blinking and narrowing her eyes. “Uh huh,” she responded sarcastically “riiight.”

Ava found in her time of trying to separate herself from people, she could pick up on certain habits, like Maggie would curl her hair when bashful or Gil would clasp his hands when excited. Following those lines, she noticed Odin didn’t stutter when he lied. Or at least, she didn’t think he did. Either way, she still looked at him skeptically and crossed her arms.

He went to the cupboard and pulled out two plates. She would want a slice, right? Regardless if she did, he wasn't going to eat this alone. Before he put the plates down, he stopped short, picking up on her tone. "W-what are you uh-huhing about?" he asked, his eyebrows furrowed.
