Isaiah nodded his head, glad to see the side of Haven that he didn’t usually get to see on an everyday basis. The red head was surely no optimist, but that didn’t mean he didn’t enjoy being around people who were in a good mood. “Oh, really?” Isaiah snorted, raising an eyebrow as he began to exit the store with the other male following closely behind. “If you say so, Yoda.”

Haven used his teeth and free hand to open his bag of pretzels, he held the bag out to Isaiah and gave him a small smile. "Want some?" He asked, before taking another sip of his energy drink. "You don't believe me? I could take you I bet." Haven muttered playfully, though he doubted they'd ever fight, he spent most of the time with Isaiah resisting the urge to stuff him full of home cooked meals and cuddling the redhead. "I would make a great Yoda, thank you very much." He grinned as he followed the other out of the store.

“Not really, water damage would have been quick” it was just scrap now. Scrap he had paid a lot of money for once upon a time, but that was a long time ago. “Nah you’re alight, wouldn’ know who to phone anyway” he had been down to two numbers on that phone, and neither of them were ones he needed that much anyway.

Haven finally could no longer resist his curiosity. "Any particular reason you wanted to off your phone so badly?" He gave a small shrug and shoved the phone back into his pocket. "Alright. I'd offer you a ride somewhere or something but I don't exactly have a car so.." He trailed off with another small shrug.

Though she would never consider herself reliant on cigarettes, per se, there came a point when she had to admit to her addiction and now was definitely one of those moments. The sigh which escaped her when the stranger informed her he had a lighter was audibly filled with relief. If she’d had to go any longer without a cigarette, she was sure that she would have gone mad. There was only so long anyone could go without their fix, after all. “You’re a life saver,” she replied, placing one of her cigarettes between her lips and leaning across to allow him to light it. As expected, the very first inhale felt glorious and she held her breath just long enough to enjoy it. Breathing out, she engulfed herself in a small cloud of smoke.

“Seriously, you have no idea how grateful I am,” Megan continued, bracing her arms against the railing and looking out at the early Sunday afternoon tide, tourists already making themselves at home by the sea. “Thanks.”

Haven smiled lightly as he watched tourists and their kids on the beach having fun and shrieking their joy. He gave another pull on his cigarette and felt some of the tension he'd been building up throughout his shift start to melt away a little bit. He loved and hated busy shifts, loved them because he was always on the go and raked in fairly decent tips, but loathed them because he was always tired afterwards. He licked his lips and gave a soft chuckle at her words. "I live to serve, ma'am." He said lightly.

"It was no big deal." He shuffled over a little bit to give her some room on the railing. It was such a nice day, it was a pity he was cooped up in the restaurant all day. "You're welcome."

Sundays had always been Megan’s favourite day – the one day she could spend relaxing, usually a little hungover from the night before, and not worry about anything that might come the next day in the courtroom. In London, everything stayed full steam ahead just like any other day and, away from the fact she wasn’t working, it was just like any other day. Eastbourne, however, offered a lull in the chaos, with some of the shops closing earlier and some establishments never opening at all. It was the sort of calm hush that she had found herself longing for when she’d first moved away from home and, heading down to the pier, she was happy to embrace it. That was, of course, until she couldn’t find her lighter, the only shop she could remember selling tacky tourist style lighters closed for the day.

Smoking in the O'Hara house had always been forbidden and, as a result, she hadn’t dared light up a cigarette when she was indoors and now that she finally had a chance for her first cigarette of the day, she had lost her bloody lighter. “Typical,” she muttered, rummaging around in her bag in the hopes that it had been lost in a crevice. “I’m sorry, you don’t happen to have a lighter do you?” She asked, hoping that the person walking past her was a smoker.

Haven had waved to the bartender as he slipped out of the door to go on his break. Today was an oddly busy day and his Waterfront Café and Bar t-shirt was sticking to his back with sweat, causing him to wrinkle his nose in annoyance. He stopped for a moment, running a hand through his sweat soaked hair, letting the breeze off the ocean cool him a little bit. He pulled out his phone as he began to walk once more, snorting lightly at the ridiculous text his dad had sent him. He replied with an equally ridiculous text as he headed to his favorite smoking spot on the pier.

He'd just pulled out his pack of cigarettes when he'd heard someone asking him something. "Right here." He said, pulling out his lighter and lighting it for her. He then proceed to light his own cigarette, sighing out the smoke as he leaned up against the railing of the pier.

Despite the space limitation with three people now in a tiny emergency room, Genevieve moved about with grace as she procured several gauze pads from the cabinet. “So I see, but that towel isn’t much help, huh?” In her time abroad she’d seen injuries patched up with much worse than a dirty kitchen towel, some people coming to her with bug filled wounds and mud masks to preserve aliments just long enough to see a doctor. 

Handing over the clean bandages, Genevieve took his bloody towel as soon as her gloves were secured, “Hope it’s alright if I dispose of this? Blood doesn’t really come out of anything..” She tossed the fabric in a medical waste bin, “Is this your dad?” Her head tilted towards the older man sitting in a chair adjacent to the bed, “I’m sure you both were kept waiting for some time, if you’d like – sir,” She spoke to Haven’s father now, “there’s complimentary coffee, tea, and I believe I saw a few muffins, in the lobby.”

Genevieve had treated many a children clutched to their parent’s chests, and by no means did she dislike their presence, but some cases called for bit of privacy. Some cases that involved questioning the cause of their child’s injury. “After we get you all checked out you’re more than welcome to a muffin–” She glanced back at his chart, “–Haven, if your dad will bring ya one back?”

"Keeps the blood out of my eyes." Haven replied, he couldn't stop the bit of attitude, though it wasn't the woman's fault. He didn't like hospitals and was annoyed at the reason why he was there. He took a glance at his dad to see how the man was holding up and got a vague smile in return.

He took the offered clean bandages and held them up to his head in place of the towel, wincing lightly. "Go for it, s'not mine anyway." He snorted lightly. "Yep that's my dad." He said softly, his eyes once more seeking out his father's. He knew he was acting childishly but when it came to hospitals he couldn't help himself. At the nurses next words he felt a faint spike of panic shoot through him and saw the same thing in his dad's face. He forced himself to calm and gave his dad a wan smile. "Tea would lovely." Kent said softly, though his eyes were screaming his dislike of leaving Haven alone.

"Muffin man, bring me some tea as well, will ya?" Haven asked his dad cheekily, trying to cheer the older man up and keep himself calm. "Brat." Kent said affectionately, reaching out to lightly squeeze Haven's knee before he made his way out of the room. "So what's next? Questions about my age? Medical history? Stitches? I'm nineteen by the way, nothing too bad in the medical history that should effect a head injury, and stitches are probably a given." He rambled, trying to cover up how anxious he was a being left alone.

Isaiah raised an eyebrow, confused by the other male’s chirpiness. “You’re in a good mood,” he noted, cocking his head to the side. After knowing him for quite a while now, Isaiah was aware that Haven wasn’t exactly a perky kind of guy, which is why he was usually surprised to see him smiling for more than fifteen minutes at a time. “Please – I’ve got at least fifteen pounds on you. If I was getting beaten to a pulp, you’d be right there with me,” he chuckled, shaking his head.

Haven gave a small nod and shrugged lightly. "Surprises me too. Just been a good week I guess." He chuckled lightly. He forced himself not to think about why he was normally a less than chipper guy. "Hey, I may be scrawny as anything but I'm stronger than I look." Haven gave Isaiah a playful scowl but knew the redhead was probably right.

Isaiah snorted, mimicking Haven and twisting open his own bottle of water before taking a sip. “Well, thanks.” He said, attempting to be polite although he hated the kind gesture. Part of him knew it was just a friend doing a friendly thing – but then, there was that hint of annoyance at the fact that he could have been perceived as not self-sufficent enough to pay for his own drink. Though, he always felt annoyed at that, even when he knew it wasn’t true. “Hey, those people most likely deserved it. Most likely,” He chuckled, shrugging his shoulders. “Alright, alright. I’ll be a good boy and shut up about it.”

Haven smirked lightly and gave a small nod before taking another sip of his drink. "Anytime!" He chirped cheerfully. He was in a surprisingly good mood all things considered. He'd gotten though the month of June without doing anything majorly stupid, just minorly stupid, and now he and his father were talking more and it was nice. "Eh, probably but more than one against one person is not fair odds, which means I would've felt obligated to jump in to make sure they didn't gang up on you and I don't feel like explaining another bruised and cut face to my father." He shrugged lightly with a grin. He chuckled lightly and couldn't resist reaching out to pat Isaiah's shoulder. "Good man!"

Even for a Saturday the emergency room had been unusually busy, as if everyone had decided to fall ill or off their decks all on the very same day. It was nothing though, she recalled, to the seemingly endless lines that formed outside the MSF tents while she was abroad. For miles people would line up in desperate need of medical attention and although they would all leave a little better than when they came in, Genevieve felt like she had been the one helped. Her chest felt warm as she recalled those precious memories, tucking each away as she pulled another chart off the nurses’ desk. 

Back to work.

“Hello!” Gen chirped a greeting from behind the curtain, sliding it open as she continued to introduce herself. “My name is Gen, can you tell me what’s brought you in tonight?”

Haven gave his dad a dirty look as he sat on the bed in the ER. He loathed hospitals and didn't see why his dad couldn't just patch him up at home. "Don't look at me like that, son, we won't be here long." Haven huffed lightly at his dad's words but figured it had to be hard for the older blonde to be here as well. "It's not that bad." He mumbled, still holding a dirty hand towel to his bleeding temple. "Oh no, not at all." Kent said sarcastically, rolling his eyes at his son, causing Haven to scowl at him playfully.

Both men turned when the curtain was slid open and a young woman steeped forward introducing herself. "Hi, I'm Haven. I, uh, I'm sort of bleeding from the head." Haven shrugged halfheartedly, gesturing to the dirty hand towel with his free hand while his father gave him an exasperated look.

Isaiah bit his lip, letting out a small huff as the other male paid for his drink. Great – another reason for him to feel like he owed Haven something. “I had it under control,” he said defensively shoving the wad of cash back in his pocket before taking the water bottle from Haven’s grip. “Plus, I’m a red head, whom are notorious for being feisty. No one would dare try and jump me.”

Haven gave a light huff and rolled his eyes good-naturedly as Isaiah took the water bottle from his hand. "Just tryin' to help out, man." He liked to help people and some times Isaiah struck him as someone who needed someone to be there for him. Not that he thought Isaiah couldn't take of himself, he was just a firm believer that everyone needed someone from time to time, not that he followed that line of thought for himself. He opened his energy drink and took a sip before snorting lightly. "Ah, yeah. I have some experience with redheaded feistiness, but maybe I was trying to save the other person from getting their ass kicked by you?" He joked lightly. He shook his head lightly and ran a hand through his hair. "It was just a bottle of water, don't worry about it."

I’m A Mess // Haven & Juliette

Juliette stiffened as Haven took a step closer. She gripped her mug a little tighter, nervous. She wasn’t quite used to gentle touches anymore, certainly not kisses on her forehead. Ever since her mother’s death Juliette had been a bit starved for human contact. And all her one night stands were rough. Had to be to help her forget. She wasn’t proud of the fact, but such it was. 

Juliette sighed as Haven dashed from the room. “See you around,” she said a bit halfheartedly. She guessed that unless she called it would be awhile until they saw each other. And she wouldn’t call. She was far too proud. After draining her own coffee she collected the mugs. Instead of letting herself think about everything she focused on the tasks in front of her. Haven had been right about that much. Pretending was easier. Less messy anyway. But it was exhausting too. More than admitting the truth.

It was a fair enough question; it just wasn’t one he wanted to answer. I threw it there… that would just open up a whole load of other questions which he didn’t want to answer. “Accidents happen sometimes and the phone was the one that suffered”.

"Huh, well .. poor phone." He snorted lightly. He glanced at the guy once more before giving him a kind smile. "Do you need to borrow a phone?" He pulled his phone out of his pocket and held it up for the guy to see. He would have inquired further about the guy's accident and his phone but it wasn't really any of his business.

“I’ve heard about that movie” Ethan was really far from being a cinephile, his knowledge about movies being really, really low. He had heard of it, but never had the opportunity or interest if he was honest, to watch it. “How long have you been here in Eastbourne?” He wasn’t sure if he had mentioned it before and he felt terrible for not knowing for sure. “He likes to take walks so I run with him every morning before going to work, that helps him stay calmed for the rest of the day” It was one of their routines, to always run together even if it was raining. “That’s something that could happen. I’ve read that they do get along better if they’re both babies and are raised together”

"It's a really good movie. Probably one of my favorites to be honest." Haven smiled. He'd seen the movie more times than he could count and could probably perfectly quote it while watching it if he tried. "Ah, couple of months? Maybe six months, or a little less than that." It had been longer than he thought if he were completely honest with himself, but he did like it here. "Sounds like a nice routine. I'd probably get a dog just to have a running partner, since I can't convince my dad to jog with me." He snorted lightly. "I suppose that's true. Wonder if I can convince Dad that pets are a necessity."

She listed to her words, nodding in agreement “Definitely. I could be greedy and buy more tickets but then I will eventually lose and my hands will be empty, so as my stomach” And Olivia really liked eating sweet things, ice cream being a must in her fridge at all times. “I’m Olivia, I don’t think I’ve met you before? Have I?” She didn’t have the best memory but she was proud of her social skills and was sure that she hadn’t met the man in front of her yet.

"Exactly. Tickets are a risky venture. But ice cream is a totally sure thing." He chuckled lightly. Now Haven was beginning to crave some ice, he glanced up and down the street wondering if there a place nearby that sold ice cream. He gave her a charming little smile and held his hand out to her. "I don't think we have met before. It's a pleasure to meet you Olivia, I'm Haven."

I’m A Mess // Haven & Juliette

Part of Juliette was glad that Haven accept her offer of coffee. She had a sinking feeling that they wouldn’t be seeing each other for awhile after this. They were both too proud, too ashamed of having shown weakness. The thought made her straighten a little. As if being a little more professional would somehow make it easier to watch him go. She sipped her coffee, unsure what to say. At his question though she laughed, softly, wryly. It wasn’t a young person’s laugh. More one born of too much experience. “We know we don’t have to pretend,” she said, still looking down at her coffee, “And not pretending means messy, difficult and exhausted.” Juliette shrugged and glanced back up. 

It was true that everything felt messy around Haven. But everything always felt messy. She just had a better hand on it usually. She was just so exhausted, always pretending. Juliette could only guess that he was too. Really the only surprising part was how quickly she had opened up to him. She wasn’t really big on sharing. It was just pure dumb luck. Or a lack thereof depending on how you looked at it.

Haven slowly sipped his coffee, ignoring how much he'd rather have some tea right now. He couldn't bring himself to look at Juliette, he knew he'd probably avoid the dark haired girl for a while. They'd seen too much of each other, bared their broken parts for each other to see without meaning too. Now all he wanted to do was stitch himself back up again with out her seeing. He suddenly pictured himself as a rag doll with crooked, broken stitches overlapping and let out a harsh snort. "Anyone who says not pretending is easier is a damn moron." He mumbled into his coffee.

He drained the last of his coffee, ignoring the burn of it as he stood up and set the mug on the table by her. He set a gentle hand on her shoulder and pressed a kiss to her temple. "Sorry for being a dick. Thanks for everything." He mumbled into her hair before stepping away. He glanced around to make sure he had everything he needed. "If you need anything call me, any time." He scratched the back of his head briefly before making his way towards the door. "See you around, Jules."

The top two are different views of their living room/Kent’s office area. The middle left is their kitchen, the middle right is their bathroom. The bottom left is Haven’s room (ignore what looks like a bathroom connected to it) and the bottom right is Kent’s bedroom.

How would you classify the place you live? Is it an apartment? House? Condo? I would probably call it an apartment but it also sort of looks like a loft. 

Is it paid off or do you pay a monthly mortgage or rent? If so, how much do you pay? We pay a monthly rent.

Describe the layout and size. How many rooms are there? Floors? It’s an open space apartment for the most part. Two bedrooms and one bathroom, with technically a second floor but it’s just a tiny loft-like area that’s used as an office space for my dad.

Do you have any pets? Currently no, though I’ve been wondering if we should get something.

How long have you been living there, and do you plan on staying long? We’ve been there for a couple of months and as far as I can tell we plan on staying for a while.

Do you have any roommates? I live with my dad so, I suppose you can call him my roommate.

Are you close with your neighbours? Not really. I don’t go out of my way to avoid them and I do help them if they need it but I wouldn’t say I’m close with any of them.

What does your daily routine look like? Do you spend a lot of time at home? Every day I get up early and go for a run and then return home to shower, whether I have to work or not. On the days I work I mostly keep to my room and read or play my guitar and then go to work. On my days off I’ll hang out at home and clean up or watch TV before making dinner for my dad and I. Occasionally I’ll go out and wander around town before work or after work, I also have a tendency to sleep a lot on my days off.

Do you keep your house very tidy, or do you prefer a more relaxed, “lived in” appearance? The majority of our house is clean with everything put away where it belongs, though my room is a bit more “lived in” with books and music sheets scattered around.

Do you usually cook and eat at home or prefer to go for take out instead? It varies. My dad and I will take turns cooking but sometimes we’ll either go out to eat or order in.

Of your belongings, what’s your most treasured item you own? I have quite a few things that would tie as my most treasured item: my guitar, our family photo album and probably the scarf my sister tried to make me during her crocheting phase.

What is your best memory since living there? I’m not sure what my best memory would be, nothing too special has really happened since we’ve moved here. 

What area or room of the house is your favorite and why? My own bedroom because it’s my space or the kitchen because I like to cook.

How would you describe your decorating style? Would you say it accurately reflects your personality? I would say my decorating still is very simple. I don’t like a lot of stuff cluttering around the house, except my bedroom but that’s mostly my books and music that I leave everywhere. I’m not sure if reflects my personality or not.

Is this the place that you can call home? Maybe one day. I do refer to it as “home” but I’m not sure it’ll ever be the same as where I’ve come from.

“Sorry. I’m totally prying, aren’t I? It’s my first week here, and I haven’t exactly gotten the hang of Eastbourne and its townies yet. What do you even call yourself? Eastbournies?” Greta let out a slightly nervous chuckle, which soon turned into a full laugh at his joke. “Forever and always, my babyfaced friend. It’s a true talent of mine.” She waited patiently as he decided on a drink, unable to resist cocking an eyebrow at his request. “Are you sure a glass of milk wouldn’t suit you better?” Greta teased. “Alright, alright. One Jack Daniel’s for the manly man.” The brunette took a whiskey glass and the bottle from the shelf, poured it in, and served it to the kid. “Already drinking to forget something? Or, just trying to take the edge off?”

“It’s all good. I’ve only lived here a couple of months myself, so I wouldn’t exactly call me a townie.” He chuckled lightly. He set a hand on his chest over his heart and gave her a mock wounded look. “And the hits just keep coming. You’re breakin’ my heart, darlin’.” He gave her a playful scowl at her joke and shook his head. “Oi, oi! Watch it you.” He replied playfully. “I’m sensing sarcasm in that manly man comment.” He gave a small shrug and a playful smirk. “I, unfortunately, have to work the night shift at work today and if I am going to be hit on by drunk patrons that think I’m pretty, which I am not, then I need to prepare myself. ”
