Dolores was still in her pajamas when Jun showed up to Castia. Her hair was done, her make up finished but her outfit choice needed to change now that it was snowing.

But Casita had juggled some tiles and Dolores went from looking in her closet to heading toward the door. If it was Jun then she worried why he was here first thing in the morning.

"Hello Love, did you want to come in? I don't want you to get sick."

He blushed, realizing that Lo was in her pajamas. Oh, she looked adorable. He wanted to kiss her right on her forehead and give her a hug.

This felt scandalous to Jun. He should dive into the bushes and freeze there!

He cleared his throat. "Sorry! I just ah--it's snowing!" he declared, waving a hand. "I thought uh... you... you might like a ride to work."

It was snowing, Dolores loved the first snow but there was an ever pressing need to make sure she got to school and then she could enjoy it from her window with a cup of tea.

And if her class begged, maybe they would all sneak outside for a little bit.

It was happening! The snow, the snow-- Jun had woken up, and just as he got into his truck to get to the Moon Market, it had started to snow!

But on a school day?!

Jun probably should just drop the idea of proposing today entirely. It wasn't like he was superstitious when it came to first snows. Obviously, he shouldn't disturb Lo's morning routine. He ought to just get to town and open up the Moon Market and then text Lo about perhaps meeting up for a lovely lunch date or an after-school walk--

Yet, for whatever reason, Jun jerked his wheel to the side and took the road to the Farmlands.

He pulled up at Casita and parked the car, then quickly hurried to the door and knocked, while snow fell on top of his head and shoulders.

"Oh, it's never that late. Really, I think Swynlake is making it earlier and earlier these days," said Jun quickly, happy for an easy conversation segue.

Yes, yes, the magical Swynlake first snow! It was quite the romantic day, wasn't it? Well, it was in Korea too. There was this silly superstition that the person you were with during the first snow was going to be the person you would marry...

...now, wait a moment.

Gah! What was he doing?! He shouldn't propose right now! He should propose at the first snow!

"Annnd here's those pies for you!" said the barista cheerfully as they brought over two slices.

Since Chuseok, Jun had carried his ring to propose to Lo with him everywhere.

It had become a compulsion-- much like checking his wallet six times. Now, when he left the house, his hand shifted into his pocket to feel the velvety texture of the little box. Of course, rationally, carrying around an expensive ring was a stupid thing to do! He could lose it! But ah-- Jun was worried that the right moment was going to come along and he'd be completely unprepared for it. So here he was, carrying the ring around, waiting for the right time...!

Well, that was not entirely true. He needed to plan, yes? Yes! And so that was what he did tonight, when he took Lo out to... Hatter's. Yes, he'd looked at many wonderfully fancy dessert places but one of their first official dates after getting together had been to Hatter's for two for one pie night! And so he this was sentimental, yes? Special...yes?

Jun rubbed his hands against his trousers as they sat down, waiting for the pies.

"So ah-- how was work?" he said. Hopefully, Lo did not notice how nervous he was!

Dolores didn't notice how nervous he was, perhaps she should after all this was the man who was going to be her fiance one day and then soon her husband.

But she was lost in the magic that was the holidays and christmas flavours. And listening to gossip of gifts and who was getting each other what. (Yes some people planned this early and she loved it)

It was a lot of fun.

"Good, everyone in class has started to make bets when they think it will snow. Some as early as November 12 and then all the way to December 24th."

Dolores stuttered.

Now, that was normally Jun's move! It made him pause, turning about three-quarters toward Lo as his lips tugged down. Perhaps this was not small at all. Perhaps this was a rather big thing! Perhaps, Jun had made a mistake. He braced himself like bracing for a punch, expecting criticism just as fierce--

And oh, it was exactly like a punch!

Jun's eyes widened and then he blinked very rapidly as his cheeks colored, red as beets. For that first moment, he was completely speechless! Only the faucet kept babbling on in the background.

"O-oh. Well--"

Was Lo asking him to propose...right now?!

Yah! He didn't have the ring! The ring, the ring!

No, that couldn't be it, could it? This was Lo! She didn't want to be proposed over doing the dishes! Absurd!

"I--I mean, well-- of course, that's-- I want that too," Jun finally said, feeling his ears burn. "A-are you... sure? I thought your mother and brother wouldn't be back until....well, I suppose you have no idea when they'll return..."

Lo could take a breath of relief as Jun also agreed it was what he wanted, she had been pretty sure her original refusal didn't turn him off but they hadn't brought it back up since so who knows. Maybe he didn't want to marry her still.

With that relief evident she smiled brightly at him and nodded once.

"I know and it's sad they won't be here but that's a result of their decision. I don't want that to stop us, I already did once." And honestly these days Lo kind of regretted it. "But I want us. I want everything and that includes facing the not so good parts together, the sad moments, all the moments." Dolores shook her head as her ramble got away from her.

"When you propose next, I'll say yes."

The sarcasm didn't bother Jun at all. He was quite comfortable with that form of humor-- of communication. Really, the Moons in general were well-versed in both sarcasm and passive-aggression. They practiced such languages so diligently as to elevate them to love languages.

He snorted a breath softly, shaking his head-- but of course, Lo did not stop there.

He raised his eyebrows. "Oh? Well, I suppose if it is small enough," Jun said, playing along.

Well this is the point Dolores got nervous. Afterall it wasn't really a small thing. It was their whole life. It was their future.

"Well I was hoping to-" no that didn't work. "It's that-"

Nope. Dolores struggled her face heating up very quickly.

"I'd like you to propose again before that. I want to be engaged to you." She finally managed her voice soft.

Dinner club was great on any week of the year, in soup season when you could try out a new recipe and be guaranteed it would be eaten Dolores was willing to try a whole bunch of new recipes.

This time it was a take on the viral marry me chicken but in soup form and she couldn't help but be pleased with it as some even went back for seconds but now that everyone was milling around she had a secondary goal.

Sliding up to her next target Dolores grinned, "Would you say you're more of a chef or baker?"

Day 21 - Business Savvy Thread

With the farmer's market ending, the best place to get fresh produce was here in the Moon Market. Even if she still felt that persistent itch being inside these days, she did her best to ignore it. These days she was mostly ignored when shew as inside, and that was ho she preferred it.

Meticulously, Jessica began to pick through the onions that were available before moving on to the tomatoes. November promised to be an exhausting month and Penny was growing fast. Jess needed to plan to make some hearty meals that would reheat easily.

She was just reaching for another tomato when her hand bumped someone else's. "My apologies I was just - oh, Lo! It's good to see you. How are you doing?"

Dolores had a long grocery list, it was soup season and she was determined to try out at least two new recipes for the season, which required a surprising amount of ingredients.

But beyond that her basket was full of cookie mixes, sprinkles, A sugar bomb in grocery form. It was an interesting mix.

"Oh hello Jess." Dolores smiled brightly at the other, withdrawing her hand from the tomato. "I'm doing good, preparing for soup season." Lo lifted her basket as if the cookie mixes proved that. "Well that and some other things."

"Oh, sure!" In reality, since she was doing the majority of the work herself and didn't have a lot of commitments outside of that right now, Babette was actually a bit ahead of schedule with her planning, though that didn't stop her worrying.

"I love cookies, so I'm definitly interested." Her penchant for cooking and all things homemaker weren't exactly a secret, of course, so she was a pretty safe bet for this kind of activity. "We might be able to convince a few of them- I bet the lure of only getting to participate in the eating if you participate in the baking will get a few of them, and a basic christmas cookie recipe isn't really too difficult." Babette shuffled through her things for her planner, "what sort of timeline were you thinking? The last few months are filling up pretty quickly for me- probably not a surprise." Cake tasting, dress fittings-- there was a lot. "I could whip up a few batches ahead of time if you decide on a party, too, give people some to decorate while we get together.."

"Maybe early in December? I know everyone is so busy with plans. I'd personally love to do a party, I'd even maybe try to mimic those fancy cake parties that were all over tiktok in the summer but that might be too much." Dolores chuckled at the thought of it, at least she knew her friends and the people in Swynlake wouldn't fight over the dessert like some places did.

"I heard a lot of people do that though. bake and freeze then defrost?"

"Oh no, never too much! Not for Eomma-- especially during Chuseok," said Jun. The water sloshed over his hands as he scrubbed away at the next few dishes. He threw another glance Lo's way. "I'm the fuddy-duddy who gets overwhelmed, not her, eh? She's a star."

If anything, Eomma might give Jun a little thump on the head for not offering to invite the Madrigals sooner!

"But yes, that ought to be... nice, I think. Even if it's a little overwhelming. You know, I can do overwhelming things about once a year. Twice, sometimes, because I like you." He smiled.

Dolores nodded turning to face Jun just to watch his face, if she needed to be worried about him. If it would be too much for him. If he would be stress.

'Twice? Wow, I'm so honoured." it sounded sarcastic but Lo's face had softened as she looked up at Jun with a smile at him so appreciated how much her was willing to get out of his comfort zone.

"I have a small request though before we do that."

Babette nodded, "nothing too intense- and only a little bit. The hall is going to be decorated a bit for the festive season anyway since we're having it in December, so odds are there will already be a little of it and that will have things mesh a little better, I think."

She shrugged, gesturing to a few of the photographs splayed out in the magazines on the table, "they're pretty but.. All a bit neutral for me, anyway. I like bright things- I have a feeling there'll be debate between Will and I about the patterns I might want to wallpaper our bedroom with."

He'd probably let her have free reign for wild patterns in the living room, but she knew he'd much prefer something a bit more tranquil for when he's collapsing into bed at 3am after a long shift."and I don't want things to be too blue- the wedding, not the bedroom."

Dolores laughed but nodded, you couldn't have a holiday wedding without a little Christmas colours. She imagined Jun would be the same way. Neutrals, calm colours. Something that felt warm and homey.

Something that felt cozy to fall asleep to.

"Actually do you have a little bit of time with the wedding planning? I was thinking about starting a cookie exchange or doing a cookie party with some friends. Maybe the others at brunch but I don't think everyone would be into it."

"Ah, well-- that might be true, but you have plenty of big dinners yourself, don't you?" said Jun, glancing to her as he handed her a dish to dry.

That was one thing that the two of them had bonded over. They loved eating, cooking, and sharing those big meals with the people who mattered most. For Lo, that often meant friends as well-- that was why he figured she went to those brunches with those ladies. But most importantly, meals with the family were very important to them both. They'd even talked about making sure their children knew that family dinner was a non-negotiable!

"I'm sure that's what you're thinking of. Ah, next year-- I'll talk to Eomma. I'm sure she'd like to have the rest of your family over too, if they'd like to come."

Dolores nodded, she did but they had felt empty. Charged with something she couldn't let go. Slowly she was realizing she had to let it go. Honestly she was lucky and she knew it. Unlike others, her family was safe and alive.

The mention of next year filled her with some warmth. A lot of happiness, so much love.

It was a future she wanted.

"I'm sure they would love to come. If that's not too much?" Of course there was something else she wanted before that happened too.

"Hm? Which part? The dinner? Oh, I always love the dinner," said Jun and he grinned widely.

He was less inclined to the games-- his sisters and Tae-yah always got into such squabbles! But the dinner was always delicious, and always made Jun feel proud for his part in it.

"What about you, eh? Have any new favourites we should keep in mind? Oh, when you should get a chance, make sure to compliment Judy on the kimchi. She helped me and for some reason she's got no confidence on her cooking skills." He tsked and shook his head.

Dolores nodded at the question and then along with his answer. It made her feel so full of warmth seeing everyone interact. Everyone together.

The games might have been her favourite part to see how little things had changed despite so much having changed.

"I'm not sure about a new favourite. It was just so nice seeing everyone together you know? Made me very nostalgic which I guess is weird considering I've been to only a few of these."

Chuseok was over.

Wasn't it rather a sad thing about holidays, hm? They gathered slowly and took their time approaching, and then, like a great rainstorm, they unleashed all at once! After a week of prepping, all that food and drink was put away safely in their bellies and there would be no more games or songs or calls to distant relatives until next year!

Well, or Christmas. There was always Christmas.

In the aftermath, the kitchen was, of course, a wreck-- but Jun insisted Eomma not lift a finger. Instead, she sat with her daughters and Tae-yah and they were all watching an old favorite movie. Jun headed straight toward the sink. Lo followed after-- he didn't ask her to, and opened his mouth to insist she go back to the living room, but one knowing smile from her and Jun knew better than to argue.

"Oh, fine then! I'll wash, you can dry," said Jun. And with a smile, he handed her one of the dishcloths and turned the faucet on.

Dolores was already pulling up her hair out of her face when Jun walked to the kitchen, he should have known better even without the look. Dolores was happy to help clean up so everyone could continue to rest and enjoy the atmosphere.

"Perfect, I don't know why you even try to convince me otherwise." Dolores teased hip bumping him gently as she took over her spot. "Did you enjoy it?"

It was quite an event to plan- Babette had actually scaled back on her work for the lead up, only minding for families she already had scheduled work with and not taking on any new or last minute jobs- That in itself could be a little strange of a feeling if she lingered on it too long- so she had the time for it, but was a flurry of indecision anyway.

"Mmm, I was thinking abouut something in the frosty pink area-- just a few little flashes in the boquets, maybe- thought it might compliment nicely with the engagement ring." Babette grinned, glancing down at it for a moment as she sipped her latte, "I'm hoping to convince Will into a brown suit anyway, and perhaps a little red in the decor too..." She was a fiend for colour, admittedly.

She plucked a little pastry from the plate and took a bite, careful to avoid getting crumbs on her pages. "I don't want to end up looking too washed out, you know?"

Dolores melted at the thought the colours would be beautiful together and a part of her thought of her own ring. Well the one that should be hers.

She could have been here planning her own wedding too.

"How bright of a red are you thinking? Small elements could be nice but red is a hard colour to plan around."
