kinda funny that steve rogers, a chronically ill son of first gen immigrants, was raised by a single mom in brooklyn into an anti fascist progressive man who stood up everyday against oppressors. and that cap 2 was about an AI surveillance state & how easily the government could be corrupted/compromised. and that cap 3 was about accords that would strip enhanced individuals of their autonomy and turn them into pawns/breathing weapons & a tortured POW who was villainized. and how in infinity war steve rogers had become a world wide fugitive doing what he thought was right even if it wasn’t legal.

and then endgame said well on that note, we’re sending him back in time to 1950s (the decade epitomes w trad values and when there was still segregation) and he wouldn’t do anything about social issues or hydra or his best friend being brainwashed bc he deserved to rest <3

Okay it might be time to do a full rewatch of this movie because the "nearly 6 months out from Doomsday, time to be obsessed with these dorks again" brainrot is setting in, but more needs to be said about how brilliant Lewis Pullman's performance is because his micro expressions in the Sentry scene are destroying me

Yelena starts going on about how he should leave Val and how this isn't him because she knows him, and you can see the pain and sadness in Bob's eyes before he even responds to her. He looks

a) confused that anyone, let alone Yelena (aka the person he looks up to the most at this point) actually seems to both like him and care about him

b) sorry for her that she cares about a loser like him because she deserves better

c) angry at himself for being such a loser and dragging Yelena and everybody else into his mess

d) resigned to the "fact" that he's broken and unlovable and not worth it and everybody would be better off not getting involved with him because he's only capable of hurting the people he cares about

His whole self-narrative plays out in his eyes in just a matter of seconds and it's not only a phenomenal piece of nonverbal acting but also just devastating to watch. You can tell how much Bob still hates himself underneath the facade and that adopting the Sentry persona hasn't done anything to heal him ☹️

Bonus: Yelena just wanting to help him but having absolutely no idea how to respond to the situation (ft. Bucky in the background probably reliving his trauma because he used to be Bob and he knows exactly what that self-loathing feels like)
