Short One-Shot under the cut
May 1st, the day to flaunt your future plans to your fellow high school seniors. Everyone has a tee of the university, trade school, company, or whatever represents their plans after high school. Hayden bought a nearly plain white tee on her lone visit out to the east coast. A small logo of Northeastern sits on the top corner on the front with the Husky on display on the back. She knew her choice of a school on the literal other side of the country was bound to draw interest since she’s one of the few leaving California. She already knew Mason Corey and Liam got into UCLA so she was the odd man out. But right after first period, as Hayden is throwing her English book back into her locker, she feels a familiar energy around her. She peeks her head over and Corey is dramatically leaning against a closed locker. He’s got on his matching sweater that he and Mason got at their visit.
“Sooooo… have you seen your twin yet?”
Hayden feels herself tilt her head as she racks her brain for what Corey is talking about. Confused with no idea of Corey’s train of thought, she asks, “What kind of twin?”
“Oh you know.” Hayden starts to roll her eyes at his comment, but she sees Corey pointing to Hayden’s Northeastern t-shirt.
“What? Somebody else is wearing a Northeastern shirt? You’re sure it wasn’t a Northwestern one?”
“Nope. Saw it with my own eyes. Had the word ‘East’ on it.” Corey is shaking his head, both at her big reaction and confirming that someone else at Beacon Hills is going with Hayden.
“No way! Who!?”
Hayden whips around to the colorful and crowded hallway, trying to analyze through the sea of college tee shirts and sweatshirts in the senior hallway. People are walking and talking and there are too many for her to properly see how is supposedly going to Northeastern with her. Finding nobody around them that matches Corey’s description, she turns back to demand to know, but no one is there. She curses him out under her breath and goes on to her next class, observing as many people as she can.
Between the rest of her morning classes, she desperately searched for her ‘supposed’ twin, but continued to come up short. She started wondering if she accidentally pissed off Corey recently and he was getting back at her.
But on route to the lunch room, eagerly following the smell of pizza, she hears down the hallway, “Oh my god, no way.”
Hayden knew she wouldn’t be able to hear the muttered words without her powers, so she tries to act nonchalant as she turns her head to a familiar voice. A slight head tilt shows a finger directly pointed to Hayden.
Gwen is standing ten feet away with her arm outstretched forward, mouth agape. Hayden turns her attention away from Gwen’s shocked expression to finally notice the shirt Gwen has on. It is not the white tee Hayden has, but the word Northeastern is bold across the shirt. It’s a bright red, nearly a warning to stop Hayden from gawking at Gwen’s chest, but Hayden is truly speechless. When she got accepted to Northeastern, she knew she was going across the country all alone. But since her sister promised to transfer out to ‘some normal-ass Massachusetts town’, Hayden made peace with leaving all of Beacon Hills for the next four years.
Gwen’s t-shirt is writing a completely different story from what Hayden was telling herself. Hayden finally hears the sound of Gwen’s voice above the hustle and bustle of the high school hallway.
“You’re going to Boston too?”
Hayden takes a couple steps towards Gwen so her response is actually heard. “Yeah, I-I got in for Bio and Environmental Sciences.”
Gwen immediately puts her hands on Hayden’s biceps and starts shaking her. There’s a big smile on Gwen’s face as she excitedly babbles, “We have got to do this together. All of my friends have matching buddies and I was praying to find someone else. Now I have another Husky!”
Hayden can’t help her own smile as she feels it sink in that her narrative of travel alone to unmarked territory has company now. Hayden almost feels grounded by Gwen’s grasp on her biceps, letting herself feel more excitement than stress about leaving. She tries to find the right words as she says,
“Yeah, I was drowning in housing choices and class choices. And now I can gossip about supernatural stuff with somebody in the know.”
Gwen lets go of Hayden’s arms, but just to hook her elbow around Hayden’s. Gwen takes a step towards the cafeteria and Hayden finds herself walking in step with her. Gwen keeps talking about their new school. School books, furniture, flights, study materials, parties. Hayden wonders how much craziness they could get up to together. She turns her head away from watching where they are walking, and spends a moment focuses on Gwen. Her curly hair is a loose bun, pulled together by a red hair tie. The red Northwestern tee Gwen has is matched with a beautiful red gloss that magnifies the slight smile between Gwen’s words. The future is completely unknown to Hayden, but she hopes there is a lot of a red surrounding her.

hayden & gwen: romantic. i do really really love gwayden- i think that gwen and hayden could reconnect and eventually fall in love after s6b. slow slow slow burn because my girl hayden is in a river in egypt, but eventually they work it out. random hc but they're both thrill-seekers, so you bet they'll be doing illegal shit (and rollercoasters) together. also they're stubborn, especially when it comes to each other, which definitely leads to everyone just begging them to get their shit together. friends to lovers type of situation. gwen pines over hayden thinking she's straight, realizing that the only way she'll be able to be close to the girl she loves is if they're just friends. what she doesn't count on is being hayden's gay awakening lmao. they're so messy and complicated but they love each other, and hayden realizes thats all thats ever going to matter. she won't get another chance. anyway ive talked a lot about what i think of their dynamic before but put simply, theyre lesbians <3
One of Tracy's hidden talents was poetry, she was exceptional when writing poems or letters in general. Sometimes she just wrote as a way to pass time, as a way to express herself, and she used the second reason as an excuse to write countless letters from her wonderful girlfriend, Hayden.
It was going to be their first Valentine's Day spent together, as much as others made big plans, both of them favored to not have anything big or fancy for their day, so they rejected party invites and perhaps cancelled a dinner reservation. But it proved to be less of a hassle anyway. Tracy stood in front of the Romero household, she was always welcome in their home, Hayden's older sister didn't suspect anything until it came to Dunbar or anybody else in general. Tracy adjusted her semi-curled brown locks and the pink rose tucked in over her ear before ringing the doorbell.
Waiting until Hayden opened the door with a wide, dimpled smile on her face, Tracy loved the way her cheekbones were accentuated by her smile. "Tracy!" She greeted before letting her inside. "Hey, you look really pretty in pink." She checked her out, noticing the light pink sweater, hanging off of her shoulder on one side. "You look even better in with that flower in your hair." She chuckled in return and guided her inside, shutting the door again and leading her up the stairs quickly in excitement
"Okay, you gotta cover your eyes." Hayden stood in front of her shut bedroom door. "Do I have to?" Hayden rolled her eyes. "Yes, just close them then! Come on." She squeezed her hands, waiting until Tracy finished sighing and closed her eyes as requested. The wolf whispered an 'okay' and opened the door, carefully helping her inside before situating her in the room, beside the bed.
Hayden shut the door before returning, "Alright, open your eyes." And so she did, leaving her surprised with her red lips parted. All thanks to the sight of two bouquets of pink and red colored roses, matching them. "I uh, went a little overboard, but I know how much you like flowers and rarely get them." She recalled from her memory of all the times Tracy would admire flowers in the flower shops and listed her favorites, but that didn't matter now when Tracy gently picked up one of the bouquets.
"Oh... this is very sweet, Hayden." She responded, no witty comeback, just pure awe, mixed into love for the brunette, who smiled wide and hugged her from behind. "Really? I'm glad you like them. We can use them for crowns or dry them... whatever you wanna do." She shrugged and pressed a kiss on her cheek, staining the skin with her barely-tinted lipgloss before wiping it away with a giggle.
Tracy slowly smiled, turning to look at her, "Drying them would be better, preserve the petals." She responded, leaning in for a soft kiss on the lips which Hayden happily met halfway, staining her own lips with Tracy's red lipstick. "Um, I did bring gifts. Mainly these." Tracy gently put down the roses and took out the countless white letters from her shoulder bag, all with kiss marks on them, many swatches of her lipstick went into the making of these letters.
Hayden raised her eyebrows with a small gasp, "Really? Oh, I'd love to read them! You always write so beautifully." She complimented, couldn't hold back since today was a day to shower each other with love.
Hayden noticed Gwen when she went to Liam’s games because Gwen was the only girl on the team, at first it’s because Feminism (TM) then it’s because it’s Gwen (also TM)
Phoebe definitely told Gwen all about Hayden, and at first she was like 'what's the big deal?', but when when Gwen did see the girl and all her confidence, she most definitely developed a little crush, which she tried to push aside in the whole Ghost Riders debacle
Hayden confesses first, asking to take Gwen on a date. And they end the date with a goodnight kiss
There's definitely a lot of jersey trading and Gwen wear Hayden's sport jackets multiple times to school
Gwen gets really passive-aggressive with anyone who tries to flirt with Hayden. Hayden doesn't get jealous much, she's pretty entertained by her girlfriend's biting remarks to ward off other potential suitors. But when Hayden gets jealous, she's just straight up aggressive (cue her attitude to Theo in s6 before her departure from the show)
Gwen braids Hayden's hair sometimes for her football matches like she does for herself at lacrosse practice, instead of just letting Hayden throw it into a ponytail everytime

personally, i think hayden puts on a tough front but she’s at her core a huge softie. like, at the start of her introduction, she really made a show about how she’ll make liam’s life hell, but that pretty much stops as soon as he genuinely apologised to her once.
which honestly, i think she shares this trait with gwen, and that’s partly why she seems to attached herself to gwen so quickly. like she saw that gwen’s putting up this front of being hostile with people who want to help her because she’s scared and don’t know who to trust, like hayden when she was first turned into a chimera in s5.
and she has a pretty strong sense of debt/repayment. what i mean by that is: even when she’s with the chimera pack, it’s because she thought she owes theo sth, so she has to repay that. she also works at sinema, a place that hires her illegally and is probably dangerous for her to work at, because she wants to help her sister with medical bills, which she most definitely feels she have to help valerie with because she has burdened her in a way.

she’s the fastest one in the mccall pack due to her being half-cheetah when she’s a chimera
she’s bisexual and has wildly different flirting style with men and women (see: liam and gwen), it’s either agressive and confident or ‘let’s shoot her puppy eyes, follow her around like a lost pup and hope for the best’
