an overdue visit || russo sisters.

Peyton had tried for years to get her little sister to quit smoking, so she was a little disappointed to see that she hadn’t done that yet – she wasn’t going to dwell on it though, the important thing was that Haylee was still alive and well. Hearing her younger sister admit that smoking wasn’t the only thing that calmed her down, Peyton rose a brow and watched as she pulled the song book from her lap. “Are you kidding? Music is what we Russo sisters know best.” Peyton admitted with a smile as she reached for the book. “May I?”
There was absolutely no way in hell that Haylee would ever stop smoking at this point in time. She knew she was getting addicted, but of course, the girl didn’t want to admit that for herself, so she continued to do it until she didn’t feel anything anymore. When she handed over the book to her sister, she softly pulled a smile and said, “Right... I thought this entire time music was just for you and Sydney... turns out it really does run in the whole family.” Haylee then nodded her head, “Go for it, shoot.”

Peyton had to admit that she expected her sister to look a lot worse than she did – not that she was complaining of course. She was glad that even though she was stuck in this hell hole, Haylee had made a point to take care of herself. Peyton had been in this position before, and it was so easy to lose that ambition. “I think so.” Peyton agreed with a nod as she looked at the younger brunette. “Still haven’t quit that nasty habit, I see?” She asked softly.
Haylee was lucky that over the years she didn’t end up looking like a trashed hobo, even though she would’ve expected that a long time ago. Smoking a pack to two a day and having her hair as a complete mess every day got about 50% of the look through. When Peyton mentioned that she hadn’t quit smoking yet, Haylee rolled her eyes and said, “Well... no. It calms me down.” She then took a deep breath and said, “Truthfully, that’s not the only thing that calms me down.” She then put a journal in front of Peyton and said, “My song book. I didn’t want to tell you because... I didn’t want you to think this was cliche of me to follow in this path.”

Peyton had never expected Haylee to actually agree to see her, so when she did, she knew that she couldn’t pass up the opportunity. She figured that Haylee would have found yet another excuse and cancelled on her last minute, but when she didnt, Peyton took advantage of it. Though if she’d known how nervous she was going to be, she might have backed out herself. Hearing Haylee tell her not to cry, Peyton just laughed softly and shook her head. “You know me – always a crier.” She joked before nodding and sitting down across from her sister. “You uh – you look good, Hales.” The brunette finally uttered after a few minutes of silence.
Haylee had nerves running all over the place and was really scared about what Peyton’s initial reaction would be. All she wanted was to be told that she looked great and that she wasn’t too much of a sad sack. Haylee didn’t intend to cancel last minute considering that she did truly want the singer to visit her. Nobody else visited the younger Russo sister, so she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have a visitor for her own advantage. When she saw Peyton, she nodded her head and said, “Yeah I knew I was going to expect that bit.” Once the two sat down, Haylee took a pack of her cigarettes out of her pocket and set one on her lap trying to find a new one to use. “You think so? Have to admit, I always thought there was at least one good looking side to me.”

The longer that Peyton sat in the room waiting for her little sister, the heavier the weight of the situation grew on her. Each second that passed by only made Peyton’s nerves that much stronger. She hadn’t seen her little sister in over five years – how much had changed since then? Did she look more like Peyton now that she was older? Maybe she looked more like Sydney? Did her voice sound the same in person as it did on the phone? There were a dozen questions that rang through Peyton’s head as she waited – but all of those thoughts were quickly put to rest when Haylee walked into the room. Hearing the familiar voice from the phone, Peyton’s eyes quickly shot up and couldn’t help but fill with tears as she spotted her little sister. “Oh my God..” She muttered, placing a hand over her mouth. “H-hi..”
Haylee didn’t expect to actually agree to something as overwhelming as this meet up with her older sister. She hadn’t seen Peyton in five years and had always been one to not care if she would ever encounter her ever again. This time, things were different. She was trying her absolute best to change for the better, but it was a real struggle for the young brunette. Being a part of a famous family was already an overwhelming fact about Haylee and she was afraid of being judged and labeled according to sources. Walking through the doors, she noticed Peyton getting emotional about her appearance. “Hey, no need to cry. It’s only me,” Haylee said with a chuckle. She wasn’t as sensitive or emotional as Peyton seemed to be so she continued to walk. “It’s uh... nice to see you again,” she said as she moved a strand of hair away from her face. “Come, sit down,” she said as she offered Peyton the chair across from her own.
an overdue visit || russo sisters.
It had been three days since Peyton had promised her little sister that she would come and visit and now that she had a day off from the show on Broadway, she was going to keep that promise. It had been years since Peyton had seen her little sister in person and to say that she was nervous would be an understatement. She had just driven a number of hours to the ward where Haylee was residing and now she stood outside the large building nearly shaking in her heels. “Come on Peyton, get a hold of yourself. She’s your sister for God’s sake.” The brunette muttered to herself before taking a deep breath and walking inside the ward. She walked up to the front desk and informed the woman there that she was here to visit her sister and she was directed to the common room where it was now time to play the waiting game. Peyton sighed softly and chewed on her finger as she just stared at the door, waiting for Haylee to walk through.

Three long days had passed by and the youngest Russo sister had to admit, she was really nervous about her encounter with her older sister. Considering she hadn’t seen the singer in five years, Haylee was scared that she’d think of her differently. She had pushed back so many visitations afraid of what Peyton would think of her trashy wrecked younger sister and if people were ever going to be judgmental about that. It was Haylee’s worst fear, but she knew she had to get over it eventually. Sitting in her room about two hours after her lunch period, she smoked a cigarette while she was playing her guitar. Haylee had been hiding the fact that she could sing and could put potential to be famous, but the thought of fame scared her. As she was playing, the staff attendant knocked on her door. “Haylee Russo, you have a visitor in the common room,” she called out. The young brunette sighed and said, “Okay, okay, coming.” Walking out of her room with her cigarette in her hand, she walked into the common room and widened her eyes to see her older sister. “H--Hi..” she said nervously trying to develop some form of excitement.
call || baby sister.
Peyton: smiled softly at her sisters words. She was going to drag the conversation on for as long as she could, but just as she was about to speak again, Peyton heard someone calling her from the other side of the theatre. "Shit." She muttered softly. "Hey Hales, I gotta go. Apparently it's showtime." She said softly. "But I'll see you this weekend, yeah? I love you."
Haylee: took the last drag of her cigarette and put the phone down for a little bit as she lit up a new one and started to smoke again. She then picked up the phone hearing her sister say she had to go. "Fuck, seriously? Already? Damn, okay. Go ahead and do your show. It's almost dinner time here anyways," she said. "Yeah you will! I.." she paused. "I... love you too."
call || baby sister.
Peyton: liked hearing even the tiniest bit of positivity from her little sister. She often feared that she would never see that in her again, and it worried her. Haylee deserved all the happiness in the world. "I know Hales, I know." She said with a sigh. "But you know you always have me right? I'm /never/ leaving you. Ever." She promised softly. "Yeah yeah, I know. This weekend though, I promise I'll be there."
Haylee: had to admit that this feeling was really putting a positive vibe inside her, something she hadn't felt in what seemed like years upon years. Haylee nodded her head on the other line even though Peyton couldn't see her. "Yeah, I know that. I've taken that for granted for years... but I appreciate it really. Like I said, you're all I have for family. This weekend? Sounds good."
call || baby sister.
Peyton: smiled softly when she heard her little sister giggle. That was a sound she hadn't heard from Haylee in quite some time. It was a sound that she missed. Once Haylee told her that she could visit any time, Peyton smiled and nodded. "I'll be sure to do that very soon then." She said with a smile. "Probably not today because it's getting late, but."
Haylee: had to admit, that not being in such a shitty mood at the moment felt really great. Hearing her sister talk on the phone made her receive hope and positive vibes that one day she would have the same knd of attention Peyton was receiving now. "Good. Because you know... it's been a while. You're the only family I have left now," she said. "Right, right. They close visiting hours at ten. You know that already."
call || baby sister.
Peyton: listened to her sister ramble and just smiled softly to herself, shaking her head. "You never make any sense." The elder Russo teased softly, giggling slightly. Peyton grew silent and hesitant for a second when Haylee asked if she wanted to come and visit her. After a second of silence, the brunette smiled softly and nodded even though her sister couldn't see her. "I would /love/ to come visit you, Hales. When should I be there?" She asked softly.
Haylee: couldn't help but giggle at Peyton's comment, something she rarely did when she'd talk to her sister. "You're right, I really don't," she joked back. She knew Peyton wouldn't answer right away, so she gave the singer time before she officially answered her with a yes. "Come anytime you want. Just go up to the front desk and they'll direct you to the visiting area and they'll call me down from my room."
call || baby sister.
Peyton: sighed softly but then let a small smile fall to her face when her sister mentioned saving her voice. "You mean that voice of yours can do something more useful than scream at useless people and demand things?" She teased, 100%. The smile quickly fell though, when Haylee claimed to be a fuck up. "Hales, you're not a fuck up, okay? If you were, I wouldn't waste my time with you." She admitted softly. "Besides, /me/ of all people has /no/ room to talk. Look at all the shit I've done. You're no worse than me." She promised sweetly.
Haylee: was a little hesitant to mention the fact that she could sing like Peyton. She had wanted to share that with her so badly, but she was afraid to steal her sister's spotlight. "Well... kinda. I mean... it does that... and actually use a normal tone... stop me if I don't make any sense," Haylee said as she felt herself blush. Hearing that Peyton said that she was not a fuck up, Haylee had to admit, she felt a little bit better. It was nice to hear it from her sister's voice, but she wanted something else. "I know this is weird of me asking you this, but... i-if you want to... d-do you wanna come visit me..? I'm not gonna give you some bogus time limit this time."
call || baby sister.
Peyton: didn't always think when she talked to her little sister. She sometimes forgot that she had to be more sensitive on certain topics with her than she did most people she talked to. "Well we certainly don't want you ending up there, do we?" She asked with a small laugh, trying to lighten the mood of her sister. She knew that it probably wouldn't help, but she had to try. When her sister mentioned all of the /good/ things that Peyton had in her life, the pop star clammed up. She didn't agree that her life was /amazing/, but she also didn't feel like arguing. "You're right." Was all she said, dryness in her tone. "Sorry for once again making the world about me."
Haylee: was sick and tired of everything around her that she would always make the same mistake over and over again with slipping up on positive remarks. She smiled softly before taking another drag of her cigarette saying, "Yeah, no. I'd rather save my voice for something useful." She didn't know exactly what use she'd have it for, but she did keep a secret from Peyton. She knew how to sing as well, and playing the guitar used in one of the common rooms at the ward was one of her favorite ways to calm down. Noah had taught her that, and every time she'd strum a note, she'd think of him. Swallowing at her sister's dry tone, she stopped speaking for a moment and said, "No. Don't be." Laying down on her bed, she said, "You were excited... and I'm the fuck up in every positive scenario you bring up."
