“Hmm, I doubt it sometimes,” he laughed a little. “There’s just something about him… I don’t trust and no one else sees it,” he sighed. “Sorry about the ranting and sorry about your Buffy.”

“Because you are friends with a lot of females who all find him... charming.” She laughed to herself. Although she knew his discomfort stemmed from his relationship with Penny. “You should be. Buffy is an icon. But the ranting is fine.”

“No, I don’t think I do. I feel like people in this family like him more than me,” he half laughed. “Do people still watch Buffy?”

“You know that isn’t true, you’re my new brother. I like you a lot. It’s just a weird thing i have with him.” She scratched the back of her head. “Don’t you insult buffy when i’m doing you a solid.”

“Why does his name come up in every conversation?” he half laughed. “No, I’m just… I need some help. But yeah? You’re sure?”

“I have an answer but you won’t want to hear it.” She laughed, reaching for a glass. She faked a sigh as she spoke. “Well.... I did have a really hot Buffy marathon planned. But i guess it can wait.”

“You don’t know anyone who wants a bar job do you?” the wolf half laughed, rubbing his head.

“Are you trying to stop me working for Cailan?” She tilted her head, smiling slightly. “I would love to take some shifts for you Ger.”

Holden let out a laugh, unable not to show his amusement. “Yes, yes. Very much. Exactly what I was after.”

“Ah damn and there i was thinking maybe you wanted my phone number.” She pouted.

“It should that was my intention,” he grinned, his eyes glancing her for a moment when she called him attractive. “Thank you, I think you’re a beautiful girl. So yes, it would boost my ego if you laughed.”

Hazel laughed, rubbing her lips together. She laughed, flicking her hair. “Did that satisfy your male ego?”

“I mean, not that one in particular. I alternate my jokes,” he laughed. “Wasn’t even a little bit funny?” he asked, holding his fingers up to gesture to the small size.

“That makes me feel special.” She put her hand over her heart, nursing her drink as she spoke. “You’re an attractive guy , would you like me to pretend to laugh?”

“Here, here, I’ve got one for you. Okay,” he pretended to clear his throat as he prepared to tell his joke. “The past, the present and the future all walked into a bar. It was tense,” the male grinned, hitting his hands against the table.

Hazel raised her brows shaking her head at the stranger’s joke. “That... is actually awful. Do you try that with all the girls?”

“Well, remember you’re not alone, kiddo,” he smiled gently, sliding a drink to his younger sister. “It’s not pathetic to care about someone. You could. go check on him.”

Hazel couldn’t help but smile at his words, her arms folding. “i know that... i have you.” She picked the drink up, she wasn’t sure how this unlikely family had come together but she liked it. “You think he’d like that? What if Aria is with him?”

Beth looked up when she touched her shoulder, nodding. “I… yeah. I think so. Maybe I’m just being paranoid.” She paused. “I used to have these dreams, before I died… they’ve started again.” She shook her head. “But I am totally fine.”

She nodded. “maybe they’re just the same thing then. Not everything changes when you become a vampire right? You’re just you. You’re Beth.” She half smiled. “You don’t mind me saying... i feel like you still struggle.”

Gerry nodded gently, realising how much their smiles were similar. “You’re relate to me and you’re in this town. It’s complicated,” he laughed a little. “He did… because he has feelings for you. He worried. Like Penny does for me.”

“I feel complicated.” She sighed. “Do you think he really does? I feel like he really does. He makes me smile... i hope he’s okay. God, i’m pathetic.”

Gerry gave the girl a slight smile, she had a way of making him feel better already. “If we… ran from everything that was a little complicated. We’d never do anything.” He nodded. “Yeah? The guy did that? Penny doesn’t relax on full moons.”

Hazel tucked her hair behind her ear, smiling when he did. “I guess you’re right there, my whole life is complicated.” She paused, considering that theory for a minute. “he did... i can’t believe he did. But when i said it was my first one here he got really worried.”

“No, you have feelings for a boy,” he teased lightly. “Caring a little is a good start. No, no, you can tell me anything. We all have our things.”

Hazel smiled, glad to see Gerry distracted even if it was only for a few moments. “I don’t know... he’s complicated and we barely dated. But he... stayed up all night on the full moon. To make sure i was safe... i’ve never had that before.”

“No, no, I get it, it’s a real thing feeling like that,” he said gently, squeezing her shoulder. “Well, I would say… that little emotion you just felt means you care.”

“I’m insane.” She laughed, smiling over at her brother. “I care a little... i’m sorry this was your moment to stress. I didn’t mean to take it over with talks of my crush.”

Gerry nodded slowly. “Were… I think. They did the casual thing. Though she told me she didn’t like him like she should,” he told her, remembering a conversation with Aria. “Drama… comes with people you care about.”

Hazel nodded, taking a deep breath. “Okay, sorry... the green monster came out in me there. I didn’t even know it was there... we haven’t even kissed.” She half smiled. “Do you think i care yet?”

Gerry’s eyes watched her sister, seeing her take it all in. “Yeah, yeah… Cailan. I think… he’s in shock. Maybe he needs you. Um… has he told you about the memory loss necklace? That… absorbed the power. Penny spoke to him. She’s alive… human.”

Hazel rubbed her lips together. “Oh... is he... close to this girl?” SHe asked, she knew this wasn’t the biggest deal right now... but it was to her. “That’s... a lot of drama i wasn’t expecting.”

Beth sighed, nodding, the girl’s words snapping her from her daze. She was doing it again… like the dreams. “I… yeah. Sorry. Maybe I was imagining it.” She paused. “I died in a fire.”

Hazel glanced towards the vampire, she was fond of the girl that had given her a lift into town. “Okay...Are you okay? You seem a little jumpy?” She reached out and touched his shoulder.
