This spectacular new species of katydid (Eulophophyllum kirki) was discovered in 2016 while researchers were looking for tarantulas and snakes in Borneo.

Things I’ve gotten free in the past week from the Berlin free your stuff Facebook group: - 40 L hiking backpack that just needs a few small repairs - Food processor/blender combo - An epilator (which is great because I wasn’t planning on buying razors anyways- also it didn’t result in any ingrown hairs on my legs, which is really crazy ^^ still not removing hair from my arm pits though, I like how it looks >.<) - A ~fUnKy~ rug with weird looking owls from IKEA (Mariah, if you read this: O_O *x files theme*) - a cloth covered thing to put clothes in for my new roommate, since he moved into my old room, which is much smaller >.< So he’ll need all of the organizational things he can get - a watercolor paint set, clipboards (for fieldwork on field trips ^_^) and a book full of photographs I plan on using as a reference for drawings or to cut apart to use as part of surrealistic collages I would love to find a projector now :X But it’s kind of a lot to ask for >.< I don’t even want it for watching movies or something, I want it because it’s beautiful the way the light catches in smoke and on people’s skin and I want to use it to take reference pictures for drawings..

Is it just me or is the “body positive” movement not working? Like at all?

Other people have said this before/better, but the problem was presenting all women as beautiful as opposed to eliminating the need for women to be beautiful

It’s not working because the focus is STILL on trying to view yourself as attractive no matter how you look, instead of (as stated above) eliminating the need to feel “attractive.“

The body positive movement SHOULD be focused on bodily autonomy and taking care of your health. The best way to be “positive” toward your body is to treat it well, not by repeating some “I am beautiful” mantra over and over. You don’t have to be pretty. You don’t have to see yourself as pretty. Others don’t have to see you as pretty. PRETTY IS NOT IMPORTANT. Pretty is not your worth. You exist for you, not for anyone else’s gaze.

Capitalism is so fucking evil. I’m watching videos of the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill in preparation for a presentation on anthropogenic interactions with periglacial processes and human society is so toxic. I’m realizing sometimes it’s hard to study because of how depressing and astonishing the things I learn and the topics I immerse myself in everyday are.

So uhh, something that kind of proves I’m changing to fit Berlin more... I told an old woman to go fuck herself today because she scolded me for riding my bike on the sidewalk (which I ONLY did out of safety reasons- when I had been on the road literally 20 seconds earlier I almost got hit by a car going in the opposite direction because the street was so narrow). Getting scolded by an old person while biking somewhere happens EVERY time I’m in Wilmersdorf. Zum Glück passiert das nie bei mir in Neukölln.. Jedesmal bin ich total genervt. Also bitte, warum geht es den an, wenn ich den mit dem Fahrrad nicht entgegen stoße?  Just a clear example of parts of German culture which I refuse to make into part of my being: Following rules just because they’re rules. I do what makes sense, even if it’s slightly illegal. And then parts of *Berlin culture* that I’ve drawn from: Being direct in a way that’s totally rude and actually quite awful under normal circumstances (So many experiences of people being rude to me for the smallest of reasons- it makes you grow a  t h i c k  s k i n)
