Dad
Dad woke up early and excitedly went to the bathroom. He hummed while he took a bath; he smiled while he combed his hair. He rummaged over his closet and searched for his best shirt and favorite pair of pants. After inspecting himself in the mirror, he went downstairs and checked his computer that he got 3 years ago so he could talk to his kids who lived far away.Â
No new messages. It said on his email. He refreshed it again and again but nothing. He checked his phone, still nothing. He decided it must be too early and thought the kids must still be busy with work. So he cleaned the whole house and kept himself preoccupied. He cleaned the dishes even when they didn’t needed cleaning. He sprayed the room with air freshener. He even made brownies that he learned through Youtube tutorials.Â
Later that afternoon after continuously doing different activities, he laid down the sofa and soon dozed off. When he woke up, it was already dark out and he couldn’t even see what time it was. He turned the lights on and saw that it was already 11:59 p.m. He checked his emails and his phone but there wasn’t anything from his children there.Â
“It’s only been a year...maybe next year they’ll remember.” He said as he slowly went upstairs.Â
