ABOUT
Hunter's life hadn't had the easiest of starts. He was born to a woman who'd had an affair with her boss — an affair that his father had planned on keeping secret. Although, his mother had been handed a check with the intention that she would get rid of his baby, she didn't have the heart to go through with an abortion, and instead gave birth to a unhealthy, however unwanted, baby boy. Even with his father's check, his mother knew she couldn't support her baby alone, she feared what would happen if word got out that she'd kept the child, and she knew that he deserved more than what she could give him. With that in mind, she'd already made preparations to have the child adopted by a loving family that she came to know as the Cahallans, with the request that he be named Hunter after one of her favorite authors, Hunter S. Thompson. They graciously agreed.
As Hunter really had no knowledge of his parents at all, he grew up believing that the Cahallans were his real parents. However, Delia and Gerrard began introducing the concept of adoption when he was old enough to understand — as they didn't want to diminish his real parents, or rather parent, from their existence. At first, he was confused, but over time, he grew grateful that his adoptive parents had been honest with them. He'd always had a positive mindset through their parenting, so the initial anger that came with wondering why he had been given up didn't stick around along for long, because he was aware that he was wanted by the Cahallans and that was enough for him — or it should have been. Sometimes he'd catch himself wondering where he came from, who his parents were and if that woman he'd passed on the street was actually his mother. Although, he never voiced this, as he didn't want to upset the Cahallans, who he considered his real parents.
In school, he was a bright kid and was also eager to learn. He excelled at sports mainly, with football being his forte and soon becoming captain. However, he was always mindful of not letting his grades slip, and much to the annoyance of the rest of his team, he'd preach about academic success and encourage them to not rely on football scholarships alone if they wanted to get into a good college.
Leaving high school, he attended Stanford University and majored in Aeronautics and Astronautics, as he had dreamed one day of potentially working for NASA. He had an obsession with space exploration and everything related, which he'd often speak to his friends for hours about if the topic were even mentioned.
Although, his dreams of becoming an aerospace engineer were put on hold indefinitely, as he found himself travelling back to Aurora Bay after receiving a strange letter from someone claiming to know his birth father. He'd told himself that he wasn't curious, he didn't need to know, he had his family and he didn't need anyone else — but he couldn't shake it, he just had to find out who is his father was, and maybe his birth mother along with it.
He moved back to Aurora Bay under the premise that he wanted to be near family, which wasn't a complete lie, and that he'd be taking a gap year before applying to graduate jobs.
That gap year has lasted twelve years, and dreams of NASA have seemingly been forgotten, as he still tried to investigate what that letter had meant and who had sent it. It was his own secret investigation.
It was only natural that lived in Fisher's Cove. However, he hated living alone and has advertised his need for a lodger with rent the cheapest he could make it — as money had never been an issue being a Cahallan.
He took up a job at fire station, working on his athleticism whenever he can to prove himself and make sure he's in his best shape and quality. He takes his job as a firefighter seriously, knowing that sometimes he is all that stands between life and death.
On the side, he also acts as a plumber/handyman and will do odd jobs for residents of the town and those who are in need. He charges minimal fees, because the real payment is the pleasure of helping others, and never wanting someone to go without.
