Basics: This blog is mutual only, selective, and not spoiler-free. I don’t typically tag spoilers, either, so please be mindful of this should you choose to follow. Blah blah standard rp etiquette stuff. Let’s not be terrible to one another.

Do you guys ever think about the popular headcanon that Nagito was, at least in part, still heavily afflicted by Despair in the NWP and that's partly why he was Like That?

At this point in his life , he was doubting if he was even a person .

“ I… believe I was supposed to be 115th , but one died before they could be crowned . ” Noctis started quietly , “ You sound like everyone else I know – that I was picked for a reason . Everyone seems to know that reason , my father , my Advisor and Shield … Luna … ”

Noctis glanced down slightly in thought before looking over at the person nearest him . “ I’m sure , one day , I’ll know that reason to . ” It was quiet small , the smile the young heir let slip onto his lips , but it was a jest of thank you . Noctis didn’t really get to speak [ [ f r e e l y ] ] often , and so when given the chance , it made him fairly happy .

“ Thank you . ”

As soon as the words leave his mouth, Nagito wants to take them back. Surely the Prince will be angry, and rightly so. Who is he to guess at what Gods might have in store? He braces himself for the sting of rejection, but it never comes.

Instead, Noctis smiles.

He's briefly mesmerised, because this never happens. Nagito always has the purest intentions, but even he knows that his execution is...lacking. He's always in the wrong places, always saying the wrong things. He never knew it could feel so nice to be thanked.

❝Ahah, well--if everyone's saying it, then it's probably true. But, I'm glad I could help.❞ Nagito pulls up a seat. Might as well savour this while it lasts - someone will tell soon, anyway. His reputation kind of precedes him. Nagito is known among his peers for being a troublemaker. Disaster follows where he goes, such that even his own family wants nothing to do with him. Once Noctis finds out, he'll run for the hills like the rest of them.

❝I'm probably overstepping my bounds here, but you should try to ignore them.❞ He nods towards the staring stragglers. ❝Most people don't have much conviction in the things they say anyway. Today's tragedy is tomorrow's footnote. As long as you're still doing the right thing, who are they to tell you how to do it?❞
