i default to owain choosing to stop solas but he would be influenced by rook's on whether they should beat his ass or give him a chance at redemption. owain still remembers the solas who got excited talking about the fade, the friend he was up until the events of trespasser. he also believes in varric & varric's hopes to bring solas back from the brink of further pain and loss.

the question is enough to make owain laugh , a gentle huff of a thing as he regards the man, rather, dhampir, in front of him. alucard's arrival in skyhold had been a surprising thing — his magic & sword a saviour in a battle against demons owain hadn't anticipated. a fateful crossing of paths, owain liked to think, despite the circumstance.
"I am the inquisitor. a figurehead. a herald of andraste, the reverred prophet of a god." not by choice, he might add. nothing made your choice disappear quite like the pressure of an entire world's fate. "I fight. I make orders I'm woefully unqualified to make, sign paperwork, and get given too much credit for other people's tireless efforts." a beat of silence and then a smile, chin resting on his fist. "I don't suppose you're in want of a job."

how kind, owain first thinks, how incredibly unfair to you.
"that is a task I wish on no one." and owain smiles, a gentle, sorrowful thing that he hides behind a mouthful of ale. it tastes heavy, the feel of it thick in his mouth, and the mage grimaces. sets the tankard far, far away. the day had been long, frought with battle & its aftermath. it wouldn't do for The Inquisitor to be drunk and miserable where people could see.
gaze lingers on the wooden table. how must hawke look at him, he wonders. with pity? understanding? anger? the last would be easier to deal with. owain forces himself to look up & meet the gaze of a champion. "you spend all your time saving everyone - without a thank you, without reward, only piling onto the endless burden you carry for having a good heart." a champion indeed. or, maybe, that was just hawke. "I wouldn't do you the disservice of adding onto it."
