“Right,” he let out a weak chuckle as he kissed her again lightly before he took a small step back towards the door. “See you.”
“I love you,” she said quietly, smiling at him reassuringly and taking a step back herself. ”I’ll see you soon,” she agreed, nodding.
"I love you," he returned her smile before he finally turned and stepped out of the castle, knowing that if he didn't do it right then he'd be there even longer.

He blushed. “I—I just thought since you had my tie?” he said, really embarrassed. “I love you too,” he told her softly. “I’ll see you soon.”
“Still adjusting to this whole needing you all the time thing,” she told him, biting her lip. She nodded shortly, letting another tear slip down her cheek. ”Really soon,” she agreed, leaning up to kiss him one last time.

She let out a soft, watery chuckle. ”Sounds creepy,” she told him with a sad smile. ”One thing at a time, yeah?” she sighed softly, brushing his hair back gently. ”I love you,” she said softly.
He blushed. "I--I just thought since you had my tie?" he said, really embarrassed. "I love you too," he told her softly. "I'll see you soon."

Chris hung back by the stairs, willing to let them say goodbye as long as they did so quickly. Caroline nodded gently, leaning up to kiss him quickly again, a tear tracking down her cheek. ”I don’t care if I get in trouble,” she whispered. ”I don’t want you to go,” she swallowed hard.
"I know," he told her softly, "but I don't want to cause any trouble to the point where I can't come back to see you," he leaned in to kiss away the tear tenderly. "What if I send you the blanket I've been using on my bed lately? Would it help?"

She leaned into the kiss, her lips working easily against his, her hands resting lightly on his shoulders. She was determined not to cry again. Inevitably, something had to end their kiss, and it was a voice.
Chris had just come up from Slytherin on his way to meet Aislynn to do the rounds for the night. He caught sight of the redhead and her boyfriend in the Entrance Hall and let out a sigh, checking his watch. He wasn’t entirely sure he could let her off without taking points. ”Caroline?” he said, clearing his throat, hesitant to interrupt. Technically it wasn’t curfew yet, but it would be in about five minutes. ”Mason, you’ve gotta go mate, I’m sorry.”
Caroline reluctantly pulled back from Mason, turning to look over her shoulder at Chris. ”Just a second,” she said quietly, turning back to Mason, tears in her eyes. ”Are you going to be warm enough to walk to Hogsmeade in that?” she asked.
Mason nodded in understanding, looking over Caroline's head to Chris. "'course," he told him, respect for the head boy in his voice. He couldn't really think of anyone else he would have rather replaced him. Mason gently rested his forehead against hers, brushing some more of her hair back. "I'll be warm enough," he assured her softly, his hand moving to stroke her cheek. "I'll owl you when I get home, remember? I promise. Now go before you get into trouble, sweetheart," he said, the last sentence a bit strained. He knew she had to go, but it was evident he didn't want her to just as much as he didn't want to leave the castle.

She pulled back to look up at him, her forehead creased. Gently she leaned up and pressed her lips to his, briefly and then again, longing pouring out of her.
He kissed her back both times, resting his hands gently on her back as he kissed her. He wished he could make it somehow easier on her, easier on him.

He rubbed her back, closing his eyes as he let out a shaky breath. “I love you,” he told her again.
“I miss you,” she whispered back. “I always miss you.”
"I miss you too," he whispered.

She clung to him tightly a moment, holding her tears back as she buried her face in his shoulder. It was only a couple of days, she reminded herself. Just a couple of days. She’d be okay.
He rubbed her back, closing his eyes as he let out a shaky breath. "I love you," he told her again.

“Shh,” she let out a broken chuckle. ”Don’t right now, okay?”
"Okay," he whispered, kissing her shoulder as he gave her a gentle squeeze.

“Good,” she said, stepping into him and resting her head on his shoulder. ”I don’t want to let you go yet.”
"To be honest, we don't want to let each other go yet ever," he pointed out as he wrapped her arms around her.

“Don’t go yet,” she said, reaching for his hand.
"I'm not yet," he assured her.

“I love you too,” she said, kissing him again gently. She moved her arms around him again as she did so.
He kissed her back softly and slowly pulled back, giving her a soft, affectionate smile. "I'll see you soon."

“I’ll be there,” she promised.
He nodded. “I’ll owl you the time and place? Or you can always just come to my place ahead of time if you want.”
“I’ll talk to Shacklebolt about it tomorrow,” she said quietly. ”I don’t… I mean, I don’t have class Wednesday morning anyway, so it should be okay.”
"Okay," he said softly, leaning in to kiss her softly. "I love you."

The closer they got to the door, the heavier her heart sank in her chest. “I still don’t want you to go,” she murmured quietly.
“I never want to go,” he told her, looking up at her. “Um… my… my mum’s funeral’s on Wednesday.”
“I’ll be there,” she promised.
He nodded. "I'll owl you the time and place? Or you can always just come to my place ahead of time if you want."

Once they reached the landing, Mason sighed softly, his stride slowing as he got closer to the door.

He grinned. "Definitely aware."
