I love your headcannons especially the ones about Amaya and Janai from tdp. me and my sister have been debating this for a while now and I would like to see your pov on it. how do you think Janai does ksl/asl? she only has 4 fingers. my sister thinks that Xadia and the human kingdoms may come together and create a universal sign language but idk about this. what do you think?

I Defiantly think there would be a form of elf sign language to account for the 4 fingers . Like how American sign is different to English sign. As someone who knows bsl, asl is similar but far Enough away to basically be it’s own language .

But to me janai isn’t trying to make sign accessible to everyone . She learnt sign for the sole purpose of communicating with Amaya who knows ksl. She’d be trying to learn amaya’s language .

In don’t know how they would account for it but ksl with one less finger is possible Because in the show you see kazi communicates with amaya during the interrogation. And they are a elf. So it can be done .

( might be as simple as miming we’re the little finger would be )

And to me amaya wouldn’t budge. She made all the hearing humans in the army learn sign. Why should she change for a elf . If there not speaking the same language as her. That’s what a interpreter is for

(Also in real world Sign is heavily accented . Some signs change depending on the slang you use and how you visualise things . It changes a little depending on the person talking .like a spoken accent. So I feel the one less finger would fall under a accent rather then a new language coz all the grammar / sentence structure/ things that make it a language .would be the same )

So it’ll take some wiggling but I think janai would learn a heavily accented version of ksl that will account for her hands. Coz she’s talking to a person who speaks ksl

Getting fridged

The hero’s girlfriend . Who ends up Getting put in the hospital to get back at the hero.

The hero uses this as motivation to defeat the bad guy and save the city. He’s praised for saving the world and how bad it must have been for him that his girlfriend was put in harms way.

For him.

When she wakes up in the hospital to that news she’s furious.

The hero had effectively saved everyone in the city except for her! HIS GIRLFRIEND ! You think she would be deemed more important then random strangers. But no. The media were upset for HIM not the person who nearly DIED!??

So she dumps his ass. And the Media made her out to be the bad guy AGAIN for upsetting him!

So she starts her own little business. Making herself a NORMAL life . ( a bakery or a music store . Something out the public eye).

But she can’t just leave it there . She becomes a vigilante of sorts. Actually protecting the people that hero’s put in harms way. And giving an option to villains to get out of the situation there stuck in. That doesn't just involve just fighting for a different boss and calling it good now . She hires them in her shop and gives them the peace and safety she didn’t get . And god help whoever try’s to endanger her quiet life .

So I cosplay amay from dragon prince and all day at a con I used the sign name “my wife” for the character janai . Some people asked if there is a new season out. No they held hands in front of the dragon queen that has to count for something

Ursa’s son lee

Ursa coming back to the fire nation after Zuko found her .

she feels uncomfortable about bing part of the royal family again . Giving up her life again. But she wanted to be there for her children who she had no choice but to abandon for so long. But she missed her theatre

she didn’t say anything .

But a month into her stay Zuko comes bursting in to her room in civilian clothes just buzzing with Excited energy .

He had spoken to her new husband and found out that together they ran a theatre troupe in there little town .

With Dancing being made illegal in the capital. The arts had really suffered. So Zuko had organised A abandoned theatre in Caldera city to be revived.

And ursa can have her theatre troop and bring back the arts to the fire nation at the same time . the place was all hers . She didn’t have to give up her passions to be hear.

She cried with joy. overwhelmed at the thoughtfulness of her son who owed her nothing.

She then had to spend the next ten minets assuring the fire lord that he hadn’t done anything wrong .

Zuko listened with wrapped atention as she talked about plans for what her and her husband could do hear. And when she had stuff moved into the theater Zuko poped buy in civilian clothes to help move boxes. Despite incistancs that he didn’t have to .

It was still weird being in the capital. But for the first time she felt that she could make it her home . And it was wonderful getting to know her son. What a wonderful man he had become.

He got on grate with her new husband. It was weird at first. But they bonded over setting up the theatre for Ursa . And though her husband was spooked at the idea of his step son being the firelord. He was still a good kid that deserved a space to be himself when not running a country

Kiyi adored Zuko . Always wanting to talk to her big brother . And Zuko was and amazing big brother . Intrested in all her story’s . They could often be found “ playing firebending” or Zuko carrying her on his sholders wile he pushed crates around ,As casually as If none of this stuff weighed anything.

When the theater was all set up she expected to not see her son for a wile. He was running a country after all. But he was still there . Shore most days he was busy being the sovereign of a country .

But if there was a get in or out he would put it in his diary like any other meating .

sometimes he would just slide in to hang out back stage even if that ment helping with laundry. Followed by one or two kioshi woriors in normal clothes that seemed just as happy as him to be there and help out.

One of them . Suki? Grinned at her when she asked. Telling her that Zuko is a awful workaholic . They made him book out time from being firelord so he could actuly sleep and not do paperwork. But it backfired coz he just comes hear to helped her at the theater . But half the time he spends his time talking to his mum or sister Instead of working so they allowed it .

So life gose on . Months pass. Shows begin and end . And Ursa noticed somthing . With Zuko and his bodyguards in normal clothes no one recognised him. Even with the scar. He’s just ursas kid . He happily responds to Ursa son. And even gave them lee as a name when asked . With a knowing little smirk on his face .

Suki once said that people often think the fire lord is older then he is. So they probibly assume that Zuko/lee is another half siblin. Maybe on the dads side. With a unfortunate scar.

To the cast lee Is just a normal kid. He helps his mum run her business . He helps them learn dance ruteans “ coz it’s like learning firebending forms “(suki Teases him for it relentlessly). There’s even a not so little fan club for him. Coz he’s so awqurd and sweet and is willing to help anyone that needs it , also the little extra that he’s so strong and handsome. ( wither the fan club grew even more when he mentioned he was bisexual is no one’s business)

Someone even made a joke that he should play the fire lord in One of there shows coz he looks so mutch like him . And he laughs saying the scar is on the wrong side .

The cover of ursas son lee lasted 8 months .

His cover got blown when the gaang came for a viset .

The first thing Zuko knows is a blur of yellow hugging him yelling “ Zuko we couldn’t find you at the palace your gaurd said you were hear. Nice to see you miss Zukos mum. ”

And sukka yelling “ so are you a drama queen Insted of a fire lord now “

The theater troop LOST THERE MINDS.

Zuko had to beg them to stop bowing to him as he introduced them to his freinds that he SAVED THE WORLD WITH.

They got no work done that day . But ang bullied Zuko Into then showing the troop the dancing dragon rutean. And ended up trying to teatch it to kiyi. Coz she wanted to do the dance too.

Amaya having hearing aids but she hates using them . There are just to many sounds going on all the time . It’s so exhausting.

And if people know she owns them they expect her to struggle wearing them Instead of them leaning a little sign . she normally refuses on principle

But she didn’t actually get rid of them . She’ll put them on in the evening for “ meme time” were her nephews show her all the funny videos they like that wouldn’t make sense without sound . It’s special to her. the only sounds she hears are her nephews laughing and the videos that make them so happy.

Fire lord Zuko being just a bit ferrel . And his music taste is no different

At his coronation. Some of his surviving crew Start a sea shanty. Coz though he pretends he hates them they know he loves them.

There’s a moment of tense quiet when all the upperclass look at the new fire lord shocked at sutch a scandal. To see what he’ll do, expecting him to be angry . Only for Zuko ( who in his defence is still on a lot of pain meds ) to join in enthusiastically knowing all the words .

He also likes a lot of angry “ down with the fire lord” music that he Hurd in the earth kingdom. Witch is problematic since he now is said leader. He once took a protest completely off guard coz they were expecting a fight but Instead he told them to carry on coz he liked that song .

A reminder toph is powerful because she’s blind.Not despite it.

If she had been born seeing she would have no reason to learn earth bending like that .

Looking at a well documented and wide known  discipline like earth bending from sutch a different angle comes from necessity.

( real world example. As a dyslexic person . I get my phone to read to me And Wright for me. Coz I cant always do that . Witch is assistive tec originally made for blind people. A lot of people who don’t need that . Don’t even know it’s a thing you can even do with your phone . In college I researched and Wrote a essay Wilst basically being Illiterate Because I HAD TO or I would fail. I found a different way to Wright and read coz I had no choice)

If she had been seeing she would have been strong . But not to the level she is . She would have learnt from a tutor and been told how it was supposed to work. And she would have no reason to question it . Or even meet the badger moles.

But she is blind. The traditional way wasn’t a option. She needed to “see” so she learnt a skill that gave her that ability . She made it work for her . And from that she was able to invent a new discipline and later a new type of bending completely .that even able bodied people thought was impressive.

That my friends is assistive technology.

Was it useful in the context of fighting . Yes.

But it only exists through the needs of a Disabled person trying to function in the world that’s not made for them.

And she probably only made the connection between earth and mettle bending because as a disabled person shes so used to thinking about things from the point of view of . “Ok I can’t do this but I have this and I need to do that “. How can we make this work.

Life worked as a doctor. Saving people . And stopping people meeting death Before there time. She enjoys long days. Laying in the sun. Watching the world go buy . She’s all about things that take a long time to achieve but when she succeeds it’s so worth it .

Then there’s death. Saprisingly when he’s not helping people to the after life he’s a actor . He loves The arts . Activity’s that only exist in that moment and can’t be replicated. To him it makes them valuable .

As young spirits. He first met life when he came to pick up the dead. There time was up . And he was there to show them the way.

At first she was angry at him for taking her people away from her . But she learnt that people would die with or without him . He was there to help them find there afterlife .

She was shocked to find out that he was a huge fan of her work and all he wanted to do was look after them when she couldn’t anymore,

They balanced etchother. She taught him to slow down And enjoy the little things . he taught her that good things didn’t have to last And that’s what made them special .

She would bring him flowers after his shows. And though they would always wilt so fast . He would smile and keep them anyway .

When they married. They eloped. They traveled somewhere beautiful . They married in a little chapel . Then walked along the beach. Not worrying about getting sand in there fancy clothes. Just living in the moment .

The marriage was sudden but they knew they had the rest of forever to enjoy it .

Every so often a human would work out who they were . The spirits found this endlessly amusing . The human always came to the concision that they were the hero that needed to save life from death. But all that would happen is life would laugh and stand next to death. “ I don’t need saving from my husband. We’re Very happy Thankyou very Much.”

She says that it’s worth the risk of flirting with death coz he loves his life.

I first Hurd the song “ you’ll be back” from Hamilton. With no context on who the characters are and what show it’s from.

I thought it was some camp villain who was singing to his protagonist x boyfriend.

When I relised that I had unknowingly shipped the king of England and Hamilton. Now that’s a cursed ship.

If Zuko had said goodbye to Mai when he left to go teach the avatar Firebending

It basically would’ve gone down the exact same as the scene from defying gravity in wicked.

And if they ever found out about the musical (I feel like it would’ve been an earth nation musical) they would take great joy in re-enacting that scene and absolutely belting it. ( both are theatre kids)

And everyone that sees it happen I think it’s the most odd thing ever . Seeing the serious fire Lord and be even more serious Mai. Acting out the song verry dramatically. But they’re also really good so no one will ever say anything that might make them stop .

Seeing with fire.

After the agni kie the medic told him that Zuko was lucky to even have a eye after such a severe injury. But when being banished from home With a Barely healed facial scar that came with profound hearing and vision loss. It didn’t feel very lucky .

Not that it would stop him. In fact he refused to admit that there was anything wrong with his vision .

His uncle would just sigh and take that into account when training him. Giving him the skills he needed to hold his own.

Zuko would never admit it. But he noticed that uncle taken to standing on his blind side when they travelled so no one could sneak up on him. He appreciated it immensely. He hated it when people appeared out of nowhere from a point that he used to be able to see .

And with what little hearing remained he could still hear low sounds. So he could still mostly understand uncle when he stood on his deaf side. It made him feel a little less disabled . This would also subtly force people who he couldn’t hear as well to stand on his hearing side

The only person that he openly told was toph. When he first joined the ganng They bonded over there blindness. She thought he had the bad deal. He had lost his vision . He knew what a full field of vision looked like .We’re as she was born blind . She didn’t know any difference . But she never once pitiedhim. It was one of the things he liked about her .

Zuko was fascinated by tophs ability to “see”. And she joked that if she could teatch the avatar earth banding she could teatch him to see. They laughed about it but after a lot of trial and error Zuko managed to create his own form of “ vision “ by sensing heat sources through his bending . it wasn’t as nuanced as tophs but was perfect for “seeing “ people approching from his blind side .

No one could ever sneek up on him again.

With enugh practice he even worked out that you could tell the difference between different benders and non benders. ( fire benders ran hot and water benders ran cold ) as well as sensing if people were in the next room to him.

After the war the palaces council always descused the latest story that had emerged of what there New fire Lord had gotten up to during the war. If they asked him about the rumours Zuko would neither confirm or deny it but there is NO WAY he could have been the blue spirit ( who had been given a full pardon for there crimes ) Or had broken into the North Pole by diving in freezing tiger seal tunnels . Those things only happen in spirit tails.

But in a meeting when Zuko had calmly stood up and announced to his guards. that there was an assassination attempt happening and that there was three fire benders and two non benders on the roof about to brake in through the ceiling . Only for said men to come crashing down 10 seconds later and be quickly apprehended buy the weighting gaurd .

The council had all desided that day that the fire lord could in fact see through walls.
