(Warning: Long post ahead)
OH MY GOD is it good. I instantly liked it the moment I heard it. It doesn’t really have any exciting parts or climaxes, but the slow kinda dragging beat just hits right. That song is a bop and the music video is aesthetically pleasing. The clothes, the choreography, the background, vocals, everything worked together beautifully.
As I was enjoying the MV for the first time, I noticed few things:
The song. To me it sounds a lot like mixture of Ko Ko Bop and The Eve. Like the beat would’ve been inspired by Ko Ko Bop and the seductiveness would’ve come from The Eve. But what was really interesting was Chanyeol’s rap. It was almost identical to his rap in Monster. The flow was really similar as if it was copied from Monster. I don’t know anything about music, but to Love shot was like mixture of Ko Ko Bop and The Eve with Monster’s rap.
The choreography. Or more like one part of it. When the chorus hit with Love shot drop and the na na na na part started, the bodyrolls just punched me in the face. I was NOT prepared for it. But there was something familiar in that particular part. Like I said previously, the song felt like it was inspired from The Eve, not only that but the first part of the choreo too.
When you look at the movement in Love shot it’s really close to the one in The Eve. The only difference is the fingers’ position and the arm’s placement, but other than that it’s very similar.
The music video. To be honest, I don’t even know where to start. I mean there were subtle nods towards older music videos and then there were not subtle moments. For example:
That car with those flowers gave such heavy Ko Ko Bop vibe. I went back to Ko Ko Bop MV to check if the car was same, but it wasn’t. It was almost same, but Love shot’s car was much lighter blue than the one in Ko Ko Bop.
The red cube probably doesn’t have any sort of meaning, but I found it interesting that the ‘theme’ in Tempo was color red with cubes and Love shot had it. I know that the one in Love shot isn’t necessarily a cube, but rather a glass of some sort with the same shape and red liquid (wine?) in it. It appears more than few times with Suho and D.O. I don’t know whether there’s two glasses or is it just that one. Like I said probably doesn’t have any connection, but I thought the resemblance was just funny little thing to point out.
Sehun drinking what I assume is whiskey. The question I have is why the fuck is the youngest one drinking the alcohol? And why whiskey? I’m not sure if there’s another MV, where he drinks whiskey too, but Tempo was the first thing that came to my mind.
This part made. me. fucking. SCREAM. They didn’t even try to be subtle and draw the fucking parallels between these two music videos. When I saw Suho facing camera and standing between guys passing by, I almost threw my computer out of the window. I mean WHAT??? WHY?? WHEN HOW WHO?????? This part still bothers me and I can’t wrap my mind around it. Love shot didn’t necessarily have plot (like some other MVs have) besides members stopping at gas station, while on their way to movie theater and after that rob a museum from flowers?? I don’t-???? Anyway, this scene fucking ended me and my brain no longer exists.
I’ve been watching EXO’s music videos ever since they debuted (because FUCK YEAH SUPER POWERS AND A STORY MODE), but I haven’t kept up with them otherwise. I know there’s some sort of timeline going on and I haven’t been able catch up with it. I do know they were kidnapped and also were almost experimented on, but they escaped. That’s all I know. Oh, and something about Red forces. If someone wants to fully explain the whole thing, feel free. BTS already wrecked me with their Wings concept and my theory mind has been sensitive ever since...
