Please, stop eating fish. The world’s stocks of seafood will have collapsed by 2048 at present rates of destruction by fishing. This means the ocean will be empty by 2048 if people don’t stop eating fish. The fishing industry is the biggest killer of animals in the world, more than 1 trillion fish die each year. Please ask yourself if your fish consumption is worth the total extinction of all marine life. Please stop eating fish and alert everyone you know what will happen if we don’t.
holy shit this is actually true
i dont even buy fish that much and golly i love fish but its not worth this
I love seeing posts like this circulating, getting big. I’m GLAD people are finally scared.
im so glad i dont like to eat fish
But what about those who have diets primarily consisting of seafood because it’s what they have access to? I’m from Jamaica and let me tell you: the people whose diets are mainly fish eat it because it’s what they can afford and it’s what’s accessible. There are people there who absolutely need to fish to survive. There are homeless kids and adults alike who are hungry and you know what? Some beg and some steal but most fish. The poor who live in island nations rely on fishing as a source of both food and income so sorry, they can’t just stop eating fish and/or fishing.
I will say though, if you feel strongly about this and you are able to give up fish then absolutely. I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t eat fish except when I go home (to Jamaica). When I’m there I mostly eat fish, chicken, fruits, and veggies. Especially fish and fruits. So this makes me think from both the viewpoint of being able to help by giving up fish and the viewpoint of the poor and homeless I know who need it to survive. It really makes me think.
I also personally don’t think the ocean will be 100% empty in 33 years, but as OP said, not eating fish can help. If only more people could see this. And I probably won’t stop eating fish, but aside from the extremity of that link, it was an eye-opener.
You know, people that are fishing themselves, in a lower income country such as a lot of those in the Caribbean aren’t really who this was aimed at. However I see a lot of people who know how environmentally damaging, cruel, as well as exploitive to the people working animal agriculture, the meat industry is, so they view eating fish as idk, like something they should be patted on the back for. I know many people are not going to stop eating fish but I would implore them to download the monteray bay aquarium sea food watch. Many farm raised fish are either caught from the wild, or the process is extremely environmentally damaging.
The oceans are collapsing due to large scale fishing operations, not because of the folks out there who fish to survive.
I'm looking at the people paying $15 for all you can eat Red Lobster.
I'm shifting my eyes at the people paying top dollar for fish at the corporate sushi go-round twice a month.
