Certainty
What is Certain?
Is there anything? even if it is, are we sure that it is certain? or is it an illusion where we find comfort?
We assume. That’s what we do. We try to find the probability of an event. But we can never be certain of anything. Even with certainty, you can’t be a 100% certain of anything due to what we know of quantum theory. So, all we can say is “most probably”. e.g. It is highly probable that the sun will rise tomorrow. Even death may not be a certainty in the future when we may possibly be able to upload our minds into a machine.
The famous Heisenberg's principle defines uncertainty so well that one can't have a counter question. It says “the position and the velocity of an object cannot both be measured exactly, at the same time, even in theory “.
Ask yourself. What % of thoughts in your head a day is based on future events? how many actions do you perform a day keeping future state in mind? Right!!! you have figured some answers to it. Now, let’s think how many of them are futile? Most of these so-called future events are based on level of certainty. If you are highly confident about something, then the probable future you have figured will come to be & so on.
Let’s bring in some numbers to give you perspective.
Experts estimate that a human mind goes through about 70000 thoughts a day. Since we have established that most of them are future influenced, let’s say 60% of your brain energy is used up. If half of 42000 thoughts are assumed to be productive, then that still leaves us with 21000 un-productive thoughts from not-so-happening future. Imagine all that space & energy in your brain to concentrate and used up in your today… now... this very moment.
How do you imagine your life will be?
How good it would feel to be able to live through those tiny moments of happiness life throws at you?
It’s all about recognizing the choices there is for life to offer.
Would you be a more In-the-moment, live-free person? Would you live a life where quality takes the driving seat instead of quantity?
Or
Would you be the fear-driven, live-for-that-glorious-imaginary-future person? Would you want to be Oh-Shoot-I-missed-that person?
The only thing that is certain is the very moment one is living in. Make it count.
Peace out !!!
