you laid sprawled on the floor of your dorm, scrolling through your phone with no real purpose, while your roommate hung off the edge of their bed, doing the same.
the two of you had been stuck in the same lazy cycle for hours—chat for a few minutes, go quiet again, shift positions, repeat. it hadn’t bothered you before; in fact, these first two days together had gone pretty smoothly as you got to know each other before classes started in a couple days.
but right now? boredom was creeping in.
with a groan, you shut your phone off and let your arm drop beside you. your roommate glanced up at the sound.
“you hungry?” you asked, lifting your head just enough to meet their eyes.
they pursed their lips, thought for a moment, then shrugged. “not really. you?”
you sighed, flopping your head back against the floor. “no… i’m just bored. i wanna do something, but i don’t have the energy to go to a party or anything.”
they sat up, crossing their legs on the bed, mulling it over. “hmm. what can we do?”
you propped yourself up on your elbows, staring off. “i don’t know. i’ve been trying to think of something for the past few minutes, but i got nothing.”
a few beats of silence passed before your roommate’s face shifted into something mischievous. you weren’t sure if it made you excited or nervous.
“what? why are you looking at me like that?” you asked, wary.
their smile only grew. “you know how people on our floor keep leaving their doors open, hoping to make friends and all that?”
you sat up a little, curious. “yeah…”
“haven’t you seen those videos? the ones where people just walk into random dorms, pretend it’s theirs, and start giving a tour while the actual residents just stand there all confused?”
you paused, trying to place it, then remembered. “oh right—like the one you sent me the other day.”
they nodded quickly, grin widening. “exactly. so, why don’t we try it? see how people react.”
you hesitated. “i don’t know… this is a co-ed dorm. what if we walk into some gym bro’s room and there’s, like, sweaty socks everywhere—or worse, boxers.”
their face twisted in disgust, but they shrugged. “guess we take our chances. so… you in or not?”
you stared at them for a long moment before finally groaning. “fine… but if it goes terribly, i’m blaming you.”
their grin stretched ear to ear. “deal. let’s go.”
they shot up from the bed, practically charging to their closet to yank out a hoodie.
“you’re gonna change?” you asked, tilting your head as you pushed yourself up.
“not really,” they said, tugging the hoodie over their head. “just enough to look presentable—what if i come across the love of my life?”
you snorted, shaking your head. “right, right.”
still grinning, you grabbed a sweater, zipped it up, and joined them by the door. your hand hovered on the knob for a beat, a flicker of nerves sparking in your chest.
“lead the way,” you said, trying to sound braver than you felt.
the hallway buzzed faintly with chatter and music, doors cracked open like little invitations. you shot your roommate a look, nerves sparking in your chest.
they just smirked, nudging you forward. “come on, pick a door. first one’s yours.”
you gave them a puzzled look, “what do you mean first? we’re not doing this again.”
they pouted dramatically before sighing. “fine, fine. then we better make this one count.”
before you could question, they grabbed your hand and tugged you along the hallway. you both exchanged casual hellos with a couple people passing by, trying to look as normal as possible despite your nerves bubbling up.
a few moments later, they slowed to a stop, eyes locked on a door up ahead.
“found one?” you whispered, scanning the hall.
“mhm.” they hummed with a sly grin. “right there. let’s go.”
and just like that, they broke into a brisk walk, already pulling out their phone—preparing to film the whole thing.
you blinked, left a step behind.
“hey—wait for me!” you hissed, shuffling after them, your pulse picking up as the door drew closer.
you tugged their hand before they could get any closer.
“wait—how are we actually going to do this?” you whispered, glancing at the door.
they only shrugged, as if it were the simplest thing in the world. “just go with the flow. you want me to go first while you record, or you first and then i’ll switch it to you?”
your stomach twisted at the thought, nerves buzzing under your skin. after a moment’s hesitation, you shook your head. “you first. i’ll go second.”
their grin widened knowingly. “i knew you’d say that.”
you rolled your eyes but couldn’t help laughing a little, trying to shake off the nerves as you both crept closer to the door.
once you both reached the door, they handed you their phone—already recording.
“did you really have to pick the one that’s barely cracked open? there were plenty wide open, obviously inviting people in.” you whispered, giving them a look.
they just smirked. “you said one and done, remember? had to make sure it’d be worth it.”
you rolled your eyes but couldn’t hide the smile tugging at your lips. “whatever. let’s just get this over with.”
your roommate cleared their throat dramatically, while you adjusted the camera angle.
“alright, this is our room—124.” they gestured at the number plate beside the door before knocking lightly and pushing it open. “and this is our highly anticipated dorm tour.”
they strode in as if they owned the place, confidence radiating off them. you bit back your laughter, your nerves already forgotten in the absurdity of it.
“alright, so first we’re going to start off with my side of the room.” your roommate announced, striding past someone, who looked utterly bewildered at his desk.
they paused for a beat, as if noticing him for the first time. “and this is our friend…uh—” they glanced at him, waiting.
he just blinked at them, silently. “yeosang,” your roommate continued, nodding as if that explained everything. “he just…hangs out here, you know? he keeps us company. anyways.”
they kept moving, wandering farther into the room until they reached the opposite side, where what looked like yeosang’s roommate’s belongings were scattered.
“this is my bed. you already know i had to get some grey sheets—you know, to keep things neutral.” they rambled on, hands animated, clearly enjoying the performance.
you glanced back at yeosang—something about him made your stomach twist with a mix of nerves and curiosity.
his dark hair fell casually over his forehead, effortless and unassuming. his eyes were sharp but softened whenever they landed on you, and the faint curve of his lips hinted at quiet amusement.
you couldn’t help but do a quick double take, caught off guard by how striking he looked.
realizing you’d been staring, you quickly looked away, forcing your gaze back to your roommate, who was now animatedly explaining the posters plastered across the wall.
“and here we have…uh, very aesthetic posters,” they said, gesturing like it was a museum exhibit. “i picked these myself. notice the color coordination, the spacing, the—“
yeosang’s brow quirked, a small, almost imperceptible smile tugging at his lips as his gaze drifted to you, subtle but unmistakable.
he made it impossibly hard to focus on the task at hand. even when you weren’t looking straight at him, your eyes still tracked him from the corner of your eye. his presence made you nervous—almost as much as the intensity of his gaze.
he leaned back slightly, arms crossed, still watching your roommate’s antics, but every so often he stole glances at you—his attention quiet and deliberate.
you bit your lip to keep from laughing, trying to focus on holding the camera steady instead of the man sitting at his desk near you, while your roommate continued their dramatic narration.
your roommate took the camera with a grin. “alright, your turn. show off your side of the room,” they teased.
you cleared your throat, trying to steady yourself, but your words stumbled out anyway.
“so…uh…here’s…my—I mean, yeah, my side of the room,” you mumbled, your hands fidgeting more than you realized. a soft cough escaped you as your cheeks heated, your gaze flicking between the camera and yeosang.
yeosang’s eyes didn’t leave you, calm and intent, and the way he watched made your stomach tighten with every glance. your words came out even more jumbled under the weight of his attention.
your roommate behind the camera couldn’t hold it in. “oh my god, look at you! you’re so flustered, it’s hilarious,” they cackled.
you froze, giving them a glare.
“i’m not flustered!” you protested, though your wobbling voice betrayed you.
yeosang’s lips curved into a quiet, knowing smile, and your heart skipped.
every second he held your gaze made your hands shake, your gestures clumsier, and your sentences more awkward.
“okay…uh…so here’s…stuff,” you stammered, pointing at a stack of books, but your hand hovered in the air like you weren’t quite sure what to do with it. you then patted the bed beside you, unknowing of what to do without being awkward. “and, you know. my bed…”
your roommate snorted, whispering, “i cannot with you right now. this is gold.”
you groaned softly, cheeks burning, as yeosang’s gaze lingered—sharp, soft, attentive. every little fumble felt magnified.
the more he looked at you, the more flustered you became, and the harder your roommate laughed at your adorably chaotic performance.
midway through your fumble, the door creaked open. the figure only paused when your roommate’s laughter echoed through the room.
“oh? we have company?” you assumed it was his roommate, glancing up as he looked from his phone, eyebrows raised.
yeosang only hummed in response, still leaning back slightly in his chair, eyes quietly fixed on you.
the sudden arrival of someone new gave you an excuse to shift your focus away from the one person making you nervous.
“so, this is our friend…” you gestured toward him, glancing back when he didn’t immediately respond.
“ah. wooyoung,” he finally said with a nod.
“wooyoung—he just likes to drop by sometimes.” you gave a small shrug before turning to him again. “we’re giving a tour of our dorm, want to join?”
his face lit up, mouth parting in excitement. “ohh! yes.” he walked over quickly, draping an arm around your shoulder as he looked at you. “what part were you on?”
“we just finished covering that side of the room, now we’re on this side,” your roommate said, one hand gesturing while the other held up the phone, recording the both of you.
“ahh, well!” wooyoung beamed as he strolled over to his and yeosang’s desks. “this is the study area,” he announced, pointing toward the two tables. you nodded along quickly.
“yes! this is where we study and do our homework.” you shooed yeosang from his chair, your hand trembling just slightly as you did.
he blinked at you, clearly flabbergasted at how your tone shifted the second wooyoung entered. with a raised brow, he stood slowly, retreating to his bed.
“this is my incredibly comfortable seat—brought to you by me, of course,” you said with a smug grin, patting the cushion before sitting down.
wooyoung nodded, playing along. “it’s true, i even helped them carry it in.”
your roommate laughed behind the camera at how naturally the two of you bounced off each other.
“and over here,” you continued, gesturing toward yeosangs desk, “we’ve got photos—friends, travels, all kinds of memories. and right here, my trusty laptop, because before this i was, as always, being a diligent student.”
your roommate cackled. “yeah, right!”
you gasped dramatically. “pfft, whatever!” you laughed, giving them a playful shove before sliding out of the chair.
“and right between the desks we even have a mini fridge and snacks to keep everyone fed and hydrated,” wooyoung added proudly, opening the fridge door to display what’s inside.
“ahh, right, right! how could i forget?” you echoed, nodding along with exaggerated seriousness.
you made your way back toward the door, pausing halfway. “and last but not least, we have the closet—featuring only the finest clothing, of course!” you announced, sweeping a hand toward it with mock magnificence.
your roommate zoomed the camera in on the clothes within the closet. “wow. any chance we get to see these ‘luxury pieces’ up close?”
wooyoung rushed over dramatically, throwing himself in front of the closet.
“no, no! such treasures are only for vips.” he wagged a finger at the lens, his grin wide. “and you, dear viewer, have not subscribed to the premium package.”
“sorry, guys!” you said before leaning closer to the camera to whisper, your hand partly covering your mouth to keep wooyoung from seeing. “looks like someone likes to gatekeep!”
“hey! i heard that!” he called from behind you, throwing his hands up in mock defense.
you laughed, shrugging at the camera before walking toward the door. “well then! that concludes our dorm tour—brought to you by…” you grabbed the camera from your roommate and turned it toward the two of you. “us, of course!” you said as you both posed for the camera.
“and let’s not forget our special features… what was your name again?” you teased, glancing over at yeosang. you knew his name, of course—but he didn’t need to know that. he already seemed aware of the effect he had on you, so why feed into it?
when you turned to him, his expression shifted to one of amused surprise, as if to say, ‘oh, so that’s how it is?’
“yeosang,” he replied from where he was seated on his bed.
“anddd…” you drew out the word as you turned to wooyoung.
“wooyoung!” he grinned, waving excitedly at the camera.
“alright, say goodbye!” your roommate prompted.
“goodbye!” wooyoung shouted, now waving both hands.
“bye,” yeosang added dryly.
“wow, the enthusiasm here is unmatched,” you said sarcastically, turning to yeosang with a smirk. his lips parted, ready with a comeback, but before he could get a word out, you spun on your heel and grabbed your roommate’s hand.
“time to go!” you blurted, practically dragging them out of the room.
your roommate burst into loud laughter as the two of you sprinted down the hall, their laughter echoing behind you. you didn’t dare look back—not once. regret already started sinking in; you were sure you’d just embarrassed yourself beyond recovery.
meanwhile, your roommate couldn’t stop laughing, still glancing over their shoulder as if to replay the moment in their head.
once you both made it back to your shared room, you leaned against the closed door, exhaling. “i’m never doing that again.”
your roommate threw themselves onto their bed with a dramatic groan. “what?? that was so fun! i’d do that again in a heartbeat. the adrenaline was insane!”
you gave them a deadpan look before plopping down at your desk. the audio from the whole ordeal echoed faintly as your roommate replayed the video, laughing to themselves.
“i still can’t believe that complete 180 you did,” they said between laughs. “you went from ‘uh—eh—umm’ to a totally different person!”
you rolled your eyes. “oh, shut up. i was nervous! plus, when his roommate came in, it helped—i could bounce off his energy. since you were no help, thank you very much.”
your roommate smirked. “oh, come on, i was just enjoying the show. you know, witnessing you fumble the bag live with my own two eyes.”
you groaned, grabbing an eraser from your desk and chucking it at them. “i hate you.”
they put their hands up in defense, gasping dramatically. “what do you mean?! i was basically helping you.”
you scoffed, “how? by making me fend for myself?”
they shrugged, “well, yeah! that way he could see the way you are, or whatever.. i don’t know! don’t ask me questions..”
you laughed shaking your head, “well good thing that’s over with. i hope i don’t face them ever again.”
“whaaat?” your roommate dragged for dramatics. “wooyoung seemed cool to hang around! plus i think yeosang was clearly into you. even i could tell. i’m sure wooyoung could too from how much you guys starred at each other.”
you felt your face turn warm, causing you to grab something random from tour desk to throw at your roommate once again. “can you like, i don’t know.. shut up??”
your roommate snorted, catching the pencil you threw. “what? i was just saying the truth. anyone who could read the room would tell that you two were sooo into each other. just go back and get his number or something! what’s stopping you?”
you glared at them, getting up from your chair. “i’m done talking about this topic. i’m hungry. aren’t you hungry? let’s go get food.”
your roommate rolled their eyes, but got up nonetheless. “whatever. you can run from it but don’t come to me when you never see him again!”
you walked to the door, turning the handle as you said, “trust me, i won’t see him again.”
but as you stepped out, you came face-to-face with the two people whose privacy you and your roommate had just invaded. wooyoung stood there, one hand raised as if about to knock, while yeosang looked like he wished he could disappear, cheeks tinged pink as he stared at anything but you.
“oh!” wooyoung exclaimed, stepping forward. “i was just about to knock. we came because a certain someone had a question.” he nudged the boy next to him with his elbow, shoving him slightly toward you before standing behind yeosang with a proud grin.
you heard your roommate rush up behind you. you could already tell, even without looking at them, how amused they were by the situation.
“go on,” wooyoung egged, clearly enjoying himself.
yeosang shot him a sharp glare before clearing his throat and finally meeting your eyes for a brief second, then looking away again. “so, um…” he started, his gaze darting everywhere but at you.
wooyoung elbowed him once more, prompting another glare. yeosang exhaled, trying to steady himself, and met your eyes again, his voice low and nervous. “can i… have your number?”
you blinked, completely unprepared. “wait, what?”
wooyoung stood behind him, as if he was a dad proud of his son. “oh, he’s serious!”
yeosang groaned, face heating up.
your roommate’s head popped up behind you, pointing at the scene like it was a reality show. “now this is exactly what i needed.” they gave you a playful shove, pushing you slightly toward them. “so… what’s it gonna be?” they added, smirking.
you shot them a look before turning back to the two standing in front of you—both waiting expectantly.
“actually,” you said, smiling, “we were just heading out to grab something to eat. want to join?”
