It's hard to relax when you know tomorrow's impending doom is still well on its way.
When my students ask me how I deal with them every day
I’m like:
Week #19
Our first week back from the break went incredibly well. We made the transition from a regular school clothing policy to one with strict uniforms (Khaki pants with black, grey, white, or green polo shirts/button downs). My students voiced a lot of frustration prior to the break but I think the transition was successful because the students knew their voices were heard. I spent the first two days complimenting how gosh-darn-fantastic everyone looked in their uniforms, and I wore a uniform as well.
I told my students that I didn't have to wear the uniform, but I sympathized with their frustration and wanted to model making a positive switch. I only had ONE student complain as a result. My class climate is more positive than it's ever been, and I'm beyond happy with how my students are behaving right now.
2015 Teaching Resolutions
Blog weekly. I realize that this blog started as an honest text review of the inner workings of my teaching mind but slowly became reblogs of gifs that apply to my life. I'm going to try and balance those two better.
Make Math & Science a bigger part of my classroom. I'm ashamed to say it's something that's taught lightly and at arm's length. I use student behaviors as an excuse to not make it a central part of our classroom; however, seeing how I've managed to work through novels, writing units, and social studies with students throwing desks and fighting each other makes me think I can do a better job of helping them with math and science.
Pack lunches! I do this about 2x a week m-a-x. This is another shameful topic for me, and I often solve my hunger problems by handing my behavioral tech a $10 bill as he walks out to his lunch. He'll bring back whatever his 20 year old body felt like eating that day, and my body usually suffers because of it.
That's all for now. What are your teaching resolutions?
When someone asks if I like being a teacher
I’m all:
When students misbehave
Every time:
Want this for the classroom. #iteach #teach #teachers #teaching #teachersbelike #teachersfollowteachers #teachersthesedays #schooljokes #lol #lolz #teacherhumor #teacherjokes #teacherlife #teachinglife
When I ask a student to stop leaning back in their chair
First, they’re like:
Then, they’re like:
all day erry day.
yodiscrepo:
During faculty meetings
I’m all like:
When people abuse the "All District Staff" group in the school email:
When a kid asks a question about life that I'm not prepared to answer
I look like:
Today's was: "Why are so obviously afraid of being a mother?"
Taking a personal day.
