Grief is just love with no place to go.

Today I had my first real moment alone since arriving in Malta, over coffee and books this morning at a café near the university. I love this spot; these balconies are everywhere in the city and they are so full of sunlight :–)
dear summer, I’m sorry for all of the mean things I said about you when I was hot and sweaty
ya……… these two have gotten me through everything & continues to do so
The Hours (2002, dir. Stephen Daldry)
studying and working until you run yourself completely out of energy, until you’re so overwhelmed with stress, until you are crying, until you are so thoroughly miserable is not acceptable.
if you are this focused on your work, you need to hear this:
your work quality will diminish if you keep this up.
my grades SOARED when i finally slept 7-8 hours a night instead of staying up until 2am to get things done.
i was still mentally unwell - at that point i hadn’t gotten the crucial diagnosis that would improve my quality of life - but it helped. immensely.
when you are stressed and crying, you’ll get headaches. you’ll feel physically bad.
your body carries stress in your back, your neck, in tons of places. this isn’t new-age woo, this is true science.
i am so guilty of this, BUT. when you stay up late, you often drink oodles of coffee the next day. (listen: i’m a stereotypical queer, i love me a venti cold brew. i get it.)
the issue isn’t dehydration [citation].
the half-life of caffeine ranges from 1.5 to 9.5 hours, with a typical HL of 5 hours.
if you’re on the unfortunate side, this can ruin your sleep if you drink it too late in the day. (i have a cutoff for making my last cup at 1-2pm.)
being miserable in general can contribute to anxiety and depression. if you already struggle with these, it can make them much worse.
bottom line: taking care of yourself will improve your quality of work, and it will make you feel better.
