What do we all think about this speculation that theyâll be filming series two and three of HR back to back (hence the four month filming timeframe thatâs been given)? Iâd dismissed it, but I saw that DM brought it up again and so have a few update accounts. Maybe I just donât know how this works, but I donât understand why Jacob wouldnât have said thatâs whatâs happening? Heâs only ever talked about writing and working on series two when discussing this year. Why wouldnât he just say thatâs the plan if it was? Also - to me - that timeframe is more about everything in production so would include any pick-ups but also ADR which might extend out into editing. Itâd be cool if they were doing the next two seasons (I have huge anxiety that we wonât get Unrivalled because H&C will be too big to come back for a fourth season). But I just donât think thatâs whatâs happening? Thoughts?
The short answer is, we have no idea.
But we've definitely been pondering and discussing the possibilities!
Jacob holding off on giving too many details builds anticipation, keeps people talking, and gives them another milestone to promote. We know from the Season 2 renewal announcement that decisions were being made behind the scenes long before fans were officially told.
At first we also assumed that they would only be shooting one season. Anyone connected to the show who's spoken about the upcoming filming has only mentioned it being season 2 and although the 4 month filming timeframe is longer, we also know that the season 1 air dates were bumped up a couple of months and that Jacob and his team were still doing post-production/ADR days before each episode aired, so they maybe want more of a buffer this season.
That being said, with some of the information that has come out recently we've been wondering about the possibility of both season 2 and 3 being filmed together:
The stars of the show are booked and busy. Filming both seasons would probably be way easier for everyone's scheduling.
Tierney has brought on a writing partner, Michael Goldbach this year. Maybe indicating a larger writing workload? Or maybe it's just due to the shorter timeframe Jacob had for writing this season.
Tierney has confirmed a heavy Troy Barrett arc (therefore Role Model), has not confirmed he will cover the entirety of The Long Game in any of his interviews, teasing, "Who said Iâm doing it all? Thereâs a lot of material.â and has said he won't go beyond a 6 episode season. So with all of that information it seems almost impossible to cover all of that in Season 2 alone and might make sense for the 2 seasons to be filmed at the same time, especially knowing they film in blocks.
We've also had unofficial casting calls looking for an Eric Bennett, Ryan Price, Fabian Sallah, Dallas Kent, as well as several Centaurs players, indicating there may be some Tough Guy and/or Common Goal content coming our way as well. Which also indicates a lot of content to fit into a 6 episode, single season filming.
So, we guess all this is to say, we could see it going either way. We'd certainly love a season with the Unrivaled storyline (and Rachel did mention the possibility of it in a recent interview) but for now, we're eagerly awaiting any little crumb that gets dropped.
