“Well, I wouldn’t say we’re dating anymore.” Eddie shook his head. “More like…planning on hosting a ceremony where we both promise stay with one another for a long time. Or, as the kids call it nowadays, being engaged.”
“I’m sorry, what? Do you want to run that by me again, Reed?”
“I’m not an alcoholic.” Eddie scowled. “If you really want to know…I came here for lunch. With Val.”
“Ew, she’s still dating you? Glad I finally kicked her to the curb then.”
“Well, it’s a pub,” Eddie said, looking around the room. “Why do you think I’m here?”
“To get drunk? How low. Did you turn into some alcoholic when your kid died?”
Eddie thought about it for a moment before taking in a heavy breath and shrugging. “Well, my patronus is a dog, so I suppose I could pass as an adorable golden retriever.”
“Fascinating.” Heath blinked. “You still haven’t answered my question.”
“I’m not a dog.”
“I have a slew of names for you, Reed. Are you wanting to hear them all or will you be complacent with the mild one?”
“Making a mummy joke?” Eddie sighed. “How original. What I’m doing here…well, that’s none of your business.”
“Well, I’m making it my business. Speak, dog.”
“Are you sure you’re not looking in a mirror?”
“Oh, I’m sure. What are you doing here anyway? Shouldn’t you be cowering behind your mummy’s legs? Oh, wait.. You don’t have one.”

“Despite the difficulty I tried very hard to make sure I didn’t go crazy without you.” sarcasm was laced within her tone.
“My heart.” Heath held a hand over his chest. “The ache.”
“I don’t know.”
“All right then..”
“Would you like a list of all the girls I’ve satisfied? At least I know it’s longer than yours.”
“Oh yeah it is longer, mostly because I’m gay”
“Exactly.”
“Probably. But so long as you’re happy now, and you just keep on doing the things that make you happy, I think you should be fine.”
Heath smiled ruefully. “I still haven’t figured it out completely--how to be happy--but I hope I do someday.”
“Don’t be gross Heath, I just want to make sure my friends are happy.” She rubbed his arm, giving him a smile. “You will be happy, right?”
“Maybe. Kind of hard to tell, don’t you think?”
“I’m always right.” Anastasia beamed. “So are you going to get her a ring? Like a nice big diamond one?”
“I’ll get her a suitable one?” Heath made a nonchalant gesture. “I don’t know why you’re so interested in it. It’s just an arranged marriage. We wed, we breed--that’s it.”
“Oh I’m sure you might have seen better, but could you get better? Noo.” Anastasia waggled her finger at him disapprovingly. “You should feel lucky.”
Heath made a face. “Yeah, you’re right.”
“So wear earplugs, easy solution.” Anastasia bounced on the bed a little. “You’ve got to admit she’s absolutely beautiful at least.”
Heath bobbed his head from side to side. “I’ve seen better, but she is a lovely girl, yes. I’m sure she’ll make a fine wife.”
