Someone Like You | Heath & Isla
It’s been nearly three weeks since she’s been working at the Mystic Spirit, all thanks to the one and only Heath Riley, kind enough to offer her a job after meeting and talking with him over at the Cat Scratch. And now, here she was, standing behind the counter while scrolling through her phone due to the lack of activity at the shop today, only remembering about five people coming in. Isla usually enjoyed busy work, liking how the day seemed to fly by when she was running around doing something. But for some reason, she didn’t mind the small shop. It was nice, comforting even.Â
But of course, all good things came to an end. It was only a matter of time when Isla’s perfectly fine day turned sour. And after checking her Facebook for the first time in weeks, seeing the status where her ex-boyfriend back at home is in a new relationship completely turned her inside out. Her heart sunk and the sadness she once felt merely a month before came crashing back at full force. Not even noticing her boss walk into the room, tears welled up in her eyes as she made a shot for the bathroom.Â
Heath's hazel eyes, seeming to glow under the bright glare that had made a home on the lenses of his thick-rimmed glasses, blinked as they bore into the computer screen for what felt like countless hours. It had really only been half an hour, but because of his lack of patience and motivation to get the job done and finish his work for the evening, the clock felt like it was ticking slower than normal. He removed the headphones from over his ears, letting them rest around the nape of his neck as he angrily yanked the chord from its place in the computer on his messy desk. He tucked a few loose, darkly-colored curls behind his ears before cracking his knuckles and printing out a few documents that he needed to complete tonight's workload. He closed the laptop screen as a proud feeling surged through his veins, a tired, yet delighted smile spreading across his face.
He stretched his legs a bit before moving from his space in the office chair, removing the headphones from his shoulders and tossing them onto the desk. After picking up his nearly-empty cup of coffee and returning to the front desk where the printer rested just below the counter, he noticed a glimmer of something in his newest employee's green eyes that looked very uncharacteristic for someone who was usually so perky and upbeat. He could immediately tell that something was wrong, but decided to keep quiet unless she asked for his help, attempting to maintain a professional relationship and stay out of her personal life. Though he knew he had to say something when she retreated to the shop's bathroom, slowly approaching the door with a light knock. "Hey, uh..Everythin' alright in there, chere?" he asked, a hint of caution in his caring and concerned tone.
