I had no idea there was a Waltons fan page! My family and I spend every Sunday watching every episode of the Waltons with pizza as a tradition for years. We loved the show and it became a part of our family, so it's so nice to know there's other fans of the show, because it truly was a fantastic show.

John Boy

Is it just me, or was John Boy acting out of turn when he corrected the other children especially when John and Olivia were present?  He always seemed to boss them around and had quite a temper.  Was he ever corrected by his parents?  Also, Mary Ellen was a smart aleck too.  They both were disrespectful to Grandma and Grandpa.  Olivia was shown to let them get away with almost anything. Maybe I’m just a stern old lady. Thank you.

I think, being the oldest, John-Boy got it into his head that he could correct the other children. But, this wasn't entirely his fault. In The Homecoming, he chastises the children while they are decorating the tree, and Olivia comes in and scolds him. He says something, and she says back "You're the oldest, you make them mind" when two seconds later he was told off for trying to do just that. My older brother tries to boss me around too, even though I'm 26, so I think it might be an older sibling thing?

I saw part of an episode today where John-Boy was yelling at Mary Ellen, and Olivia came down the stairs to tell him not to talk to his sister like that. So,  yes, he did get corrected from time to time. There was also the episode where he borrowed the typewriter from Miss Mamie and Miss Emily and Mary Ellen accidentally sold it to the junk man, and he started yelling at her for that too. Olivia told him to knock it off, that she didn't know.

As for them being smart alecks, I think most of the children were. Especially Ben.

I'm so happy that I found this blog! A few years ago I was going through a difficult period and I watched The Waltons almost everyday. Such a beautiful show.

The man who played the patriarch on CBS' long-running series The Waltons has died. Ralph Waite was 85. He also had been recurring since 2008 as Papa Gibbs,

Joe Conley Dead: Waltons Actor Dies at 85

Joe Conley, who starred as Ike Godsey in The Waltons from 1972 to 1981, died on July 7 at the age of 85 after battling dementia
