PSA on how to be a better rp partner.

I’ve noticed something that seems to be a problem that crops up from time to time in this roleplay community (and I mean all of tumblr roleplay). Communication.  If you break someone’s rules and they politely let you know, you should know to double check next time. IF you are in doubt, double check. Rules are there so we can know people’s boundaries. Know what your partners are comfortable with. If the content may be questionable, ask them if it’s okay. And if they express discomfort, leave it at that and find something else to rp, or don’t and move on. The thing about roleplay is that it is a two-way street and it can’t just be about what you want to do. Otherwise your partner isn’t going to have a lot of fun. If you have an extremely powerful character, talk with your partners about your character’s abilities, invite them to discuss theirs as well. Decide if a fight is going to happen what the outcome will be. Even god-like characters can get hurt and it adds some fun if they stumble a bit in a fight. Outright winning and overpowering someone else or negating their powers all the time may be fun for you, but other people aren’t going to like it. You have to respect them and their muse too. We may roleplay for ourselves, but it takes two to make a thread. Don’t ignore your partner’s needs.

And if your partner tells you that you are making them uncomfortable, back off. Apologize. And if they ask you to leave them alone, respect that, and respect them. Not everyone is going to get along, not everyone is going to like you. That’s life. But don’t make things worse for the other person. 

Remember, you roleplay for you, yes, but that doesn’t mean it is only about you. Listen to and respect your partners and your experiences and theirs will be much better, I promise.
