I don't have a drawn design for him myself, but would you consider drawing Helenus of Troy? In my mind he looks kind of similar to that Palamedes design you posted recently but with much darker hair, golden brown eyes, a light beard, with some kind of laurel wreath as a tie in to his connection with Apollo.

Is this something similar to what you're looking for? :') i'll admit im in no way educated enough on helenus in particular so please do let me know!lol

I think the problem with a lot of “feminist” classical retellings that makes them fail at being feminist is that they’re villainizing the wrong characters.

Stop holding the gods to human standards. They’re not human. That is quite literally the point of MULTIPLE Euripides plays. Go after the heroes.

But go after the RIGHT heroes. Why are we vilifying Hector, arguably one of the least problematic heroes, in stories where Achilles and Agamemnon exist? Why is Paris exempt from criticism, but Menelaus is the epitome of evil? (That part is also aimed at Euripides, I love The Trojan Women but holy shit you did him dirty my guy.) Why are we not being MORE hateful towards Jason? Why are we continuing to make Medea the villain?

Why are we making shit up about Romeo to give Juliet her “feminist freedom arc” that she ALREADY HAS IN THE PLAY? Paris is RIGHT THERE, go rip HIM to shreds. And on the opposite spectrum of that, why don’t we NAME everyone who wronged Ophelia instead of sanitizing her to the point where she’s a completely different character, and in the end, oppressing her just like everyone else in the play?

A lot of this also boils down to the refusal to accept women and feminine characters as flawed, as well as the refusal to acknowledge that, in order to uphold these false narratives, you have to completely destroy characters who aren’t traditionally masculine or feminine, but clearly we’re not ready for that conversation yet.

Which we mean is that the odyssey is going to have not the best casting, horrible costuming, horrible background, color gradient, horrible accuracy but amazing retelling of the odyssey, which Troy had everything else amazing but was a horrible retelling of the story

hector was clocking in like that one minimum wage employee keeping the local pizza hut afloat.

achilles had to basically be dragged kicking and screaming to troy, and he spent most of the last year of the war on strike (sulking).

they basically held odysseus’ infant son at gunpoint to make him join.

an argument could be made for menelaus wanting to be there, but the man just wanted to get his wife and get out.

paris may have started this shit but he sure as hell couldn’t finish it. hector had to drag him to the battlefield by ear daily.

even AGAMEMNON tried to go home.
