âIâm already quite proficient, but your concern is noted.â Itâs the first thing heâs said in hours. Heâs hardly moved from where he stands, eyes fixated on the horizon of the valley below the dark tower he calls his perch. All appropriately mysterious, itâs a reputation Ren is happy to keep, even as much as it amuses him. How people fear what they donât understand.
His knight-enchanter is the only one of his small legion allowed to come and go as he pleases. Ren stared at him, too, as heâd entered, eyes red-rimmed from lack of rest.
The corners of his lips quirked, but the expression fell just short of a smile. Instead, it settled back into an impassive state. "You've given very little indication of such proficiency, then."Â
The room was uncomfortably cold, enough so that Relius wished he'd still had his armor on; cumbersome as it was, at least something could be said for its warmth. As he moved into the room, he lingered at the ornately carved table, peering at the open tome there.Â
 "And when was it that you slept last, Ren?"

âYeah, do you not have any blue books or something?â Kylo snapped, fingers drumming against the front desk impatiently as the skinny library assistant peered around at him. The hell was he looking at?Â
Part of the reason he was so irritated was because of his own negligenceâhe shouldâve written down the name of the stupid textbook, but it seemed so obvious at the time he thought he could just figure it out once he got here. Wasnât everything supposed to be divided by subject, anyway? He mightâve eventually simmered down enough to say what subject it was, and narrow down his options based on the level of the class, when the assistantâs comment had his lip curling into a snarl.Â
âOh, thatâs real fucking funny. Listen, if everyone who came here knew exactly what they were looking for and where to find it, your job wouldnât even exist. So help me, or find me someone else who will, before I lose my patience.âÂ
As the words spilled from the boyâs lips, Huxâs expression shifted from mildly inconvenienced to irate. Those sharp features pinched, and his lips drew into a thin line, waiting for Ben to finish. Once that was done, Hux chose to wait just a little longer, letting the silence draw out between them before giving Ben the satisfaction of a reply.Â
âAlright then, this way.â The library assistant was on his feet now, waving for the seething student to follow. One aisle was passed, and another, all while he seemed to be singularly focused on his path through the dim room.Â

âBlue.â He repeated incredulously from behind a computer monitor. Brendon now leaned to one side, wanting to get a look at the person whoâd approached his desk. A little tall to be a freshman, but Brendon wouldnât have discounted the notion.Â
This was his least favorite time of the year, when all the undergrads flocked to campus, their heads swimming with a thousand stupid questions that he really didnât have time for. Itâs one of the very reasons why he volunteered for the most out of the way information desk, where he could ideally work in peace on the brunt of the work heâd been given.Â
And yet someone always managed to run into his little corner of the building.Â
âBlue, of course. Do you think it might have pages, or maybe some letters on the inside?âÂ

âDonât you dare look at me like that! Donât you dare give me that stare.â
It was as if he didnât hear a single word thatâd slipped past Benâs lips; instead, Hux continued to stare at the man across the table, pointedly ignoring his dinner now.
âYou thought this was a date.â This was said matter of factly, the realization having already settled in - and Brendon didnât seem very enthused about it.

âI bet this room has heard some funny things.â
@blightinnocence:
kylo had fucked up. really, truly, and ROYALLY fucked up this time. how this girl had managed to destroy the starkiller base with just a defected soldier and a large wookie, he had ZERO CLUE. well, han was there too, but he often had underestimated his fatherâs intelligence. maybe it WAS his doing. his silenced thoughts of the deceased man with a HISS of his helmet coming off, setting the metal beside himself just in time to see a familiar pair of boots move slowly towards him. hux. he knew it would only get worse from hereâ heâd have to deal with the general AND snoke. surprisingly enough, kylo had never been okay with FAILING. his head hung low, nearly between his knees before  firm gloved fingers had his jaw in hand, forcing his head up.
                [ look me in the eye. now. ]
the generalâs voice sounded deathly close to a hiss, and if kylo wasnât so good at steeling his emotions, he would have started CRYING before the other. he was sure of it. exhausted brown eyes flicked upwards to meet huxâs gaze, and for the first time in a long time, fear laced within them. armitage was PISSED, clearly. the youngerâs face ached with the wound slashed across it as he could feel it pulsing- trying to heal itself from under the surface. if only he had his motherâ she could use the force to heal him and maybe he wouldnât feel so shitty.
                          âiâm sorry.â
that would never be good enough for the other but he had nothing else to say. the strong hand on his jaw and the angry eyesâ NO, it was the dull throbbing of pain earthing under his skin that was making it difficult to think. the general would never make him feel at a loss for words. he felt close to INSANITY that he would even think something like that. his eyes dropped down to those BOOTS again to focus himself on his words. he knew the general was not in any way, shape or form a remorseful or pitying man, but maybe the sight of his sawed open flesh would let him off the hook at least for NOW.
              âif you were to be so kind and let go of me                so i can go to the MEDBAY. please, general.â
 âYouâre sorry.â
The echo swam in venom, only working to affirm Kylo Renâs assumptions about how seriously Hux had taken the apology. He could see that the Knight was tired, but he had no pity for him. Exhaustion had already eaten away at his own, slackening those proud shoulders- and perhaps dampening his better judgement.
âCan you even begin to understand what your personal agenda has cost us?â He now spat that venom as a burst of words, and for once it was his anger that spilled over into rage. Blood, dried, flecked off against his glove as he tightened his grip on Renâs jaw, pulling his face closer. âThe time, the resources- we had them cornered and your thoughtless decisions robbed us of the chance to wipe out the Resistance for good!â
There would be a reckoning for this, and Armitage refused to find himself in the crosshairs when the time came. This boy needed to realize his own responsibility in the wake of Starkillerâs destruction.
@blightinnocence | from here
âi suppose i could say thank you, but iâd rather stay indifferent too.â pause. âare you secretly a droid? you are FAR too stiff all the time to be a real person, general.â heâs sleep deprived and not thinking about his words. (heâs got diarrhea of the mouth when exhausted.) tired eyes LIFT to meet the brighter hues, genuine curiosity filling them. now that heâs thinking about it, it definitely seems like a REAL possibility.
In Huxâs opinion, that boy should have kept his face behind a mask. Kylo Ren didnât know how to control the twist of his lips or the twitch of his eye, and it was these things that inevitably betrayed him. There had been a large amount of intimidation in a faceless presence that could sense your intentions, not that Hux would have ever admitted to the notion.
What a waste.
All of this rose to the surface of his thoughts as Ren looked at him like that. The General finished pouring himself a glass of amber liquor, not bothering to offer any to the newly anointed Supreme Leader.Â
âI think it does more to show how little you actually care for the military, and its behavior.âÂ
