“Just” is a little time-wise inaccurate.

Nipton was once a booming mining town. 

For many years, Nipton’s most successful business was a convenience store that sold lottery tickets to people visiting from Nevada.

1980′s- A Man bought the town on a whim and surprised his wife ($200k)

2016- The Man dies, his wife attempts to sell.

2017-  A marijuana-focused technology (penny stock) company and consultancy buys Nipton. The company reimagined the town (population: 20) as a marijuana production hub where visitors might tour farms, shop dispensaries, and stay at a “bud and breakfast” inn. They add yurts. ($5 million)

2018- The marijuana penny stock company sells to another penny stock (exploratory drilling) company. ($7.7 million- debt purchase and exploratory drilling stock)

2020- The weed resort company forecloses after being unable to finish payments.  Ownership goes back to the widow.

2021- The widow puts Nipton back on the market. Religious cults, cryptocurrency investors, “a crew that wanted to run a party train from Las Vegas, and ‘some people from Brazil, one of whom was a dentist” take interest ($2.75 million)

2022- A Las Vegas-based theater company with “unapologetically raunchy shows” buys it. ($2.5 million)

They start repairs. The yurts get taken down. They plan to make it a circus.
