Important Information about the Heliza Fic Exchange
The Heliza Fic Exchange is a challenge in which everyone who signs up will both write and receive a 1,000+ word fic centred on Henry and Eliza's relationship (be it romantic or platonic or something else-- eg. antagonistic-- as long as it's a relationship!)
Basically, you provide a minimum of four (4) fic ideas/prompts, and in turn, you will be assigned to write a 1,000+ word fanfic based on another participant's request.
-One sign-up per person, and you must have an AO3 account to participate. This exchange will be run on AO3-- all stories must be posted to the AO3 collection (but you may cross-post wherever you like, after reveals).
Sign-up opens: Mon 12 Jan 2015 5:00PM EST
Sign-up closes: Sat 17 Jan 2015 11:59PM EST
Assignments go out: Mon 19 Jan 2015
Posting deadline: Wed 11 Feb 2015 11:59PM EST
Stories (and author) reveals: Sat 14 Feb 2015 6:00PM EST

If you have any questions or problems, please contact [email protected], or message the official tumblr (if you need specific help, please send a non-anon ask): helizaficexchange.tumblr.com/ask
You must write a Heliza-focused story using one of your recipient's prompts and the length has to be 1,000 words or greater. The story must be completed and posted to the Exchange's AO3 collection by the posting deadline (please do not upload placeholders or works in progress!), and it should be free of obvious spelling and grammatical errors (ie. be sure to run spellcheck and/or get it beta-read by a friend beforehand).
You must provide a minimum of four (4) prompts for your writer, free of "presumed DNWs" (see FAQs for more info).
You are free to interpret the prompts loosely/creatively, as long as you do so in good faith. Please ensure that you avoid incorporating any triggers or subject matter specified by the recipient as upsetting.
No character bashing, please.
What's with the "Valentine's Day" theme for this round?
It's not really a theme-- it just happens to be name of this round because the timeline of this exchange (the story reveals) coincides with that date. You DO NOT have to prompt or write anything relating to Valentine's Day if you don't want to.
Is my recipient also my author?
It is unlikely that your recipient will also be your assigned author, although it is possible.
Please don't do anything that might reveal your identity to your recipient until Valentine's Day, after everyone has received their stories.
What am I committing to if I sign up?
By signing up, you commit to writing a 1,000 word (minimum) story for your recipient based on their prompts/requests. You must post the completed story to the collection before the posting deadline (11 Feb).
IMPORTANT: Please do not sign up unless you are confident you can meet the requirements of this exchange. This is a small fandom and we will end up with disappointed recipients if their authors have flaked out.
When signing up, you will provide information about what you are requesting to read and what you are offering to write. Please ensure that you read the instructions provided carefully when the time comes.
What if I can't finish my assignment? How do I drop out?
You will need to default. You can do this by going to (archiveofourown.org/users/YourUsername/assignments) and clicking on the "Default" option button. If you need to do this, please do so ASAP to allow us to find a pinch-hitter so that your recipient won't be left empty-handed!
Be aware that if your assigned author has defaulted too, your place on the pinch-hit list will simply be bumped down to a lower priority below the participants who have been defaulted on but have completed their assignments-- but there is still a good chance you will still receive a story.
However, if you don't default and instead just let the deadline pass without posting a story (or if you post a placeholder/obvious fake), you will be banned from future exchanges. Also, mutant ghost tiger sharks will tear your flesh asunder and devour you whole.
Can I include other characters (eg. Charmonique, Saperstein, Bryn) in my story?
Of course you may! But you must incorporate both Henry and Eliza, and the major focus of the story should be on their relationship.
Can I write Henry/Julia or Eliza/Freddy?
The main requirement of this exchange is a story focused on Heliza, so please employ some common sense and good judgment in deciding what is appropriate.
(For example, if the story briefly includes some Henry/Julia and Eliza/Freddy, with Henry and Eliza both pining for each other and endgame Heliza, you're probably fine. On the other hand, a story on Eliza/Freddy domestic fluff with only a couple of throwaway lines about Henry would very much be against the spirit of this exchange.)
Obviously things won't be so black and white-- if in doubt, please err on the side of caution-- you probably shouldn't unless your recipient has specifically stated that they're open to reading those pairings.
Also, no character bashing, please.
Do I really have to write the prompts my recipient requested?
Yes, provided that it's not a "presumed DNW". But you are free to interpret the prompts loosely/creatively, as long as you do so in good faith. Please ensure that you avoid incorporating any triggers or subject matter specified by the recipient as upsetting.
What are these "presumed DNWs"?
The following are automatically classified as universal "presumed Do Not Wants (DNWs)" for this exchange, for both readers and writers:
-Rape/non-con
-Major character death
-Self-harm
-Extreme depictions of violence, gore, torture
-Incest
-Underage sex
-Infidelity/cheating or abusive relationships
-Dubious consent
-BDSM and/or extreme sexual kinks (vore, watersports, scat, bloodplay etc)
If you want to read/write any of the above "presumed DNWs", you must say so specifically in your signup (if requesting, you must provide at least four prompts without a presumed DNW). If you offered to write a presumed DNW that your recipient has not indicated they want to read, you cannot include that in your story for them. On the other hand, if you requested a presumed DNW, bear in mind that your author is under zero obligation to write that presumed DNW.
