this is not intended to reach an audience of anyone but me and maybe one friend, but if it does here’s a quick rundown:

this is a blog purely for my oc universe hell-bent on heaven. because no-one wants to listen to me yap about it. hboh began as a hazbin hotel rewrite and spiralled out of control very quickly. it is barely recognisable as what it once was but the basic plot remains roughly the same. We follow Chaya Morningstar, the daughter of the devil himself, on her mission to save her people from eternal damnation (and maybe learn how to be human along the way). In all honesty I will probably post this and leave forever but just in case, welcome to my autism hellscape!! yay!!!

regarding the overlords!

an overlord is a class of demon, not a type like an imp or a sinner. any demon can become one, with the right amount of power. they’re somewhat of a cross between politicians and demigods. a city will often have its own local overlord, but there is a grand council of the overlords who are considered the strongest.

an overlord must have a theme. an idea behind their branding. this was not originally required in the early days of hell being liveable. it’s much easier to amass ungodly amounts of power when you focus entirely on one thing, and since hell is somewhat sentient, extremely fond of messing with people, and deeply enjoys patterns, demons without a clear idea of what their bit is will find themselves struggling to gain even scraps nowadays. this is why most overlords are incredibly dramatic and would probably thrive on the stage.

in exchange for having to commit to one bit for the rest of your life/your career as an overlord, you get certain bonuses in your field. abraham haywood (We’ll Get To Him One Day) (No We Won’t) makes the best goddamn drinks this side of. well. anywhere, really. and could tell you what’s in your glass at a glance. parzival gervase (not talking about him any time soon. he is being actively rewritten as we speak) can talk to rats and beetles and other horrible scuttling things. so that’s pretty cool I guess

I don’t know why this is mostly all in lowercase. I’m literally about to fall asleep. anyway. one more note. sometimes demons are not overlords but they are powerful enough to be. sometimes they’re more powerful than half the overlords. sometimes they don’t need to be overlords because their minion is one and they are themselves the former minion of another overlhey can anyone else smell meat. no? okay. cool. 🐇

I have no idea why I keep doing this. I don’t really even enjoy it and no-one else sees these. Anyway, villain time. This was not meant to be the next post but I didn’t really want to post anything so. we’re doing the one we’ve got art for. we’ll get back to the hotel staff one day. I accidentally deleted everything I wrote so now I have to rewrite it. Introducing the beautiful femme fatale, Rozalind Vazquez.

Rozalind is another favourite of mine so this may be extensive. This may need a TW? Nothing is in depth but mentioned suicide, drug abuse, child death, discrimination, and abuse.

Rozalind was born in 1942, Mexico City. Her childhood was mostly normal, until she was diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome (look it up) as a young teen. Due to the time period she was. not treated well. She grew up angry. Angry at the people who mocked her and the world that had made her that way. When she was in her 20s, an American man on a business trip began flirting with her. He was rich and handsome and promised to get her the best treatment money could buy. He was also several years older than her. They had a shotgun wedding and he took her home with him. She wanted a lover, he wanted the social clout that came with “rescuing this poor disabled woman and bringing her to the land of the free”. They had a child. Unfortunately. He was not a good man behind closed doors, and Rozalind couldn’t handle it all. She turned to smoking, and then to drugs. He never noticed. This went on until 1981. Their son took a fatal overdose from Rosalind’s stash. She snapped. She shot her husband and hung herself in their bedroom. No-one was ever sure, afterwards, if the child’s death had been accidental.

In hell, Rozalind mostly found work as a singer. Scraping by in back alley bars. But this was not the life (or death) she felt she deserved. Her fiery temper landed her in plenty of trouble, but it also caught the eye of another sinner. A powerful one, who was equally as angry at her circumstances. This was, obviously, Agatha Lemaire. She offered Rozalind the chance to become an overlord, if she’d help her take down the current ones. Rozalind took it. They befriended a new demon and as a trio they toppled hell’s power structure. Things, of course, went wrong. Horribly. Although she’s still a powerful overlord, and they managed to replace Agatha, she does wonder what happened to her.

Rozalind is hot-headed, callous, and arrogant. She values possessions and wealth over people, and power over everything. Deep down, she’s afraid to not be in control. She’s beloved by most of hell, and loathed by the rest. In the entertainment industry, she can make or break a sinner’s career. Almost all of hell’s best actors, singers, dancers, etc owe their success to her, and will happily promote whatever propaganda she needs. She works frequently with Mammon and Beelzebub, who also oversee entertainment. She’s also extremely shortsighted (literally, not like a personality trait) (she can’t see).

As a demon, Rozalind is approximately 8ft tall. As a human she was about 6’3. She has very long limbs. Her hair is actually dyed red, but after she died she’s never needed to redo it. She has eight eyes, but only two of them function like normal human eyes (barely). Her skin was light brown and is now pitch black, with red markings. the humble two posts in one day? waow. this one will be less detailed than the previous one because Antonio is not my favourite character and also I’m not doing allat again today (sorry king) [going back through cause I figured maybe TWs would be useful. Literally nothing is discussed for more than one sentence but TW drug abuse/overdosing]

Antonio de Angelis! Born in New Jersey [edit I think I was confusing him with another character but sure he’s from New Jersey now] in 1970 to his Italian mother and American father. He was the oldest of three siblings. He had a tumultuous career as an amateur porn actor and fell for the director of one of his shoots. Happens to the best of us. He got Antonio into harder stuff and eventually caused his death. An overdose in a shitty club bathroom in 1998. (Note: he did not go to Hell for doing porn he went to Hell for a multitude of minor sins that snowballed into enough to get him sent down.) Antonio honestly thrived in Hell. He found work in a bar as a singer, and he had real talent. He got good enough to be noticed by a very powerful demon. Rozalind Vazquez. She took him under her wing and gave him opportunities to become famous, but it came at a cost. He traded his soul for his name in shining lights and never looked back. Until now. With the offer of heaven so close, and yet so far out of reach. Until he owns his soul, he can never leave Hell. Due to the specific conditions of his deal, his soul belongs to Rozalind until she dies or it’s taken from her. This is foreshadowing. She doesn’t particularly care what he does with his life outside work, as long as he keeps bringing in cash and attention. They are both incredibly temperamental and have frequent screaming matches. Top ten healthy dynamics to have with your boss.

Antonio is loud, overdramatic, and enjoys having all eyes on him. He’s sarcastic and hates dealing with people’s emotions, including his own. Very much the diva stereotype. He’s not unkind, and does genuinely want to be better, he just doesn’t see a way out. His middle name is Maria and he occasionally goes by that. He likes cats, being complimented, motorbikes, and older men (me too)

oh god we’ve made it to the sinners. now I have to talk about even more backstory. fuuuuuuckkkkk

Agatha Lemaire was born in 1900 to Delaida Boudreaux and Achille Lemaire. She grew up in Louisiana, relatively near New Orleans, where she met her best friend (Miriam post one day. probably not soon). She was never very social, despite being incredibly charismatic when she did bother to talk. In 1918 her mother, one of the very few people in her life she genuinely adored, was diagnosed with tuberculosis and died the following year. Achille was never particularly good to them, but as Delaida died he got worse. Months before her mother died, Agatha committed her first murder. His body was never found and people assumed that he’d simply skipped town. After Delaida’s death, Agatha took over her job as a radio show host. It was never a particular passion of hers, but she felt that she had a duty to her family and it was a useful tool. During the years between 1919 and 1945 she killed approximately 70 people and ate their remains, reporting on her own crimes as she did so. Unfortunately for her, something took notice. An old and incredibly powerful demon, who had escaped into the mortal world decades ago and become attached to this newfangled concept of radio. Her murders and connection to his domain linked them, and he terrorised her for several years, wanting the soul of someone like that in his arsenal. He did not assess the level of danger he was in correctly. When traditional methods of dealing with her problems (gun) didn’t work, she turned to his origins. She made a sacrifice, contacted a demon, and made a deal. His life for hers. With the help of her friend on the other side, she killed the demon and took his power. Five years later, her most successful years of all time, her demon came to collect. She was shot three times by police officers, who had discovered the truth behind her crimes due to an anonymous witness.

Jesus Christ can you tell she’s my favourite. we’re not even done I’ll speedrun the rest of this. good lord.

She woke up in hell, lived with her demon benefactor for a while, technically earned her soul back by doing contract work but still works for the demon, met a cute spider girl, met a cute robot guy, dismantled hell’s ruling class (overlords) by killing all of them, had the worlds shittiest breakup because she wanted more power, disappeared for like a decade, and now she’s back to menace Chaya and her hotel. No-one likes her except Chaya. This is entirely reasonable because she is an awful person.

She’s very blunt (undiagnosed autism queen) and does not enjoy the presence of other people. She masks this distaste by being overly friendly in an uncomfortable and threatening way. In her defence everything she does comes off as threatening because she has killed So Many People. She’s insanely manipulative and could’ve easily worked her way up the system the traditional way (amassing souls and power until you can’t be ignored anymore and the cool kids let you hang out with them) but that’s not how she works. She prefers to go directly through the problem by massacring the people upholding the system she despises, now that she has the power to do that. She’s not completely cold hearted and does care for certain people (and her dog. she loved her dog. his name was Bullet and he is canonically in heaven do not fear) but most people could be burning in front of her and she wouldn’t stop to spit on them. Her ideal life is a quiet one in a nice rural area with no other people around for miles, similar to her home when she was alive. She likes dogs, good food, woodcarving, taxidermy, and being left the fuck alone. She does not swear in English, only in French, because it makes her less intimidating. She also doesn’t use modern slang (even though she knows it. against her will. Antonio keeps teaching her stupid shit he hears at work. six seven or whatever the kids like these days). She can also mimic voices perfectly which is pretty cool. It’s why sinners think she did her murders live on air. She did not. Can you imagine the cleanup?

erm appearance. I have art done by the ever talented @scoutkisser69 (thanks Cob) of her human form. Her original demon form is just that but she has bunny ears, small antlers, big yellow hare eyes, and multiple bleeding gunshot wounds (sinners keep their death wounds after they die. she is missing her left eye and has injuries to her right knee and the right side of her torso. yes I’m that specific leave me alone). Her second demon form (post god awful breakup she does a demonic ritual using the fear and blood of her closest friends to access more of the demon’s power. the first demon the one she killed. I really should’ve named him that would make this easier. the second one is called Josephine but we’ll get to her) is almost exactly identical but her head is now a deer skull. My cringefail edgelord Mary Sue 💕

(important weapons section because she loves her weapons. she has a shotgun (literally her baby), a knife made from bone and shed antlers, a pistol, and a small hatchet. you know. because one weapon just isn’t enough when you also have fucked up shadow powers. she’s so annoying god bless)

heaven doesn’t really have a whole lot that’s interesting about it I fear. the story spends minimal time there. it is pretty cool though they have literally everything you could want and always have. medieval priests could play umamusume if they wanted. which is awesome.

uhhh angels. angels have culture. that’s cool. music is very important to them! and all heaven-born angels wear masks. it separates them from the mortals and easily distinguishes them as people in positions of power, like a uniform. taking your mask off around someone is a big display of trust and vulnerability. not wearing a mask in formal situations is considered incredibly disrespectful.

There is literally no good term for the dead people in heaven. I refuse to use winners. They’re going to be referred to as souls. Souls who make it to heaven aren’t corrupted into new forms like the ones in hell. They do get the option to change their forms however they like though! All in all heaven is a pretty chill place! Although the leaders kinda suck and there is a woman sealed on an island somewhere but she’s technically between realities and we’ll address her later.

next post probably will be my favourite character ever. or it will be someone else. who knows. the plan is for it to be her though.

wakey wakey eggs and bakey it’s midnight so I’m back with another exciting post for my audience of none. Love you guys frfr.

Heaven and Hell lore (1/2, Hell)

Hell currently takes the form of an extremely large city. On the outskirts there are more rural areas, which are primarily Beelzebub’s domain. Most of the food gets produced here and distributed to everywhere else. The rest of the city is divided amongst the sins relatively equally. There are no real boundaries, but imps born within certain sectors will likely have different appearances. As an example, greed imps tend to be more draconic in appearance and favour green and gold skin, whilst lust imps are often more akin to mermaids, favouring shades of blue. I might do a full imp post later but imps aren’t particularly relevant yet.

Hell used to be a barren wasteland, filled with souls being tortured for eternity and occasionally massacred by angelic armies for training and intimidation purposes. To lighten the load and protect themselves, Lucifer and Lilith created a species of anthropomorphic bird demons to serve as soldiers and torturers. The burden still weighed heavy on the king, who wished his dearest creation, humanity, didn’t have to suffer like this. Instead of doing something productive about it, he sealed himself in his evil mind palace for a few hundred years. Eventually he was retrieved, given what amounts to an intervention by his subjects, and actually began the task of making Hell liveable, believing that he alone could do the impossible and redeem himself and his sinners. Lucifer lore post coming one day.

The aforementioned bird demons generally hold positions of power now. Most still work as guards or soldiers, wary against attacks from Above. They are immortal and nearly invulnerable which is cool. Also they are technically the demons represented in the Ars Goetia but I made them all birds because I’m autistic about birds. I don’t want to call them goetia because I’m also pedantic and that’s a type of magic not their name.

When you die and/or fall to Hell, you’re given a new form! Fun! Often this new form is animalistic, but not necessarily. It will always represent, usually mockingly, some part of your life. A feared serial killer who hunted their victims for sport may find themselves with a new pair of rabbit ears, for example. There is one character important to the story who did not change when he died, but we’ll get to him one day. Important note: sinners with bird forms ≠ the bird demons I mentioned. Sinners have more human features, generally more akin to depictions of harpies, whilst those demons are. and this is the best way to describe them. closer to fursuits. This reads as slightly shady I’m a furry (obviously) I just think it’s really funny.

guess who’s back. unfortunately for you, me!

Vegas, the brains and brawn of the hotel! A former angel, former drummer, and former soldier. Her life is defined majorly by what she once was. She was cast out of heaven for refusing to continue genocide against sinners after being shown proof that many wanted a better life. Half of her face was shattered by her ex girlfriend, driven to a rage by what she viewed as Vegas abandoning their cause. She was found by Lucifer, and became his right hand man. She was instrumental in shaping Hell into the city it is today. Her skill with mechanics and positive reputation among the older and more powerful sinners made her the perfect candidate for Lucifer’s pet project. All she had to do was help Chaya pretend to be human and keep her from learning what she truly was. Apparently it’s easier to lie to someone when you don’t have feelings for them. Who would’ve thought. Sarcasm. Her relationship track record is looking great. She’s now torn between her love and her duty, whilst trying to help stop a war and talk her girlfriend I mean platonic good Buddy out of harbouring Hell’s most dangerous warlord. I promise she gets a win in the end.

She is an incredibly kind person, despite her blunt nature and hostile attitude towards strangers. She genuinely wants this whole redemption thing to succeed, and will do whatever she needs to in order to make Chaya happy. She is very physically strong, talented with most weapons, and can take heavy hits, but doesn’t possess any specialised magic. She can use magic and rituals but it’s not a major part of her arsenal. She is also immune to most of the common ways to permanently kill demons, since she technically isn’t one. She still likes to make and listen to music, despite her experiences with her former band. She loves horror movies, her favourite drink is black coffee, and her favourite animal is the humble bunny 🐇

whilst I’m online, let’s meet our main character! Chaya Morningstar! My sweetheart my beloved my beautiful miserable girlfailure daughter.

Chaya is not and never has been a real person. She was created in 2023 by Lucifer in order to fulfil his mission of redeeming his people. She is unsettlingly upbeat, and completely focused on her goal above all else. Or at least, she should be. Because the longer she spends around her hotel staff and guests, the more human she seems to become. Her mechanic and closest (only) friend tries to keep her on track, but it’s incredibly difficult when they’re constantly derailed by various horrible threats and Chaya’s instinct to help others despite potential danger. She’s an extremely sweet and compassionate person, but has a bit of a “my way or the highway” approach to situations. Once she’s got an idea in her head it’s nearly impossible to shake her off it. She’s not intentionally malicious but she can be blunt and often inserts herself where she’s not wanted in order to help. She enjoys apple flavoured things, looking at pictures of the mortal world’s sky, and doing arts and crafts. She can speak every language, as can Lucifer, the rest of the sins, and most high ranking angels.

Chaya is 6’5, with green eyes and fluffy ginger hair. At the beginning of the story, she wears something akin to a hotel staff uniform (white blouse, red waistcoat, and matching trousers) in order to give the impression that she’s approachable and on the same level as her people. As she becomes more human, she adds her own flair to her outfits, eventually ditching the hotel attire for a pale green dress with a little apron (Alice in Wonderland style if you’ve seen the animated movie). She wears a lot of apple accessories. She is also not a stick figure. my girl has meat on her bones which is why hboh is completely distinct from its original inspiration (/j don’t jump me) (not really joking though tbh) (it’s just true) [edited again to add that her voice claim is Judy Garland in The Wizard Of Oz]
