I've written about [[the tragedy of being a muse]] with regards to Dream @gnfkitten but I deleted it because it seemed kind of much at the time. Having watched his face reveal video, I'd like to bring it back. From July 31st, 2022:
The most damning consequence of Dream’s behavior is that he is not just a platform and a gravity assist to other CCs--he’s a platform in of himself, and a resource accessible to casual fans and crazy stans and fanfiction writers and antis and pseudotruthers. I always thought the [[boundaries definition of truthing]] was a little weak but I’m only now deeply understanding that boundaries are the fundamental division between your audience treating you like a person, and your audience treating you like a free-range, renewable resource. Because it’s not a matter of who Dream is, but what he is.
The pragmatic side of me says that it's his decision to market himself as a public resource, and continue to do so for his 2+ years of explosive growth. The idealistic side of me can't help but wonder how much of that being-a-public-resource (musehood) was involuntary. Fame is dehumanizing, but who precisely dehumanizes? What protections are there to prevent celebrities and politicians and pop culture cornerstones from becoming living gods?
The face reveal is a return to form; a return to mundanity. So what if people start poking fun at his appearance? At least he's reliably mundane now.
